Gawds, she was bored. So terribly, terribly bored. Bored out of her mind. Bored out of her ball's mind (or rather, the mind she claimed it had). Bored enough to contemplate her navel, to contemplate her Papa's navel, to contemplate her Mama's navel. Lore's navel. BR's navel. Legend's navel. Everyone's navel.
... What exactly was a navel?
She rolled onto her back, pawing at the air carelessly as her eyes flicked towards every direction. Someone had to come around at some point - which was exactly what she was waiting for. Hopefully someone tall ~ who she could climb. Or someone shiny who she could admire. Perhaps someone nice that she could bite at affectionately. Any of those would be fabulous. Very, very fabulous. And her expectations weren't too high, now where they? Which was certainly a plus, considering most the expectations she often made. Besides - oh gawd, how long was she going to have to wait for someone to show up? Honestly. Her patience was wearing thin. But obviously is wasn't her playmate's fault... because they didn't know that they were supposed to meet her hours ago. They didn't even know Tale altogether. So it was understandable.
... Bah, this stunk.

Verrier, however, was not bored in the least. As per usual he was walking around the area, his starry blue ball with two little planet shaped orbs hovering over it mid-air on his back, musing about how the world works as usual. He didn't have any time to play around in the mud, go fishing or whatever the hell his sister October did in her spare time.
The world was an oyster and he wanted to explore it and take all what was worth of it into the catalog inside his mind. The catalog would explain many things, such as why the planet moves around the sun, or why we can only see stars in a clear sky. It would also prove his theories, like why some people had the mental capacity to be intelligent lifeforms yet do not do such a thing.
Of course that's when, in a moment of weakness, she suddenly tripped over something. Something /alive/. His ball fell of the spot of his back and rolled over a few yards away, feeling sad and alone. He looked down on what he tripped over and saw it was a young Luck, red and brown with a purple gem on it's own.

Perhaps she could go locate Lore... Lore was always fun to play with. Any of her siblings were, really. She just couldn't climb on top of them without getting scolded by her mother, and scoldings by her mother were so completely unappealing. She hated being scolded - being scolded was not her-oooowwww! What the butt? What the frilly, loppy butt? Bright and curious eyes made their way towards whatever it was that had hit her. Big Kitsu~! Mayday, mayday! Hit the deck, hit the de- she was already hitting the deck. Tale, having rolled from her back to her side by the impact, watched Verrier with sparkling, blue orbs. She gasped towards the older Luck thoughtfully, "You..." Tails intertwined with one-another in astonishment, "Well I've never." She huffed, "Sparkly, you've tripped over me. And lost your ball! Oh gawds, you've lost your ball... would you like me to go fetch it for you?"
Wait. Hold the phone.
... A playmate! Oh frilly loppy-luck butt, a playmate! What she had been waiting for the entire day. And she was up instantly, "Unless you wanna play with Milo~! He's my ball. And purple. And swirly. He likes long walks on the beach, and getting read to before he goes to sleep. His favorite stories are the Three Little Pigs, and The Ugly Duckling." She approached the starry luck with questioning features, and pounced in front of him excitedly. "But, that's beside the point. I'm Tale! T-A-L-E, Tale. Totally pleased to meet you, monsieur. Bonjour, bonjour ~ and you are?"

Verrier huffed, realizing he fell. He fell?! How stupid could he possibly be? To fall over in such a way, in such a pathetic moronic way. How could he forget to think then walk, not walk then think!! Stupid, stupid, very very stupid! The other quickly regained himself, turning to the one he tripped over. "I'm quite sorry, Miss. I wasn't looking where I was going."
He walked over to his fallen blue orb, a bit frazzled to even comprehend the other's offer. His purple orbs turned to the girl's ball, this 'Milo' as she called it. "You personified your own orb with a name and human characteristics? Quite strange..but whatever you decide to do with your orb is your own decision and, while strange, I shall not question it."
He himself didn't have a name for his orb. Sometimes he mused naming it Milk or Galaxy. Even naming the other two orbs hovering around it Triton and Nereid. Of course he was no longer a naive child. No, he had matured beyond the point of naming non-living objects.
"Bonjour, Miss Tale, correct? Quite a strange name for a child. Well I am Verrier. V-e-r-r-i-e-r. It is nice to meet you too, Mon Cheri~" He responded courteously, bowing his head as he placed a paw over his orb again.

Her tails flicked thoughtfully when he spoke, and at the introduction her lips curved upward. Eyes sparkled at his tone and words until he was finally finished - which was about the time that the young luck made her way to the older male's feet. Thus far, none of her playmates had been so kind and entertaining. So polite. Gawds, he was being so polite. She pawed at his leg affectionately, "I officially love you, Mr. Verrier~! Love you very much. And Milo will approve, I'm sure." Tale nuzzled at the starry male's paw childishly, "He's so overprotective. But he likes you because you are shiny and pretty, and he thinks your voice is creamy-cinnamon-sugary enough to tell good bedtime stories~!"
She pulled herself away from the other Kitsu, her eyes resting upon him contentedly, "I should bring you home! Everyone would love you. I bet even mama would think you were the greatest great individual on this entire planet, yes? Would you like that?"
She had completely disregarded 'Milo' now. Rather was much too interested in whatever Verrier had to reply.

Verrier's mouth almost dropped when she actually declared that she /loved/ him. Love? But she was only a child! Isn't that, illegal? He was most certain it was illegal in many /many/ senses. "L-L-Love?! Miss T-Tale, please think things over a little," he pleaded. The little girl had no idea what she was getting into. "I-I mean, you're only a young girl. The world is your oyster and there are much more better than I for you, after all." Plus they only just met. That and she was a /young/ girl!!
He was so flushed right now he felt like he would faint. Even the orb thought his voice was creamy-cinnamon-sugary!...wait. Orbs can't think?!! Oh no, don't tell me I'm losing my mind now too?
And her mother? Oh dear that wouldn't do. If this little child took him to her mother and said they were in love...well that would not settle well with his stomach or life!

Why was he so flustered? And stutter-filled? She told her siblings she loved them all the time and they never did this. A small frown, "... But... I do love you, Mr. Verrier! I love you very, very much! More than I love Milo." No offense, Milo. Though Milo had been with her since she was but an egg. That seemed hardly fair. But she did love Verrier more than she loved Milo, and her father had taught her to always be honest. Besides, what exactly was wrong with loving Verrier? Nobody else minded when she loved them...
Her ears flattened, "... Do you not love me, Monsieur Verrier...?" She inquired hesitantly. Tale eyed him with letdown, having no idea exactly what she should do.
Bah - what a mess. Even her mommy loved her. And her mommy loved such a few number of people.
Tale pawed awkwardly at the ground beneath her.

Verrier calmed himself down. He didn't want to upset the girl. After all, he never dealt with heart break from a woman, but then again she seems quite...teary eyed just from his last words. She was a little girl. Perhaps he confused love for love. There was no way a little girl could simply love someone as old as himself. Especially since they, yet again, just met.
A light sighed fluttered from Verrier's lips and he spoke. "Miss Tale, I love you...but not in the most special way." He hoped she would understand at least a little.
He flicked his tails, waiting for the girl's expression to reform. Hopefully to something that would make him smile at least a little. Oh how he hated getting in predicaments such as this...

Sparkle was brought to her eyes again when he informed her that he did love her - but then he had to go and ruin it with the 'not in the most special way.' What exactly did that mean? She wasn't good enough to be loved in the special way? Why was there a special way to love, anyhow? Love was love, afterall. It was like adding a plus to an 'A'. Whether it's 'A+' or 'A', it's an 'A' nonetheless - so why even add the plus? She frowned. "But, Verrier - I mean, Mister Verrier, why not in the most special way? Am I contaminated? Contaminated with cooties? Because mama told me that cooties weren't real, and..." But then, love was love. She had just told herself that - therefore, why be upset? "How can I make you love me in this... 'special' way? Because whatever it is, I promise I'll do it! Roll in mud, make Milo befriend your gem, make Milo befriend you - climb a tree? Break into song? Catch you a butterfly? I'm a good butterfly catcher..."
Gawd, whatever it was she promised she would do it. She needed approval. She wanted love, darnit. And she wanted it now. But her parents did always tell her that patience was a virtue.
Wait a minute - what did that mean? Moreover, what exactly was a virtue?
She bit at her tongue with frustration. Geez, she was so completely confused. Was she contaminated with cooties? Is that why he didn't love her in a 'special' way? Afterall, it was her father who had informed her of cootie-existance. Perhaps she should listen to him instead of her mother?

Verrier had never felt so...distraught. He was always the calculating one. Smart, witty, philosophical and mature. And here he was, being brought to stutters and stammers, by a little girl. How mortifying. October must never get wind of this, or she will never let it down.
"N-N-No. Cooties don't exist, Tale. It's just that...oh good dear how could I possibly ever explain this correctly?? Argh!" He had to remember, she was a child. She doesn't know better and perhaps a small white lie won't hurt that much. After all, there is an extent to how much a child can truly believe in an adult?
"Tale, you don't need to do anything to make someone love you in a special way. It happens naturally. When it happens it will happen. And don't worry Tale," Verrier smiled, nuzzling the girl's forehead softly in a /brotherly/ matter. That's right--brotherly!, "there will always be people that love you no matter what, special love or none."
Oh please, please, please let her except that!!

She purred in approval when she was nuzzled, "I love you in a special way, Mister Verrier. You'll go on the top of 'Awesome People I've Met' list ~ how does that sound? Good~? And I hope that one day I'll go on the top of your 'Awesome People I've Met' list - that is, assuming you ever have one." She quirked a brow at this. Didn't everyone have a list such as that? If not, then they should~! It certainly helped her keep track of other Kitsu. But she highly doubted she'd forget Verrier, anyhow. Actually, she never forgot a face! ... It was names she forgot.
Verrier, Verrier, Verrier, Verrier. Okay, stuck. Totally forever imprinted in her brain.
He was making her obscenely happy. It was ridiculous how easily Tale was pleased. Then, she could get upset just as easily - she supposed. She rubbed her side against the larger Kitsu's leg affectionately, her face rubbing his chest in the process. "You're on the top of Milo's 'Awesome People I've Met' list, too! Isn't that exciting? He thinks you're shiny and he loves shiny. Your ball is on his list too. Say, what is your balls name, Mister Verrier? For Milo's list's sake~" She offered him a tender, childish smile.
She loved the attention ~ positively loved it. Someone had once called her an attention... Wore, Wart, Chore, Core...? Whatever it was - she had no idea what it meant, but she was certainly going to live up to it. Probably that she starved for attention, and she did.

Verrier sighed lightly, a bit relieved at Tale's words. Now everything would be fine. She would eventually forget any memory of him and can live a normal life. Find a mate, have one of those silly fairy tale weddings- maybe even have a child or two. After all- that's what every girl ever dreamed of yes? He was certain of it, very certain indeed. She was just a little girl- her definition of love was dictated in children bedtime stories. There was no way she could possibly fall in love with an older man such as himself...
Older man? Great, now he felt like 100 years old.
"My ball's name? Well--" he paused, pointing to his ball and the two little orbs revolving around it. "The big one's name is Galaxy. The two smaller white orbs around it are Triton and Nereid." He smiled as he personified his orb. He was thinking of such a thing earlier on as well, of course he never would have believed it would come to actually naming the three inanimate objects."
It was okay since he was talking to a child right? This wasn't considered madness?

She peered at him with eyes wide as plates. "Wooow~" Tale whispered, an ear flicking before she nuzzled at the older male's leg thoughtfully. "What pretty names! Galaxy, Triton and Nereid, you say? Milo wishes he had a name that cool, don't you Milo?" She glanced at the purple gem, hidden safely behind Verrier's leg while it lay patiently (assuming inanimate objects have any patience at all, Tale believes they do - Tale who, also believes very strongly that the Boogie Man will get her one day, and so Tale's belief is extremely insignificant to most Kitsu) on the ground away from her. "But it's too bad, though; because he picked his name and I had no say in the matter. I told him he'd probably regret the name he chose within time, I did - but he didn't listen. And now that he meets awesomeness as cool as Galaxy, Nereid, and Triton - and gorgeous Verrier, yourself, Monsieur; he is extremely jealous." She offered him a wide smile, "Say, Mister Verrier, one of my uber best friends in the universe of who is my favorite person ever in the entire world; do you think my name is pretty? I mean - I think it is... but in comparison to yours, and Triton's, and Galaxy's, and Nereid's, it's like - not so pretty..." Her nose wrinkled at the statement, and eyes crossed childishly as she tried to see what a wrinkled nose looked like.
But then she lost interest.
"Ohohoh, Verrier-Best-Friend, guess what? Wanna know a secret? An awesome secret! A completely marvelous, marvelous secret." She didn't even wait for him to answer, rather jumped to vocalizing the 'secret' at him immediately, "You are the sweetest, bestest Kitsu I've ever known! Isn't that an honor? Isn't it just the most fabulous thing ever?"

Verrier chuckled at Tale's childish demeanor. He was never a very social kit when he was about her age. She obviously has so much to learn still and so much more time than he does. Usually he would scorn others for believing in childish fantasies, such as her own. Yet she was only a small girl- a child compared to the world at hand. To have dreams and fantasies such as a glassy ball being about to have human intelligence was allowed. It stimulated the mind. He had a feeling Tale would become a great woman one day.
"If a name is gracious enough to be bestowed on any being, kit or...glossy ball, then it is a splendid name," he smiled at her and patted her gently on her forehead, "your name is wonderful, because it is your own."
Of course by then she wasn't paying attention, as she had yet again asked a question almost directly after her last one.
"Why...thank you, Tale. That is very kind of you." Verrier spoke with a small grin.
Okay being called the 'sweetest, bestest Kitsu ever' by a child was not really /that/ amazing, but at the same time it was in it's own special way.

She adored the attention, pure eyes closing when her head was tapped so tenderly. Tale rolled onto her back, both of her front paws catching Verrier's thoughtfully as she looked up at him. Lips were pulled backward in a pleased smile when he told her that her name was wonderful. And it was true that it was her own; her parents had given it to her, after all, and she loved her parents. Therefore, she loved her name. She just loved Verrier's and Triton's and Nereid's and Galaxy's, more. Because she loved them. All four of them. Truth be told, she liked Milo's name more than she liked her own, too - no matter how much she said differently. And the reason for it was that if she liked someone, she liked everything about them, and that was that. She liked everything about her mother, everything about her father, everything about her sisters, everything about Verrier, and Milo, and Galaxy, and pretty much everyone she had ever met altogether.
Her grin widened even more when he agreed that her adoration of him was, in fact, an honor and fabulous. And then he told her that it was very kind of her, "Pfft ~ it's not like I just handed it over to you, Monsieur. You've totally earned it. Along with that spot waaaay up top of my good lists. I bet you're waaaay up top on Santa Claus's good list, too."
She clawed at his paw childishly and gently, her nose wrinkling again. "Say, Mister Verrier, is your family nice? Mine is! My family is crazy nice! ... And just plain crazy, really. Except for mommy. Mommy isn't crazy. And she's really smart. I think she might be as smart as you, but I don't know - because you're really smart. You're smarter than me. Waaaay smarter than me."
