Gareth David-Lloyd (born March 28, 1981) is a Welsh actor best known for his role as Ianto Jones in the British science fiction television programme Torchwood.
Early life
Born Gareth David Lloyd in Bettws, Newport. His first acting role was as a robot in a junior school play. As a teenager, Gareth joined the Gwent Young People's Theatre in Abergavenny and The Dolman Youth Theatre in Newport, where he was a contemporary of the actor Matthew Woodyatt and the singer Nia Lynn. Whilst there, he appeared in several plays, including Macbeth, The Threepenny Opera and Henry V, in which he played the title role. When former Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock saw the young David-Lloyd performing at Monmouth Castle, he sent him £250 to use towards his acting career.
Early Theatre Work
Whilst studying at Coleg Gwent, Crosskeys, Gareth David-Lloyd appeared in various local stage productions at the Dolman Theatre in Newport and the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff.
National Youth Theatre
Gareth went on to train at the National Youth Theatre, before moving to Reading to pursue his acting career with The Rep College.[1][2] David-Lloyd's parts have included Sebastian in Twelfth Night on stage,[2] plus appearances in television programmes such as Absolute Power, Casualty, Rosemary & Thyme and The Bill.
Torchwood
Gareth David-Lloyd returned to Wales for the filming of his first regular television role in Torchwood. In the 2004 comedy/drama Mine All Mine, written by Torchwood creator Russell T. Davies, he played a character named Yanto Jones.
Gareth is one year into a part-time degree in philosophy from the Open University. He met his former girlfriend, Sara Lloyd-Gregory, while filming Torchwood; she played the role of Carys in the episode "Day One".
Gareth recorded a number of M.R. James Ghost Stories entitled Tales of the Supernatural.
He also recently recorded an audio interview for Fantom Films for an audio CD series 'Cult Conversations', in which he talks about his involvement with Torchwood and his brief acting career to date.

Hey, yeah!
He's like the only one we dunno about..
Gwen.. like the first episode and then some is devoted to her.. Owen, we get bits of episodes in Season 1 plus that nice arc that just finished. Jack, obviously, we're learning more about all the time. Tosh has quite a few episodes to herself... Ianto only has Cyberwoman. Which was very stupid.
I'm guessing we'll learn about Ianto (and probably Jack/Ianto along the way) later on.....

yup. you can do that, i just saw a Harkness thread in here and though Ianto needed some love too. might do some actual decorating here tomorrow, haven't actually got other things really tomorrow. sweatdrop

Fantasy_of_Strange_Things what this subforum? a past companion? Welcome to Doctor Who fandom. We watch the spin off series as well as the main one. That was a bit rude... ANYWAY, Ianto Jones is from the spin off Torchwood. He is a very attractive bi man who has wild sex with Jack Harkness. That's all we really know about him because they haven't developed his character like I'd hoped they would. Oh yeah, and way back in the beginning of Torchwood he had a girlfriend who was a cyberwoman but she had to die. It was then that the team learned that he had secrets but he was never asked about his life after that. Thanks team!

My sister, her AMV-making partner, and I have all come to the conclusion that Ianto looks AWESOME in greyscale. Short of that...he should wear red.
I hope we learn more about his backstory too! I think we know a lot about who he is just not *why* he is who he is. All I know...is Ianto needs lots of hugs.
...oh...and I REALLY couldn't decide on the poll. yes plz and STOPWATCH! were equally appealing options. (I went with yes plz.)

I went swimming with my friend Cameron. He was swimming laps and casually mentioned he wished I could run a stopwatch on him...
...I cracked up...
he's seen Torchwood but dosen't like it too much, so he just smacked me on the back of the head for it.

• I love, love, love Ianto! I was so depressed during Children of Earth! Dx It was terrible!!!!!!
(And about the whole being smacked by friends when you bring up Doctor Who/Torchwood, well.... I was at a comic book store yesterday with my freinds, and they had a Doctor Who book, so I grabbed it, and ran to my friend who owed me money. I put it in front of him and kept repeating " Doctor Doctor Doctor Doctor Doctor Doctor Doctor!" Until he told me to shush. I had to bother him for 15 minutes until he eventually caved. And then I started blabbing about he doctor while I was getting Frozen Yogurt with them afterwards... I got yelled at by all of them. So I yelled at them "Exterminate!" And ran away. They didn't get me my frozen yogurt, so I had to pay for it myself...

Ah, Ianto Jones. We knew thee well. That is to say, NOT AT ALL. Way to go, RTD. Killing off a beloved character and then telling us he LIED ABOUT HIS PAST TO EVERYONE. Needless to say I was quite upset.
I miss him. But then, I miss Owen and Tosh too, because the three of them were my favorites. I think that's why I read (past tense) so much Torchwood fanfic. Because I wasn't getting enough of Tosh and Ianto being fierce on the show.
Good man, fantastic suits.
You are missed.
