Welcome to the Chinese General Discussion! This is where we discuss everything related to the Chinese language, including, but not limited to:

-asking specific questions about Chinese vocabulary and grammar (people who can speak Chinese fluently can help answer others' questions)
-recommendations for Chinese dictionaries, websites, etc
-and everything else about the beautiful langauge of China! 3nodding

Please note that although speaking in Chinese is allowed here, it is not mandatory. Also, this thread is for Mandarin Chinese only. For Cantonese: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=2038922

sweatdrop No, but I know a -few- words of Hokkien. Oh, scrap that. I only know the few Hokkien swear words used frequently in my country...The true dialects are dying out in Singapore. sad

Once my grandparent's generation dies out, dialects will be quite...gone. Well, not really, but off topic. ;-_-

I speak a few words of Chinese.. but I'm not quite sure which dialect(s) they are as the bit of Chinese I've learned so far is the date which, if I'm not mistaken is written the same in every dialect. I can also count to ten in whichever dialect it is and say I love you (wo ai ni). biggrin
