Right now, my stage band is practising for Music Fest Canada in Ottawa.
The three pieces Mrs. M (our conductor) picked for us to play are Footlifter, Thre Czech Folksongs and The Kinmount Overture.

Personally, I love Kinmount because it sounds full and rich but I seem to be the only one in the band who does actually like it, everyone else complains that their parts are too hard, and they can't do it, and we're going to fail in competeition. I'll admit my part is difficult because I can never do the phrasing properly, but I still love it. That love could be the reason why I try harder.

So I ask, what is your favourite piece to play in band, despite your own part?
Also, how do you get the rest of your band to stop whining and actually work?

well last band season,
our three marching peices here
Pegasus, Andante, and One more time Chuck Corea.
i loved them all, but i think i was one of the few who actually liked Andante.
most said it was too slow.

but now in Jazz band, i'm playing tenor part,
and i'm really digging Ruby Baby

I LOVE 1812 OVERTURE!!!! I also love: "It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That Swing!", "Satin Doll", and "Mood Indigo" all by the Duke. Our school's doing an all jazz concert. We got stuff from the duke, the count and the king.

My favorite piece to play is Godzilla Eats Las Vegas, even though it was a killer piece (we played it last year) and no one in my section could play the runs. The runs were killer, but we were all very passionate and determined to play the piece that everyone worked their butts off so that we could play it well.

Other then that, our BD is really laid-back and a real nice guy so it just takes one really pissed off lecture from him and everyone feels pretty bad about themselves. Or, you know, he just tells them that he's disappointed in them, and then we feel bad and get to work really hard. I should know. D:

O Magnum Mysterium and Ghost Train. I didn't play to much in O Magnum, but it sounded amazing when we played it! The recording of it from our concert still makes me get goosebumps...it was beautiful! =D And Ghost Train is amazing to play, I loved it.
