"Here's a catus flower, I picked just for you."

User Image The gardens were rather famous in the area; they were large, cheap to visit and had a nice well thought out theme, 'Garden's of the world'. All in all Araran thought they were a nice place to take Rioge to visit. The Ashe needed to get used to humans, they were something that every fae had to deal with, and the gardens were a nice metaphorical ‘baby pool’ for meeting humans, Araran didn’t want to dump him in at the ‘deep end’ by heading straight into a busy town with him. The gardens had a relaxed atmosphere, little iron or steel that that Ashe could burn himself on, and it was a child friendly environment and if he somehow got lost he wouldn’t come to much harm.

”This place looks nice.” Rioge commented, pointing at the entrance to the gardens and smiling up at his father. Araran grinned back, he was wearing a little glamour; just enough to hide his fae features, like wings, and he’d done the same to Rioge, dimming the child’s blue hair to a human shade of brown. ”Yes, it is. But humans run it. So you have to be careful to not do anything that a human wouldn’t do. That means keep your glamour on and don’t use any glamour on other things. But apart from that you can have fun. I’ve heard they have all different types of garden’s here, even a desert one and a water one.” Rioge’s eye’s lit up at the mentioning of desert and water gardens. Although they didn’t know who exactly he’d been in his former life, despite his Dad’s frequent research trips in the library, yet they suspected that he had come from Egypt and had links with water and so naturally he was interested in such things.

”Come on! Let’s go in!” he squeaked excitedly, tugging on his dad’s hand and moving towards the entrance.

The day had started out fine enough, partially clouded blue sky with just enough sunlight to make it an enjoyable day. If they were lucky a stronger wind would start up and pull the clouds across the sky and make it a pure and simple blue. An excursion to 'Gardens of the world' had been planned last week, they were a nice enough place to visit and had ample enough things to do. Heck even if they got bored here there was always the observatory which was only a ten minute drive away and for the past week Shyer had stocked up on bread crumbs to feed to whatever wildlife they came across. Unfortunately this was where the problem had started.

"I was thinking more along the lines of birds. you know, ducks and such?" Shyer chuckled nervously, trying to look as dignified as one could while standing on top of a seat which had been provided for guest use.
Aelia and it looked up at her, only Aelia's face actually seemed to be piqued with genuine bewilderment.
"The last tourists we saw fed it all right."
"Don't care. It's HUGE!"

Aelia shrugged again, a gentle powder of dust falling off of her unconcealed wings and onto the ground. This had been another attraction of the gardens, not many people went there so it meant less questions about her charge's eerie skin tone and odd back appendages. Aelia continued to throw bread at the metre long lizard which their bread buffet had attracted. At first it had just been at the ducks in the pond, but the damn thing had showed up looking for a meal and followed them all the way to the try desert area. Needless to say, the thing had Shyer on edge and she had half a mind to grab Aelia ( who was still feeding it with as much fear as a normal person might show for a fly. That is to say, none. )and either scream or run away from it. Probably both.

With the last of the bread Aelia threw it at the hulking reptiles feet and watched it sniff then eat the slice. Now that Shyer thought about it, weren't lizards more carnivorous? Maybe. She didn't know. Well I hope it dies if bread is unhealthy...Shyer thought darkly to herself, cringing as the beast made a plodding step closer and eyeing Aelia as if she was a morsel of food herself.
"You wanna step back sweetie. It still looks hungry..."
Aelia pondered this for a moment, watching the lizard lick it's mouth with an overly lounge tongue before retreating back to sit on the park bench with Shyer.

"I think it might go away if it realises we don't have any food left" She said in an indifferent tone, it was hard to tell if she actually knew what she was on about or not.
"Really? Some magical Ashe ability that allows you to know what over the top large reptiles are thinking?" She was only slightly aware of just how odd and unbelievable that phrase sounded. Sure made perfect sense to her though, life sure did change when you awakened to the possibility of things other than humans living out there.
"No, just a hunch."
She shuddered, taking a tiny step back so that the heels of her feet were against the back of the bench and ignored the little video replay in her head of every lizard vs. prey takedown she'd seen on discovery channel.

User ImageAraran winced as he was asked for the entrance fare… He didn’t have any human money at all; he’d wanted to do everything ‘normal’ today, but already there was a hiccup. He sighed and dipped his hands into his trouser pockets, they were under glamour to appear like jeans rather than the handmade faerie pants that he was really wearing, and whilst his hand was out of view he created a bundle of human notes. Rioge saw this happening and his eyes went wide, staring accusingly at his father as he gave the human at the till the fake money. When they were out of earshot Rioge crossed his arms disapprovingly, ”Won’t he get in trouble for that, and it’ll disappear soon… I thought we were meant to be doing things the human way today?” Araran sighed and nodded his head, ”I know, I know. I didn’t want to do it… But we want to go in don’t we? So don’t complain…” He replied half-heartedly, trying to defend himself from the child’s accusing stare. Rioge bit his lip; he supposed that it was ok if you put it like that.. He did really want to go in and see the gardens.

Glad that the child’s accusations had stopped Araran examined the map in the leaflet that the man on the till had given him. Apparently there was a small duck pond ahead of them, he glanced up and sure enough there it was, and beyond that was the first ‘world garden’, the desert garden. He mentioned this to the Ashe an barely had time to blink before Rioge was running off ahead, ignoring the ducks, who were startled into a chorus of loud quacks, and straight into the desert house. ”W-wait up!” Araran called after him, just about seeing the child vanish into the large glasshouse that contained the desert garden. ”He’s so eager…” he mumbled, following in the tracks of Rioge.

The heat was the most obvious thing that surprised Rioge; inside the glasshouse it was a lot hotter than it was outside… He’d known that deserts were hot but he hadn’t expected that the humans would be able to make a normal place like this the right temperature; they didn’t have any magic so how did they do it? Intrigued he wandered further into the garden, examining the plants on either side of the path. There were some interesting spiky plants… They must be the cacti that his father had told him about; they lived in hot deserts and if you cut them open you could get a drink. He’d have to try that at some point, although he’d have to get past their needles first. Rioge was also pleasantly surprised to see that there were living animals inside the garden. A tortoise was slowly making its way across the path. He crouched down and picked it up, moving it to the other side, saving it the journey. ”There you go.”

The lizard flared it's tongue out, tasting the air for...whatever lizards taste for. It continued glaring at the pair, human and fae, for a long while. It made out that one of them was obviously of no threat and the other was...just passing by. Its head twisted to the side, examining the less interested one with an odd skin tone. Giving a final sniff/lick to the air it started off towards a different precinct of the gardens where more humans would be willing to give it some of their lunch.

Shyer's face relaxed into a relieved smile, taking a step down from her sanctuary, also know as park bench, and watched the 'monster' shift its weight from one foot to the next as it walked off. Good riddance.
She turned around, pulled at the hem of the skirt she was wear since it had gotten caught on the arm rest and stared at Aelia with a raised eyebrow.
"Making friends I see..."
Aelia smiled that irritating 'you'll get it one day' smile and started walking along the track without so much as uttering another word.

She doesn't have to be so smug, So I freak a bit over large reptiles and she's miss 'one with nature...'Shyer muttered, jogging two strides to catch up to Aelia who had stopped to read the scientific name of some plant or other.
"Fen...estrar..ia Riyo...Rahay, how in hel-, I mean the world, do you say that!?
"You can also call it baby toes." Aelia chipped in, reading further down the plaque which stated the name.
They both fell silent for a time, Aelia reading the notes about the plant and Shyer waiting for her to finish.
"Says here it's mostly buried under sand..." She muttered allowed for lack of anything better to do. Looked like shrek ears to her.

Damn it was hot in here, although it was the desert area after all, still! Why wasn’t there some kind of drink vendor? Briefly Shyer recalled seeing an overpriced stand near the main entrance. $5 for a lousy water, no way was she going to pay that at the time, now however…
“-not sure though”
Snapping Shyer out of her reprieve, it came as a shock to see Aelia’s eyes as wide as dinner plates and aiming misdirected glances at anyone within a see able distance., very little made the ashe on edge so when Shyer saw her becoming slightly distracted she assumed that something wasn’t 100% right in the world that day. Or at least as right as it should be when the child you’ve taken in is part fae.

“Did something bite you?” She asked, hoping it wasn’t going to be anything overly dramatic. They had come here just for Aelia to feel more at home, she’d even had to organise a babysitter for Orianne so that the two could get away together for a short while. Aelia was now moving onto the next plant, either simply to distract herself or simply to see further shyer couldn’t tell.
I think…I think someone of interest is here. Well not here.” At this Aelia made a gentle arch with her hand to indicate the gardens. “Maybe…within a large radius. I’m not sure.” She recapped for Shyer’s sake. She’d noticed lately that her guardian was not always the most attentive listener, even if it did come to important matters.

Shyer raised her hand to hide a grin and turned her giggle into a cough.
“Well there are lots of people of interest here. There’s the person who has to name all these plants and study them, the people who come here from other countries are of interest, there’s even a bonsai expert somewhere in the Japanese layout area if I remember correctly. Nothing too distressing then, Aelia was just becoming aware that she wasn’t going to be the only person in tune with nature in such a large compound as the garden’s of the world. This answer didn’t seem to satisfy Aelia though who still decided it would be better to continue counting heads before giving up and moving five paces foreword to observe a a turtle shuffle forwards leaving odd tracks in the sandy environment.

User Image Rioge grinned and rubbed the creature’s shell, flaking bits of dirt off it so it was nice and shiny. He giggled as the tortoise marched determinedly towards a nearby tuft of thin desert grass. ”Your hungry?” Rioge asked, quickly grabbing a clump of the grass and pulling it out of the ground. The tortoise stared at the clump of food that had been suddenly dumped in front of it, it had thought that the food was a further away, then opened it’s beak-like mouth and ate it. Food was food after all. Rioge laughed and grabbed another, larger, clump this time and put it infront of the tortoise. ”There you go, you won’t have to walk for it now.” Araran, who’d now caught up with his run away child, peered over Rioge’s shoulder at the animal he was feeding; he knew it was a some sort of reptile but had personally never seen one in his life, faeries didn’t have zoos so he only knew about animals local to the area.

”That’s interesting. Do you know what it is?” He asked, crouching down next to Rioge and examining the tortoise. Rioge shrugged, ”I dunno… But it likes this grass and has a nice shell. Maybe there will be some stuff about it somewhere? On a sign or something?” He suggested; on the way in he’d noticed a sign talking about some plants.. He hadn’t stopped to read it but he assumed that this creature would have a sign about it somewhere too. He stood up an glanced around, there were hardly any people in the desert area; probably due to the slightly unpleasant heat, only himself and his father along with another two people were actually inside the giant glasshouse. He wondered if the other people would know what the creature was.

Picking up the tortoise, half way through munching on the food, he darted off down the path towards the other people, intending to ask them what the tortoise was. He was panting slightly when he reached them, holding out the tortoise. ”What, is, this.” He panted, looking at them waiting for an answer. He blinked a couple of times as he took it what he was seeing. ”Oh… You have wings.” He noted, pointing at the girls wings with a quizzical look in his eyes… Was it possible that she was, like his father, a faerie? But he would have known if there were other faerie children… His father would’ve found them for him so he could play with them.

Aelia's leaned down, trailing her finger along the sand and writing out the human characters that made up her name. The name Shyer had given her, it meant something in some other tongue but apparently Shyer couldn't remember just what. She wiped her pale blue hand over the dust to clear her makeshift writing bored and drew a smiling face into the surface only to frown down at the badly curved line and wipe it away once more.

"-otanist, landscaper, astrologist down the road, I think maybe a marine something or other if they still have the marine life here. A gardener for sure, maybe an animal expert or someone who looks after them if any get hurt..." Shyer continued to prattle on about the different 'people of interest', taking a shine to her topic and clearly not deterred by the Aelia's indifference to the subject matter. It seemed like as fine a topic as any to fill the silence that often accompanied Shyer and Aelia's trips to wherever they headed. It wasn't something that Shyer liked at all though.

She knew Aelia needed someone to talk to, but that person never seemed to be Shyer and when at home Aelia liked to just sit outside and stare absent minded at different things. It was kind of a lonely feeling to feel so unwanted by something she had come to house, feed and care for. Was the world really so wonderful a place to look at? Once upon a time Shyer had tried to involve herself with Aelia's home activities more but starring at a flower and trying to look at the various shades of colour, positioning and such hadn't proved as fascinating at Aelia made it out to be. It wasn't even the flower Aelia had said once, it was just how it was rather than how it worked and looked. to this Shyer had simply said 'oh' continued staring for another three minutes and then walked off feeling even more unnerved. A sigh escaped her lips as she once more noticed how unreachable her charge seemed to be getting when a young brunette came bounding up, all enthusiasm and energy, and held out either turtle or a tortoise asking what is was. What, had this kid never watched sesame street or something?

"Erm, I think it's a turtle, could be a tortoise though..." She said, startled into a reply and taking a step back from the hard shelled amphibian. Or was it reptile? Crap, as if watching 'Over the hedge' hadn't repeatedly clarified the difference to an annoying extent.

The glamour over the young boy had faded from Aelia's vision almost as soon as she'd looked up to see him. Vibrant blue hair and the prettiest coloured eyes she'd seen looked back it her quizzically, a smile reaching up to the tips of his cheeks. Glamour she mused, she'd only met two other people whom could do that and both had been of a fae descent. Was it possible....She grew silent, averting her gaze once more from blue-boy.
Shyer of course, was as ignorantly unobservant as she always was, a trait yet to be determined as an annoyance or a wonder.

"Oh yeah, her aunt made it for a birthday like...last August. She L-O-V-E 's that costume." Shyer added quickly, taking the question as any mortal would, with blind determination to stop people asking question they would be better off not knowing the answer to.
"I think if you walk back to the beginning there's a sign or something that tells you all the different animals you might find in here. It would tell you the difference." she continued on, gesturing back towards the way the boy had come from and for the first time noticed another figure a bit further away. Oh guess the kid's dad hadn't watched much tv either than...that or he simply hadn't been observant enough to notice the sign at the gate to the enclosure.

User ImageRioge seemed to totally blank out the other adult, his interest was settled firmly on the non-mortal girl. The answer to his question about the girl’s wings was obviously false, he doubted that any mortal could make such realistic wings and anyway he sensed a small flicker of magic within them, proving that the girl was indeed of fae origins. (Most likely to aid the young Ashe in flight.) He’d never met many fae, his father was very protective of him, let alone another possible Ashe, and that made her a lot more interesting than the waffling mortal. In fact Rioge pondered why the girl was with a mortal at all. He tried to come up with a couple plausible reasons in his mind, the most probable one being that she’d got the mortal under a spell or enchantment and was using her as a servant of some sort but still he doubted it, and hoped, that she couldn’t do such complex magic at such a young age; He’d only just learnt how to use glamour after all and he doubted that even his dad, a full-grown fae, wouldn’t be able to easily enchant mortals.

”Why don’t you glamour your wings?” he asked, gesturing to the mortal and the surrounding area. ”It’s not clever to show off your wings to humans, they’ll suspect your different..” As if to prove a point Rioge strengthened his glamour, adding another layer of illusion to the brown hair that concealed his natural colour. As the young Ashe was doing this Araran caught up again, he just caught the information on the creature, a tortoise, and smiled warmly at the woman. ”Thank you. We’ll go look at that sign in a moment. And those wings sure are realistic. Do you have any idea how her aunt made them?” Araran raised an eyebrow and loosened the glamour on his own glamour just enough for the ashe girl to see them but for the mortal to still stay oblivious.

He was actually rather cautious abut the situation, even though he currently had in under control. The child had to be an Ashe; there were no young fae in either court and so the child must be an Ashe. However that also meant that she was part of the Seelie court, the only other Unseelie Ashe was still an egg as far as he was aware. If something happened to the other Ashe, she got caught by regular mortals or was injured in some way, he could easily have the blame pinned on him due to the fact he, an Unseelie, was the only other faerie there at the time. It was also worrying that the Ashe, the future of the faerie race, had been entrusted to a mortal.. He knew that some mortals could be trusted but still, humans were the main reason why the whole planet was falling into chaos.
PostPosted: Sat May 10, 2008 4:31 am

It seemed perfectly normal for the young child to stare so openly at the young ashe's wings, they where of course in plain view for the world to see and she had not made any distinguishing gesture to ask him not to mention them. Regardless Aelia found it a little rude that this would be the first thing the first Ashe she'd ever met besides Marzipan would notice about her and they were the first things of which to her he spoke. If he could so clearly see the wings, did he not suppose she could as well?
she'd somewhat hoped her silent disregard of him would give a hint that he should say no more on the subject, but such subtle hints were not to be taken by the younger Ashe (well she was older by a few months! ), if that was what he was. He might be a rare fae child...maybe. Still, her curiosity was much more compelling and she did chance to throw him amother look so as to observe him some more. He at least could make a glamour, and this was a skill she had yet to master herself so it was possible he might have more knowledge she could gain.

Shyer became a little more ticked off to be ignored by a four year old, she had been trying to help him after all. She placed her hands on her hips, a scowl of slight dissapproval masking her features. A not so lucky thing since the young lad's father came running to catch up but moment later. Far be it from her to critisize another's parental issues and she dropped the idea of reprimanding the kid altogether. Besides, she had a bigger question to try and lie about answer now anyways.
"Oh..."
She said, a little unsure how to go on. She hadn't exactly aced home ec. in school and the concept of sewing with anything but a needle and thread in the classic 'in out' fashion was completely foreign.
"Erm, thanks. Well you know, a little this and that. A bit o' TLC and glitter paint and TA DA! hey presto, la fairy wings!"She laughed, it didn't even sound nervous either! Probabbly because she was actually laughing at what she'd said. glitter paint and TLC equals realistic fairy wings? What a laugh, still...maybe he'd buy it.

"...I can't hold a glamour."
Aelia admitted at last, turning to look at the new fae, yes it was definitly fae, who had approached. It it hadn't been the little one she was sensing it was definitly this one which had caught her attention. his glamour shifted, it was like watching rain run dwn a pain of glance and she marvelled for a minute at how smooth the transition had been. It was...one of the most unique fae appearances she'd seen so, although he was the second unseelie she'd had the pleasure to meet. Still, he seemed a little shifty on the whole and she wondered if it was simply because of her or the fact that the mortal he was speaking to seemed so oblivious to the situation at hand.

User ImageRioge smiled happily at the other child; he’d pretty much mastered holding glamour now after a lot of practice and he didn’t have to think very hard about sustaining it as it kind of stuck to him without him needing to do much consciously. He was mildly surprised that the other child couldn’t use glamour, she looked a little older than himself and he’d assumed that most faerie children learnt quite quickly as it was an important skill. It was a hard thing for him to explain as he’d personally learnt off his father, who’d been able to explain and show him the processes first hand. He’d happily do that now for the girl but he was nervous due to the fact that there was a mortal present and it could expose her to the truth about fae if she saw him using glamour. However that was another strange thing… Surely the other child would be able to hold glamour if she enchant a human into her service, so maybe the human wasn’t enchanted. But that left him wondering why on earth she was with a human. He was tempted to ask but didn’t encase it somehow got him or the girl into trouble. It was best to leave his dad, Araran, to deal with touchy business like that. In the mean time he should at least try to explain using glamour.

”It is kinda hard. Bust once you get the hang of it… It’s easy.” He stated, remembering his first attempts at glamour and how much he’d struggled to do it correctly... He knelt down and picked up a small rock and showed it to the other child. He intended to try and teach her the basics of glamour by making the colour change, one of the most basic illusions. He turned his back to the adults so he shielded the rock from their view and began to explain. ”You think about what you want to do and focous on it.” Thinking of the rock becoming a deep blue colour as he spoke he worked his magic as he’d done many times before as he’d practiced with Araran. The rock shimmered as the glamour took effect. Rioge beamed and passed the glamoured rock to the girl, pressing it into her hand. ”Now you try.”

He paused after giving her the rock as he realised he hadn’t introduced himself.. ”Oh, my name is Rioge by the way. What’s your name?”

Araran nodded, feigning interest in the mortal’s story about the wings and how they were made. ”Her aunt certainly has talent as a seamstress. I think Rioge would like a pair of wings too.. He likes to pretend he’s a fairy you see.” Araran was pushing it slightly now, hinting to the woman about faeries, hoping that she’d react to it so he could acquire more information about the mystery child.
PostPosted: Sat May 17, 2008 4:10 am

Taking the rock from the tanned hand of the blue haired Ashe Aelia focused on matching the shade of blue which he had made the rock appear. The result was minimal, the rock seemed to become slightly more of a grey-blue, but that was the total of her effort. A sad finish given that she'd practically had to screw up her entire face to make it do just that. The illusion even faded after a few seconds just to be even more pathetic.
Blushing slightly with her belittling effort she let the stone dropped and tried to look indifferent to the fact that she could not pull off such an easy task.
"Aelia"
She said back, hoping for a change of topic off of her own inept abilities.

By this time Shyer was just a little unnerved by the guy who kept pushing on the subject of the wings. What did he want to buy a pair or something?
"Yes well, she practices alot." Shye added, unable to hide a crack in her voice at how uncomfortable she was with the topic.
"Oh well, I don't know if she'd so them for non-family members.." Shyer bit her lip, eyes averting to the two children who seemed to be getting along alot better. Why where they holding a rock though?
"Your child has very lovely brown hair by the way. Adorable really."
She stated, opting for changing the conversation herself.

User ImageRioge winced as Aelia failed at creating a good glamour. It must be hard for her to see himself, a younger Ashe, doing so much better at something that all Ashe or faeries should be good at. He decided to change the subject to avoid further embarrassment – ”Do you want to go find some more tortoises?” he asked, not only because he hoped looking for the animals would distract her but also because he was keen to get another look at the unusual shelled animals, they didn’t have anything similar around where Araran and himself generally frequented, it was more just boring woodland animals like squirrels and the occasional deer.

A faint smile played over Araran’s lips. The mortal really did seem clueless, the Seelies seemed to have made a wrong decision with choosing her to guard their precious Ashe, she wasn’t aware even the slightest that he and Rioge were not mortals like herself and if he’d wanted to he could’ve swiftly kidnapped the other child, however he wouldn’t. His queen hadn’t ordered it and there was a firm truce between the two courts at the moment and acts of stupidity and rashness that would weaken that truce would not be looked upon favourably.

”It is isn’t it. He loves it a lot, his hair is his pride and joy.” he replied; wondering if he should tell the mortal that he was a fae. Then again even if he did that she’d demand proof – mortals, especially seemingly rather stupid ones, took a lot to persuade but he couldn’t drop his glamour that easily. His wings would give him away to any passer by that happened to spot him.

Thankful for the change of topic Aelia scanned the scenery for the aforementioned animal, it was far more easier than lamenting over her own inept abilities. She surmised that the tortoise he had original asked about could not be much far off but there was very little to be observed in something already seen she was came to another conclusion that he meant instead to look for another, different tortoise. But as the landscape seemed to be barren of the hard-backed animals she didn't know where to start looking.
"But...maybe they don't want to be found." She answered back readily, thinking that their lack of visible numbers might be caused by the desire to remain unseen to everyone else.

Shyer became even more nervus then before, the smile playing on this stranger's lips was not one she found particularly reassuring. In fact, it almost seemed like he was smiling at her as if she were an ignorant child who knew nothing of the world. Hey she was young, but she wasn't THAT young!

"Well he must get the lustre and shine from his dad." She said, adding a characteristic laugh to imply that no offence was meant. Now that the subject of wings was dropped she found it more easer to be at ease. There's allot to say about lying and one of the big thins about it was how much it stressed out Shyer. No wait, they wasn't exactly true. She'd lied tons during high school, and not just about undone homework. She supposed that what she had really been worried about was that she'd been blatantly trying to persuade something that was real and starring them in the face. She'd have had the same success rate if she's tried saying the sky was indigo and not blue.

'Not quite the same success rate', she checked herself. This little lie had paid off with the gentleman saying no more on it...hopefully. Score one for believable lying and 0 to the reality of things.

User Image Rioge also gazed around for the shelled creatures; there were plenty of cacti and small desert flowers and tufts of hardy desert grass, but alas, no tortoises. He considered the girl's comment, "yeeeah... Maybe they're hiding.." he mused, moving forwards towards a large rock as he spoke, "maybe they want to play a game? Hide and seek?" He exclaimed, reaching the rock and sinking to his knees. Scrabbling at the loose sand he easily made a small hole at the bottom of the rock. He peered inside, expecting to see a scaled face looking back out at him, but unsurprisingly the crevice was empty.

He slumped, disappointed that he hadn't found one of the intriguing creatures. Sighing he stood up again, looking to the girl before gesturing to the surrounding area - "Any ideas where they could be hiding?" he queried, squinting at some cacti, pondering if the creatures could be hiding behind them.

The girl's comment amused Araran; she seemed to think he was Rioge's father. It was understandable, many mortal children went on day trips with their parents and it was understandable that she would assume he was the father of the child. But she didn't know that it was near impossible that Rioge was at all related to him. They didn't know who's ashes he had been born from but Araran was sad to say that he doubted he had any blood connection with his charge... He was a wood fae and he suspected that Rioge was a lake or river fae as he had a strong affiliation with water.

He ran a hand through his own tufty brown hair. "No.. He couldn't have gained his hair from me... I'm not his blood parent you see.." he explained.. He smiled again and motioned towards the woman's Ashe. "Your daughter certainly takes after you though." He lied, one would have to be colour blind to say the soft blonde and vibrant red-head looked a like, but he wondered if she would correct him like he had corrected her.

Aelia was unsure what to make of the little fae boy, he seemed a pleasant sort but …she couldn’t place something on him describe what exactly she thought of him yet. Either way she decided that a rather indifferent attitude was best suited for observing him and making out his character. If she ever saw him again she’d most likely think his company more of a perk than something actually required. ‘Enough of over thinking’ her thoughts snapped back in protest, forcing her to dwell on the present.
“Maybe”
she said, coking her head to the side as if changing the view of the landscape would make them become visible.

Instead of searching though she found merely following and eyeing the landscape more to her taste. The dry landscape, while pretty, was not her favourite place after all and she hoped to move on soon when Shyer finished talking to the guardian of Rioge. She shook her head in reply to his question.
“Maybe Shyer would know...Or you could look at the sign she was talking about….“ She bit her lip, thinking before adding “You have pretty hair. It‘s blue” on the end.
She found herself quite impressed by the vibrant shade after looking at the back of his head while he checked under rocks and between crevices.

Shyer awaited her answer, awkwardness settling in place she realised her mistake. Oh right, not his son. Damn it, wrong assumption. As they say ‘assume makes an a** out of u and me.
Oh…sorry, I-I just thought that because y’know you were out and all and he does kinda look like…”
She trailed off, eyes flicking between the older man and the boy, retracting any similarities she’d seen between them. Then it tweaked…blood parent? That was a strange phrase to use in this day and age.
“Oh, wait so you do look after him right? Parent but not related…right?”
She liked that opening, it gave her more ease to answer his next question since it was much the same situation.

“I’m not exactly her blood parent either…not sure what I am exactly to her. I like to think we’re good though.”
Shyer started, not bothering to point out the obvious differences between them, Shyer also felt far too young to be anyone’s mother. She was unsure though if she’d said to much. While she regarded herself as Aelia’s given parent for the moment the girl had yet to show a lot of fondness. There was a…dutifull attachment. To Shyer it often seemed like the girl wouldn’t care if it had been Shyer or the next bystander to take her home.

User ImageThe girl seemed to be a fountain of knowledge, first she had suggested that the tortoises were hidden and then she had suggested that they should look at the sign! Both intelligent ideas that Rioge doubted he would've thought of himself. Nodding entusiaticly he took Aelia's hand and marched off in the direction of the sign taking his new-found clever friend with him.

As they moved he flicked his hair slightly, letting it shine in the (artificial) light. "Thank you. Though daddy says I have to keep it glamoured around mortals like your mummy incase they guess I'm not human." He explained, running his spare hand through his locks of hair, the glamour shimmering in and out of focus to his eyes - though it would still be concealing to mortals.

When they reached the sign Rioge stood on tiptoes, peering at the information. One half of the sign was dedicated to explaining the various interests within the current garden, whilst the other half was a map. He grinned and pointed at the picture of a tortoise on the information. He couldn't read the tiny writing nearby and so turned his attention to the map.. maybe there were some other cool places.

He stuck his tongue out in concentration as he examined the map, trailing his finger over the pictures of the gardens. They were currently in the desert garden... And if they went north they would reach the Japanese Water Garden, but if they went west they would reach the English Rose garden. He frowned... He wanted to go to the Japanese garden - it had water there and so he was instantly attracted - but then again, it had been Aelia's idea to look at the sign... So perhaps she should pick.

"Do you want to go to another garden? We've seen all of this one."

Araran mused over the woman's question... Thinking of the best way to answer. "I'd say... His guardian would be the best way to describe our relationship."
