This particularly thick stand of spruces offer a lot of protection from both wind and rain for Sentinels perching close to the trunk of one of the spruces in the middle.

Odd Winter pressed himself tightly to the thick trunk of the most central spruce in the stand. His pale eyes were sealed tightly closed and his wings were pressed firmly to his sides. Any sign of a storm was bothersome for the aberrant male, what with his poor vision.

Fortunately his Moth led him here. He trusted her senses completely, while others might look down on placing so much trust in a companion. They worked as one unit, which could only be compared to a blind human and a seeing eye dog, save for the fact that Odd could see, only with limits, and that he could communicate with his seeing eye chirop.

His unmarred white feathers stood out plainly in the foreboding night and even in the thick spruces, he was hardly camouflaged.

"Fine night for a mess..." He muttered quietly to the little female chirop, who stood out just as much as he did. The rumble of the dark, cloud filled sky sank his heart. If anything happened to his lot of chirops, he would not know how to handle it.

"Hopefully Beetle, Worm, and the rest of the stock have common sense enough to stay in the oak."

"Right, yes. Should. Should. Smart, they are." Moth tried to console her worried owner and he took some comfort in her soft and meek voice.

Alethia had one foot curled, perhaps too tightly, around Zekdek as she flew. The mus simply curled smaller, too afraid of the roaring of the storm to protest, too trusting of his master to fear that she might actually pierce him with a talon.

She'd seen this stand of trees before and was thankful, now, that the wind had battered her this way. This would be a good place to hide and wait a while. Until the storm blew itself out, at least.

The flash of white between the branches, though, had her doubting her choice even as she made her way to a likely-looking branch. Don't be silly, she chided herself. Not even the Spectres would dare a night like tonight to be out and about.

So land she did and balanced for a moment while she uncurled her toes and Zekdek crept forth, gave himself a good shake, and set about grooming down his fur again. "Good place, safe place," the little mus opined.

"Yes," Alethia agreed, though her attention was still on the white-feathered figure. "Let's hope so. I don't think I've got it in me to find another."

Odd Winter shifted worriedly from paw to paw and continued to press himself against the trunk. Over the winds, he thought he heard a voice. He could of possibly seen Alethia if she were moving, but he could not find the source of the mysterious voice.

"Hello?"

He called over the winds that were ever increasing. Heavy drops were starting to fall from the darkened sky and he was adamant about not moving from his safe haven.

Well, there was no point in being rude. And if he'd been a Spectre, he certainly would have attacked rather than saying hello. So she turned toward the white Sentinel and took another breath to make her voice carry. "Hello! It's quite a storm, isn't it? I hope you don't mind if we shelter here a while. I don't think it's safe to be in the air just now."

"Oh, I don't mind at all!" The white sentinel called back. He had to fight against the wind with his soft voice to make it heard. Using such volume felt unnatural to the meek aberrant. "Hopefully it will not last long, but it seems it will be a while!"

The wind through the trees made it hard for Alethia to hear the male. She glanced down at her shivering companion and said, "Come, Zekdek," then shifted closer to one end of her branch. Closer to where Odd sat. "Long enough for introductions, at least," she offered, keeping one eye on the mus creeping along with her. "I'm Alethia, one of the teachers in the forest."

"Coming nearer..." Moth whispered to Odd from her spot on his head. She scrambled down his side and onto the branch, but as close to Odd as possible. "Move down out slow." She told him from her spot on his paws. He did as instructed, though loathed to leave his spot against the trunk.

He inched along the limb until he felt he could go no further. "Odd Winter, miss Alethia. I am a keeper of chirops."

A dark, wet figure swept in between the spruces and landed heavily on the very spot that Odd had just vacated. Shaking the water off of his feathers, Drywood - rather winded after his uncomfortable flight - hooted softly to himself and gave his own plumage a quick preen before he glanced up at the other two sentinels.

"I say," he exclaimed cheerfully, smiling at the albino, "It's a good thing you are so bright, sir! I was almost about to despair of finding a decent shelter when I spotted you!" Without waiting for a reply the stripe-faced aberrant peeked around Odd's pale form and nodded at Alethia. "Well met, Madam! What horrible weather we're having, eh?"

An interesting name to match a unique Sentinel. She bobbed her head. "Odd Winter. Yes, I see your companion, there." Just as eerily white. "I'm pleased to meet--" She stopped when Drywood swept in. She shifted a bit on her branch. Zekdek crowded closer to her leg. "Indeed it is," she answered. "Terrible weather, but I think we'll be all right here."

Odd had been too busy trying to focus on Alethia to notice Drywood's sudden entrance beside him. It startled him and his already damp white feathers flattened. He quickly found himself and chuckled quietly before speaking over the winds. "Glad to be of some assistance, wouldn't want any poor sentinels stuck out there, especially in this weather..."

Drywood bobbed his head in agreement. "Indeed, indeed. And speaking of the weather, why are we sitting so far apart? I have a feeling that we've only seen the beginning of this storm, so far, and suspect it might get quite a bit colder than this. What say you we all move a little bit closer, just in case?"

Almost as if to emphasise his sentiment, a shiver ran through the brown aberrant's smallish frame, but by the way he kept the smile on his beak it almost seemed as if he didn't notice it, himself.

Alethia looked surprised. Was surprised, actually. "I hadn't thought of that," she admitted. "It's not a bad idea, though. Come on, Zekdek," she instructed her companion. "Climb up. We're moving." When he had, she made the move, transferring over to Odd's branch. She didn't want to crowd him, but there needed to be room for Drywood as well. "There. There, I think there's room for all of us."

"Truly a wise idea, sir." Odd acknowledged Drywood's proposal with a nod. His feathers ruffled in the wind and he felt a chill. He was protected by a thick layer of down, as Mist sentinels were, but that did not change the fact that the elements were bothering him. He shuffled down the branch nearer to Drywood, but tried to keep the most respectable distance from him. He did not know the male and was shy enough himself.

"Ah, aye, plenty of room for us all. it is best to be as near to the trunk as you can manage, though."

Drywood quite unashamedly made himself comfortable as close to the trunk as he could get, having unknowingly usurped Odd's cosy perch.

"Do come closer, sir," he cheerfully encouraged the white sentinel, "At that distance we won't do each other much good."

It wasn't that he didn't find Odd's unnatural whiteness peculiar, but the brown aberrant was far too focused on his own problems at the moment to really care about such trivialities. He had seen the same phenomenon in mice and mus and knew that it didn't rub off on others. Well, at least not in non-avian species, but right now that was more than good enough for him.
