Just wondering people's opinions on stereotyping/sexism of instruments such as flutes are a sissy instrument and trombones are only for guys. Personally I'm completely against it.

omg, there's a guy flutist who plays both flute and piccilo (sp?) and he gets made fun of. i play the BASS clarinet, and guys say they should play it, because it has the word BASS, which to them means: "Girls cannot play bass insturments. They are too stupid." the guys who say that ARE stupid! i hate it all!

I think it's stupid.
The only section we had that was leaning towards one at my high school is the flutes. All of them were girls except for one. I've seen a few other guys who played the flute throughout my time in school as well.

We have a female trombonist that is like 4' 7". XD I'm not for sexism in the band at all. LET A GIRL PLAY A TUBA. LET A BOY TRY THE PICCOLO.
We have 2 male clarinet players and 1 male oboe!

Sexism, not too sure if that's a word, does NOT belong in band. I want to see more male flutists and more female tuba players. I was considering learning the trombone at one point because there aren't enough female brass players where I live and now I want to play bass clarinet, if I can afford one sweatdrop
If I do get a bass clarinet, I'll probably be teased, because I'm so small.....only 4' 9''.

We've got a combination of both in every section except the flutes, the only male flutist graduated last year, and he was uber good, and the trumpets. We've got female F Horns, Trombones, Bass Clarinets, and even Saxophones. It's kinda creepy...

[quote="Shorty-Nymph"If I do get a bass clarinet, I'll probably be teased, because I'm so small.....only 4' 9''. my section leader is only three inches taller than her bass clarinet, and she's one of the best bass clarinet marchers and players I've ever seen. So don't worry too much about your height
