If someone decided to make the Manga book into another film, would you like to see the same cat playing Sarah and Jareth?
I think I would, especially David Bowie because he was brilliant as Jareth and he still looks good.

Personally, I don't think it would make a good movie. The manga itself moves way too fast. The cast, maybe. Jennifer Connelly is still young, so it would make sense; however, David Bowie may be handsome, but he's not the young spry thing he used to be.
I wouldn't watch the movie if it did become one.

Ah yes, but you know how some writers screw up a good book? What if it were to be made into a movie and we persume that the writer screws it up, well then what if it were to turn out to be better than the manga? You've also gotta read two, it's predictable yes but better.

I have to agree with Chex-Mix on this issue some. Even though David Bowie is a superb actor and still a heartthrob to many girls worldwide, he has aged. Gracefully, yes, but he has still aged.
I might be chased out of the guild for saying this, but I didn't quite like Jennifer Connelley as Sarah. *ducks and hides* It was early in her acting career, so her skills certainly were amateur in ways. However, things most likely have changed since then, being that she is now a hit actress, staring in a James Bond movie and more.
I would have to vote to get a new cast, but with just as much or more charisma as the original cast. Keep the Jim Henson company in there too.

Don't get me wrong here, I love David Bowie as Jareth and I think that he has aged well, but I don't think that he's right for Jareth anymore. True anyone that they get to replace him would never be quite right, but I think that the the role would need to be passed on to someone younger, if Jareth has ruled over the Labyrinth for 1,300 years, he'll hardly have aged in the time since Sarah ran the Labyrinth, twenty years here have done their work.
But I would love to see another movie, introduce another generation to the joy that is Labyrinth

How about animated? A mini series in Anime style, like what's on the first volume cover. Or an anime movie?

When I thought of who would play Toby, I immediately thought of Leonardo DeCaprio. Then again, he's a grown-up now, so, the attitude would be a bit different if he were to play the part. Nowadays, the teen stars are a bit... froo-froo in the way they advertise themselves.
I would be glad to see Johnny Depp in there as a voice if it were to animated. Just... to find a cast with the same omph that the old cast possessed is a tad difficult.
These days though, the special effects wouldn't be something to boo and hiss at. Being one who prefers a visual than word-of-mouth, I would see it just to marvel at the effects. rolleyes

Not that Johnny Depp is overused or anything... but the idea of making the Labyrinth tale into a Tim Burton thing with Johnny Depp is rather interesting...
Johnny Depp as Jareth? Feasible?
And I agree with you, ChexMix, about the new generation of actors being lightheaded and weird.

Yes yes indeed. Todays' young actors are well, they lost it after 2 movies half the time. I was originally going to pull a Harry Potter actor out of my hat but then it's like, oh hell no. So yea, they would need a brand new actor, almost like what jennifer was when she was sarah. it fit her so, that's what we would need for toby. personal opinion of course.
oh and the jim henderson turn tim burton? i would say scary but pleasent thought, so long as it's animated xp i like burton (SWEENY! sorry) but, i don't trust him with the real life verson of what it could be.

I reckon Cary Elwes would make a good Jareth... No offense to The Bowie, it's just that R.T.L is a lot more wordy for Jareth, and Cary has that brooding British bad-guy thing going for him *drool* heart
... As long as Toby's not played by that kid from Malcom in the Middle then I'm happy. ... He's in everything. stare

Cary Elwes? My, the strapping young beast from Princess Bride? I wouldn't mind him being Jareth. wink
I agree that I wouldn't want Frankie Munez either. He's... erm. Not good looking whatsoever and if we're talking about Toby as a teenager, I'd like a little eye candy, personally.
Now that I have a fresh view on this, maybe Johnny Depp isn't too smart of a move. He's got a rough devonaire that's highly attractive, sure, I just wonder about the sophisticated flash that's been buried in our minds from Jim Henson. Will Johnny Depp ruin that?
Who's to say for sure? It's great to throw around different actors and compare their personalities and past roles in movies to the greatness that is David Bowie.

I have never seen Cary Elwes as any other kind of character than a suave goody-pretty-boy roles (much like all the characters Orlando Bloom has taken), and a pretty-boy is a good start, but does not encompass the whole Jareth-persona.
Remember that Johnny Depp is also a versatile actor (much like the career of Robin Williams), and his resume includes roles for the dashingly sexy, slightly crazed, just plain weird, and super-serious characters. I believe that with some makeup, he could pull it off.
Who was that guy that played the teen on Stardust (I'm horrible with names)? I think he would suit well for Toby.
