When Susan had called, they talked for maybe ten minutes or so before Ruri decided she wanted to chat as well. Raleigh wasn’t given the chance to ask ‘how exactly does one teach?’ and now he was to be thrown into the deep end. He was supposed to teach Ace how to focus, center himself and hopefully feel his powers. Or something like that anyway.
In the end Raleigh had decided he would use the teaching style of his Aikido sensei, with his own twists here and there.
Waiting in one of the hologram rooms, he’d chosen just a normal training room scene. Keep it simply. He was dressed only in baggy black pants and he held a wooden fan in his hand that he kept snapping open and then shut.
He was waiting patiently for Ace to arrive for his first lesson.

Ace appeared in the hologram, along with Pocket Ace and the scorpion from earlier. He was pointing firmly at them and holding a piece of air, "NOW..." He ordered.
The cat mewed, but then turned around, disappeared with the two. Ace slammed the unseen door. He turned around and grinned at Raleigh, "Hey! How are you? Anything interesting going on?" He chatted, circling around to plop down beside Raleigh on the floor.

Raleigh gave a small smile back to Ace. Oh jeez, his student. He closed his eyes briefly and steeled himself. If he was going to be teaching, he was going to do it properly. “I’m fine.” He moved around the sitting the form of Ace, inspecting him. “I’ll assume you’ve picked comfortable clothes.”
Tucking his legs neatly beneath him, he knelt in front of Ace. “While I’m teaching you, you will refer to me as Sensei. First I’ll teach you to sit properly.” His voice was calm and steady. “After that you’ll learn how to focus.”

"Oh, yeah, I----Huh?" Ace asked, screwing his face up at Raleigh. That wasn't like Raleigh at all, "What, you want to be called dead fish and you're going to give me etiquette lessons? Just as long as I don't have to eat you, Sushi!" He was absolutely amused by his misunderstanding.

Raleigh sighed as his annoyance and uncertainty battled to be the top emotion. Was he even doing this right? Well, he’d started; he couldn’t exactly back out now. His hand moved quickly, the fan snapping shut and the wooden edge hitting the side of Ace’s head. It wouldn’t hurt, since Ra hadn’t put that much force into it, but it would certainly be a bit of a surprise.
“You will not speak unless spoken to. You will call me Sensei, which, if you’re head is working properly, doesn’t sound like sushi at all. You are going to learn without complaint. I've been told to teach you and that is what I am going to do." He cleared his throat and gave Ace a warning glare.
"Do you understand?"

"Huh?" Ace demanded again, giving Raleigh a WTF look. Confusion battled with rebellion battled with curiosity, all emotions clearly showing in Ace's face in a few seconds.
The last emotion won out. Sort of, "I was spoken to." He pointed out, "And, sure, I got it." He leaned back on the palms of his hands. So what?

“True. But I didn’t ask for a comment.” Raleigh gave him a devious little smile, the fan coming to rest in his lap. “Now, see how I’m sitting. Kneel, put your legs beneath you and sit on them. It’s quite simple, but your legs might not be used to the position.” He stood up, leaning forward and pushing up with his toes.
“I’ll correct as we go along.”

"Like this?" Ace asked, shifting himself so he was sitting on his legs. He looked up at Raleigh, "Why is sitting part of training? What are we gonna do anyway? I didn't understand Susan. She used weird words."
Yeah, Ace barely had any idea that there was an eastern world, much less anything about it. He just played their video games.

Raleigh’s eye gave a minute twitch. He was standing behind Ace now. The fan contacted one more with the younger boys head, this time with more force. “I didn’t tell you to speak.” He warned in a quiet voice and then prodded Ace’s foot with his bare feet.
“Straighten your feet. Lay them flat beside each other. You should have you shoes off.”
Ooc: I'm assuming Ra forget to tell Ace to take his shoes off... >.>;

Ace blinked. Was Raleigh going to smack him on the head every time he opened his mouth. He maneuvered himself again to pull of his shoes, tossing the first to the side, then playfully smacking Raleigh with the other foot. But he didn't talk! He tossed it to the side as well.
And...flatten his feet? Geez, what was this, to get blackmail stories or something?

Raleigh nearly chuckled when Ace smacked him with shoe, but he held it back. It was amusing to see the spirited boys little form of retaliation. To be honest he was being a lot easier to deal with than Ra had been on his first lesson.
“That’s good enough.” He knelt back down in front of his student and now allowed himself a smile. “We won’t be moving from this spot for a while. Hands in your lap and close your eyes.” He proceeded to explain the method of breathing Ace should use; taking deep, long breaths though his mouth, holding it and then let it out through his nose.
“I’m going to have to teach you how to sit still for five minutes and focus on what is within.”

Ace put his hands on his lap as told, but just squinted his eyes. There was no way he was going without looking to see what Raleigh was going to do next!
Then he forgot to try to keep them closed as he stared at Raleigh's explanation of breathing, and demonstrated. Geez. He was being serious. This was sort of... Gay...
Ace couldn't help but to snicker at Raleigh's next words, "What? Like guts or---" He only remembered he wasn't supposed to be talking because his loud, amused voice sounded nothing like the one Raleigh was using. So he bit his lip and laughed silently.

How on earth was this going to work? Raleigh was beginning to panic. His being a teacher had been a stupid, stupid idea. Thankfully the way he was breathing helped calm him down before he could get up and walk out.
“Just focus on the breathing. Try and empty your mind and… do not move! Not a muscle.”
Raleigh was prepared to sit there for however long it took for Ace to figure things out. He worked a plan through his mind, one that would be ready to be started once he’d let his student stew for a bit.

Ace groaned. Then settled in to do what Raleigh told him to. Sort of. He sat correctly and breathed norm--ah, in his nose and out his mouth-- YES, sushi-Raleigh? Oh, in his mouth and out his nose. He sat still, but he let his mind wander once he got his breathing right for a moment.
He was trying to figure out what Raleigh had next. If it went on like this, he'd probably -- WHAT? Oh, he was breathing wrong again...Ok, so in his nose...in his mouth and out his ears, for all he cared. Anyway, Ace had thought Raleigh was... WHAT?
Concentrate? On his breathing? And empty his mind. Uh.
"This is gay." He finally protested outloud, and unwound himself, sitting back and resting on his palms again, "What is wrong with you?" And if Raleigh came near him with that fan, he was in the perfect position to KICK at him....

Raleigh sighed. Alright, different tact. It was obvious that he was doing this all wrong and something else needed to be tried. The way his sensei had trained him, wasn’t working well with Ace and he shouldn’t have expected it to. Ra didn’t have 2% of the experience the old man had.
“Okay look, the point of the breathing is to help you clear your mind. It’s like meditation.” He met Ace’s gaze with a determined one of his own. “As an Evo you have to be able to focus. No matter what distractions are going on around you or how much pain you are in, you MUST be able to ignore it and focus on the task that is most important.”
He made a point of putting the fan down on the ground beside him. “My method might not have been the best choice, but I’m trying to teach you. Understand? Now, if you please, get back into position and I want you to think about me. Good or bad, doesn’t matter, just focus your attention on me.”
