Alright, so we've had a few people leave the guild and sometimes things in our lives don't necessarily go our way or have anything to give us that would bring smiles to our faces. So I propose that with this topic we share the things that make us happy, things that have happened in the past that we look back to and can't help but smile at, and the many things we have to look forward to in the future.

It's been a while since I've been able to do it, but sitting down and reading through a book that most people would take months to get through always makes me happy. I don't often get a chance to just sit and read like that.

Music makes me happy, no matter the mood of the song.

Creating characters for tabletop/pen and paper rpgs always makes me happy, even if they hardly give enough dots for some of the concepts that come to mind. But then again you can develop the characters to that concept as well, which is always a happy thing as well.

Indulgent storytellers who will humor you when you ask them to continue a story that you were roleplaying previously.

Monkeys.

Playing the wii.

The fact that my mom's radiation treatments are stopping after today and she will not have to suffer through swelling and pain for much longer.

The fact that my mom's treatment is going to end in August all together and she will be well and fully functional again.

My cousin is getting married, and so are two coworkers I had at other bookstore locations!

Books. Books are always happy.

The Sandman comic series by Neil Gaiman. Oh, and Fables too, though I can't remember the author's name.

An employee discount at GameStop for working at a bookstore that stacks with the edge card discount on used games.

Great friends, even if I do not always see them as often as I would like.

My coworkers. heart Work would not be as pleasant without them.

Going to anime conventions with friends makes me happy. Just staying in a hotel with friends is what makes it fun. Last time I went to a big con, my friend fell asleep on the toilet while taking a dump. We call it "Sleep shitting" That always makes me happy.

AFV always makes me happy.

I was thinking on making a post like this, but we should discuss the things that make us happy, not just mention them.
Aslo, we should all be making an effort now to get to know each other more.

Things that make me happy.
I love to read. At the moment I am reading a series written by Ian Irving. The book I just finished really upset me, because right at the end they killed off one of my favourite characters.
I also love music, creating it, listening to it and generally playing instruments and singing.
I love learning and teaching about the powers of the earth and using them on myself and other people.
My boyfriend is what makes me the happiest of all, because he ia a complete gentleman and perfect in every way. He loves everything I love and we never dissagree on anything.

So what's everyones favourite past time?
If you could, what would you love to do most in the world?
Music - What ate your favourite generes? Favourite bands? Favourite instruments/singers/singing style?
What type of books do you like best? Romance? Horror? Fiction?

@[heart attack] What do you enjoy most about laying on the grass? Do you find that it helps you sort out your thoughts?

@innoittaa What type of roleplays do you like the best? What gets on your nerves most about other people in roleplays, or roleplays themselves?
What did your mum need the radiation treatments for?

I like the rpgs like White Wolf's Exalted, Scion, Vampire, Mage, and Changeling games. They have books that you need to buy, and character sheets with various stats for the character, along with rules for how you go about doing things. The thing that gets on my nerves the most is the number of freeform roleplaying games that seem to be filled with mary sues, where horrible things happen to characters so often that after a while you're desensitized to it when it continues to happen. Sure, not every gorgeous female/male character is going to be a Mary Sue, but there are ways of handling things like an attractive face that has nothing to do with everyone falling head over heels for them or trying to attack them every five seconds.

Last year, the month before my birthday, my mom went in for a mammogram and the results revealed that she had breast cancer. Very easy to deal with, since it was a very small amount and we were sure that she's going to be alright after the treatments were all finished. Day after my birthday she went in for surgery to remove it, and since then she's been on chemotherapy. Very recently she started up with the radiation as well, but that's been doing a number on her much greater than the sleepiness induced by the chemo. She's incredibly sore, and her n****e is swollen and red...so today marks the last day of the radiation and Easter will be used to celebrate this! biggrin

- Reading, mostly. Sometimes drawing and writing make a comeback and hop back up with it, but I've been reading a lot since I first learned my phonics.

- I would absolutely love to travel Europe, seeing all the pieces of art I studied in art history in person or going to see the real Dracula's castle and learn more about him. Perhaps go on a tour of the British locations involved in the novel Dracula as well.

- I have way too many favorite bands, and I listen to almost everything except for rap and country. I love the sound of a piano, though the guitar can make some beautiful noises on its own.

- Eee, books! I can do books! I like books on vampire folklore, books with mysteries about other books (the book I'm reading currently is on an ancient manuscript and the author is putting in glimpses of what might have happened around the manuscript itself on its journey through Europe), fiction, modern fantasy like Neil Gaiman and The Dresden Files, books found in cultural studies that have subtitles like 'a low culture manifesto', any books with vampires in them, books on the real lives of great authors...

This here is the vampire squid (better picture than wikipedia). He lives deep down where we can't swim for fear of being crushed. smile

This is the vampire squid's defense - it turns its webbed tentacles over its head and displays the spikes. At each tentacle's tip it has a bioluminescent light to confuse any predators as to where its eye is.

That's so cool!
It looks more like a cacti that a vampire type thing though.
I found out the other day that the way I spelt Vamire in my Gaian name is actually spelt the correct way.
Vampyre is actually a mortal vampire that doesn't evaporate in sunlight, though is generally sensitive to it, it's allergic to garlic but still needs too feed off of peopleor animals for thier blood/energy.

Hmmm... Lessee.

Writing makes me happy, being in the presence of the guy I like makes me happy, even if he doesn't like me back because he told me he liked one of my friends but that's another story, drawing well makes me happy and hanging out with all of my friends makes me squee with happiness.

You know what's kind of interesting, though? The word vampire doesn't really have a fixed origin the way other words do. There are words like vampyr/wampyr that are similar, but they don't mean the fanged beasty we know today. smile Everyone has a vampiric creature in their folklore, but the common term for all of them was more of a spur-of-the-moment creation (at least that's what I imagine since it's not in any of the more ancient legends).

I'm quite fascinated with the change from corpse in the ground sending a spirit out to give you tuberculosis to the sexpot fanged creature we see in movies today.

I find alot of people these days pretend to be a vampire because they think they are cool.
Even to the extent of drinking blood, even if they don't like it.
I have known a few people that have the true craving of a vampire though.
And strangly enough, they have that extra strength thing too.

o_o

Drinking blood? That's kinda creepy... I mean, I'm kinda used to blood and all (tomboy here) but I certainly don't drink it nor do I enjoy the taste of it when it's in my mouth.

Extra strength would be awesome though... n.n Not for the people I always... PLAYFULLY punch though. xD

Sometimes (sometimes, not in every case) people tend to adopt a vampire persona because they want to be, well, special. They want people to pay attention to them, and sometimes it's in order to shock them the way Marilyn Manson first did when he appeared in the music scene. They act the part, they get the fangs, and they'll either say that they drink blood, or they'll sit in public licking the blood from someone's wound in order to get a reaction.

...and apparently a lot of them really don't like questions about their lifestyle. It's rather strange.
