Fernpelt walked slowly out of the warrior's den to find Mangoberry already waiting for her to go to Sunning rocks. She twitched her tail indicating she wanted him to follow she slowly walked the way to Sunningrocks and plunged into the river and swam to the other side. There she sat waiting for Fireheart to arrive.

Mangoberry followed Fernpelt silently he wasn't sure what to say and she didn't seem to want to speak either. He plunged into the water after her his heart pounding as they went. Maybe it was the thought of crossing the water or the smell of Thunderclan. Either way he was nervous and feeling upset, but he pulled himself out of the water and joined Fernpelt at her side. Though he was not as comfortable as she and he pressed his belly to the stone looking in every direction ready to plunge back into the water if need be.

Fireheart slipped silently out of camp, as he had many nights in the past, and made his way quickly towards sunning rocks. Fernpelt had got him the message that she wanted to meet him here tonight and it was important but what it was about he had no idea. His injuries from the fight with the fox were healed now and he felt as if he'd never had them in the first place. The only signs the battle had actually happened were the scar on his paw and the on on his left shoulder where the fur was still growing back.
As he neared sunning rocks Fireheart stopped. There was something strange tonight. Another cat, Riverclan... a male. His heartbeat quickened and he crouched, stalking up to the edge of the trees and peered out from behind a tree. There, as he had known, was Fernpelt but there was another cat with her. What was this all about? No matter, if it lead to a fight he could handle it but he wouldn't keep Fernpelt waiting. Stepping out from behind the tree he made his way over and leaped onto the rock beside Fernpelt. "Hello m'love, you said there was something important you needed to talk about tonight?"

"Yes there is." She mewed. "But first, I think Mangoberry would like to talk to you." She flicked her tail indicating for Mangoberry to come and she edged away a bit for Mangoberry to sit next to her and talk to Fireheart.

Mangoberry looked Fireheart over, of all the cats why had she chosen this kittypet. Straitening to his full size Mangoberry's eyes stared into Firehearts.
"Fernpelt is...my friend, she is my den mate, and we even trained together. She means more to me then even she will ever know. I....need to know if you really love her. What will you do if the our clans have to fight? Will you protect her? I want to know if your love is even over that of clan loyalty. In a way I can see that it is, but what will you choose when you are finally asked too, and believe me you will be. Specialy if.....well if ....you have kits together."
Mangoberry didn't let go of his gaze at Fireheart he had to know the truth.

Fenpelt stared in shock at Mangoberry. He had been her friend and her denmate. If he had let her know this earlier would she still have chosen Fireheart. These were questions she couldn't answer. How could she love both of them. She knew she would hace to choose sooner or later. The question was would she choose the right one?

Fireheart looked at the male RiverClan warrior. He listened and nodded, he knew what his answer would be from the moment the cat had implied his train of thought... that was... until he saw Fernpelt's face after the other cat was done speaking. Suddenly it felt as if ten foxes were all ripping at him, tearing him apart and there was nothing he could do. He flicked his tail, irritated at the feelings, the anger, the sadness, the heartbreak he felt now. "I'll get to your question in a moment Mangoberry..." he said before turning to stare at Fernpelt.
He saw the confusion in her eyes. "Is there something you want to tell me Fernpelt? You can tell me anything, honestly, I'll be fine." He had worked hard to control his voice, his stance and his eyes most of all, he gave away no sign at all that he was falling apart inside, not a single trace of the chaos swarming inside him that made him feel like he was bursting into millions of pieces. He had to know what she wanted, and part of him wanted her to say that she wanted Mangoberry. It would be better for her if she loved a RiverClan cat.

Fernpelt stood rigid in shock she knew she couldn't choose now but in her mind the two cats... Fireheart was winning her love. She couldn't say that she wanted him or that she wanted Mangoberry. The words all choked in her throat, "I-I-I," she broke off and ran back to the river then plunged in and kept running even when she was on the other side.
After a long while of thinking by herself she knew who she had to choose so slowly she walked back to the river wondering how the other would react and how they would ever be friends again...

Mangoberry's fur fluffed as she left him alone in Thunderclan territory. He did realize how much he had let out till now. His eyes were wide at revealing himself this is not what he had meant to do. He didn't want Fernpelt to know how he felt, he didn't want her to have to choose. Mangoberry would fall a part if she didn't choose him he was better off not knowing.
"Ignore her tell me now the answers I seek before she crosses the river Fireheart. I do not want to hear her answer in that voice of her's on whom she likes,....because deep down I know she will choose you. I just want to known you really care for her and will take care of her!!! Fireheart tell me!"
Mangoberry was losing his composure tears welling in his eyes as she got closer to their side of the water. He stepped away towards the river ready to jump in before he heard her speak even if it meant missing the words he had come to hear.

Fireheart started to run after her as she took off but stopped, remembering there was another cat to deal with, turning back he cast a glance of his shoulder at her retreating form. He hadn't meant to cause her pain or sorrow, honestly he wanted her to choose Mangoberry, he was better for her than Fireheart could ever hope to be.
Turning to Mangoberry after quite awhile of silence he spoke "Honestly... I wish she'd choose you, you'd be a much better mate for her than I could ever hope to be. If something attacks her on RiverClan territory how would I know unless it was near my border? How would I be able to protect her? I love her dearly and would give my life to protect her but I still believe you'd be a better mate for her, you could do things for her I could never dream of and it kills me to admit it but it's true..."
Fireheart had taken long enough to explain that he saw over Mangoberry's shoulder that Fernpelt was back across the distance, had she heard what he said? Part of him hoped she did, the other hoped dearly she hadn't. He looked back to Mangoberry then to Fernpelt. He knew what he had to do, he had to do what was best for her even if she didn't believe it was, he knew in his heart that Mangoberry would be better for her than he could ever be. "Take care of her for me. Tell her I love her but I know you'll be able to care for her in ways that I could never hope to..." he said before turning away and bounding into the dark shadows of the forest.
He was nearly at the Shadowclan border when he stopped at the edge of the thunderpath. He finally broke down, his defenses fell and he felt the weight of what he had just done crush him. Without thinking he darted out onto the thunderpath, he didn't even notice the monster coming towards him until it was nearly on top of him. Quickly he crouched down and the tires barely missed him. He blinked and stayed crouched, shivering in terror from the near-death experience. After awhile he rose and continued across the thunderpath wandering aimlessly into the boggy Shadowclan territory.

"You fool!" Mangoberry growled, but Fireheart was gone already. Mangoberry waited for Fernpelt he would have to hear her out now. If she choose Fireheart Mangoberry was going to fetch him back, this was his fault and it needed to be dealt with.
"Fernpelt.....be quick and tell me who you have chosen." Each word was painful to him, but it had to be said and it had to be quick.

Fernpelt heart felt broken and slowly she collapsed to the ground. Had Fireheart really meant it? She had to try. She looked up to Mangoberry and slowly mewed, "I-I-I love Fireheart. I'm so sorry Mangoberry, I love you too but..." She hoped Mangoberry would still be her friend.

"Go back across the Riverclan border and wait." Even though the words sounded firm, Mangoberry was having problems breathing after hearing those words in her voice.
"Its ok, just go and wait." Maybe Mangoberry was out of his mind, but he jumped from Sunning Rocks and ran into Thunderclan territory. He caught Fireheart's scent quickly and followed it father away from his home. He was afraid and heart broken, but he kept moving till he reached the Thunderpath he had been lucky not to run into Thunderclan cats, but why had Fireheart gone into Shadowclan territory.
"Does he have a death wish!!" Mangoberry without thinking ran into the Thunderpath a monster rushed towards him, he ducked and it roared over him a rock hitting his face hard as it did. Blood trickled down his face, but he jumped across the rest of the Thunderpath.
"Fireheart you fool where are you?" Mangoberry spat in a whispered tone.

Fireheart had finally worn himself out, all his energy spent and his paws covered in muck he climbed into a tree and curled up to sleep on one of the branches. He had no fear of what ShadowClan might do to him if they found him, it couldn't be worse than the pain he felt now. Slowly his eyes drooped closed and he drifted off to sleep.
