It had taken nothing at all to talk to Lila's parents, and it had taken nothing at all to convince them that she would need to leave the area. Shoot, it had taken nothing at all to gain guardianship over the girl.
So now Melody Campbell had a girl. Hello, Lila.
They'd met, briefly, a few times before, but really Lila and Melody were still strangers to each other. Even the move away to her apartment of the much larger city of Phoenix had left them both so tired that they hadn't gotten time to get to know each other.
And now... Now she was expected to do this with a new recruit! Really now!
Melody prepared a good breakfast for Lila the morning that she decided to tell her. She greeted her with a cheery, "Good morning! Come and sit and dine! I'm afraid we haven't had much time to get to know each other, honey, I expect you'll be wanting to?"
She smiled warmly at Lila.
If nothing else, the 27 year old woman had never been anything but earnestly kind and gentle with the girl. In one way, she gave off the energy of youth, but in another she had a quietness about her. The same southern comfort that perhaps that a well grounded older lady seemed to give off.
{{OOC: Let's see how Melody works out. She's a different sort of character for me. ^_^ I'm going to try to move QUICKLY to get her visiting with Daniel and gang)

Lila Bailey smiled shyly as she stepped into the kitchen of her new guardian's apartment, sending up a silent thanks that the woman was cooking. A meal in the morning would definately serve to make her feel at home; at least as much as she could just then. Everything was still too new to consider being totally at ease.
Sliding into one of the empty chairs at the table, the sixteen-year-old ran a nervous hand over the top of her head and down the right side, tugging carelessly at a messily braided pigtail. She hadn't done much in the means of getting dressed that morning and light brown strands whisped around her face in protest to their abandonment.
Lila blinked as she realized that Melody had spoken to her, and busied herself by playing with her fork as she answered. "Uhh... yeah." She murmured, a little unsure of herself and what she was supposed to be doing. "That sounds alright."
Placing her fork back down, the girl stood and peered curiously at her guardian. "S'there anything I can do?" She queried, relatively unaware of the sharp Southern twang in her voice. "Get the drinks or something?"

"Oh, no, it's all set up! You can help with the warshing up when we're finished. Thank you." Melody smiled, so pleased with the polite girl in front of her, "I was thinking, since we have time on our hands now, that next week we could go to Hawaii. I have some friends there, and I'm sure you would love to meet some of the people. We could spend the week puttering around the house and then go enjoy ourselves out on the beach. Would you like that?" She offered. She was terribly worried that Lila would hate the idea, and now looked a little concerned after she had offered.
She didn't want to, really, but perhaps Lila had more spunk and energy about her than she did.

Lila caught her breath and felt her pulse begin to race.
"H-Hawaii?" She gasped, eyes wide as she digested the idea. The thought of her in a place like that nearly made her want to laugh. She'd never even left Arkansas until now. Here was a chance to go somewhere. Here was a chance to go across the ocean.
"I-I'd be thrilled to go." She stammered, still in disbelief at the chance presenting itself. Remembering her manners, green-grey eyes lowered to the ground. "That is, if it wouldn't be too much trouble. I don't want you to pay an arm and a leg just to get me somewhere like that. I'll be fine anywhere you need me."
Offering the older woman an encouraging smile, she reached for a glass of orange juice, took a small sip, and grimaced at the taste. The bitterness put a secretive smile on her face. She'd always hated orange juice. Since she was little. She still hated it. But she made a point to drink it when it was available. Not for any particular reason. Just because she could.
For a split second, Lila considered letting Melody in on her little joke. It was kind of funny, and she figured that the woman would laugh; if only to make her feel better. But, she wasn't quite sure that they were friends yet. Not the kind of friends that told one another about silly things like that. What was the word?
Ah. They were acquaintances. Maybe Hawaii would change that. Lila could definately use a friend or two of her own.

Melody's eyes danced. She may not like it, but the excitement in the other girl's eyes also made her excited, "Fantastic! Of course it's no trouble, or I wouldn't have offered. I'm glad you like the idea. We'll have so much fun! We should go shopping, just for the trip. We could buy a new outfit, or bathing suit."
She considered the girl fondly, then her eyes grew a little somber. In many ways, Melody felt like she was an old woman. She'd seen too much in her life. Her heart had just cried out for this little one who seemed like she had been about to start on the same sort of life she was. So she had asked to be that person for Lila that she had never had for herself.
But in many ways, she still felt uncertain of herself, unsure of the world around her. Unsure of other people, and unsure of how she could even be a help to this girl.
"Lila?" She asked, a little shyly.

Lila blushed at the idea of buying a bathing suit. She rarely swam at all, and when she did, it was in the most clothing possible. The one time that she'd been persuaded into a one-piece, there'd been a T-shirt and shorts over it. Strangely, though, Lila liked the idea of buying one to wear in Hawaii. The hope of being at the beach sometime soon was so very exciting.
The girl found herself wandering to mental images of sand and volcanos and surfing. Surfers. Guy surfers. With long hair that'd make her granny have a cow. It was definately something she looked forward to, and she felt only the tiniest bit of guilt.
At hearing her own name, Lila dropped out of her musings and turned her eyes towards Melody.
"Yes, ma'am?" She asked warily, worried that she'd done or said something wrong.

Melody looked down, twirling a cup in her hands, "I-uhm--I know that, technically, I'm supposed to be like a---like a godmother or mammy or something to you. And, you know, I will be and I guess I'll have to expect things from you, but... But, you know, I really--I--I don't know that I like that so much. Can we pretend instead to be like sisters? Just, I'm the big sister with a lot of extra care for you?"
She wouldn't even look up at Lila now. The cup stopped twirling though as she listened for the answer.

Lila listened intently, curious as to what could distress her new guardian. When Melody finished speaking, the teen was silent. Slowly, a grin spread across her face and lit her features. Her teeth, usually hidden, were bright as the smile grew wider.
"I've never had a sister." She said softly, bending her head down and cocking it to the side to meet Melody's downturned eyes. "It sounds right fun to me."

Melody looked up, again bright and smiling, "Really? That's wonderful! I'm so glad! You've no idea the weight that takes up."
She stood and twirled to start cleaning up the dishes, now that they were near to being finished, "This is going to be so much fun! We'll go shopping for some things. You'll need a suitcase, I think, and do you have everything you want here? I know it isn't like home, but I'd be glad to something you wanted. You like your room? What sort of games do you like to play, or movies to watch? Do you like some magazines we should get subscriptions to?" Melody's eyes lit up, "Ooh! You know what we should do? We should go to get our nails done and get a makeover and stuff. Wouldn't that be fun? I wonder if I can victorian ringlets in my hair. I don't know, it's so thick."
Melody just bubbled up now, excitement clear as she chattered, "The friends we're meeting are all evolveds too, like us." She hadn't mentioned before that she was an evolved, "We could practice our abilities a little to show off maybe. Oh, it's going to be so much fun! Do you like the beach? I've never been surfing before, but maybe we can try that. Or go sailing! I wonder if they have parasailing... Oohh, we'll get to see the sunset and sunrise on the beach even. Isn't this just going to fantastic?"

Lila was barely able to stifle her laughter as Melody chattered on, standing and helping clear the table and move the dishes to the sink. She'd just bent over to pick up a napkin she'd dropped when her guardian mentioned their abilities.
Her head shot up, crashing against the bottom of the table and causing the remaining dishes to clatter noisily. Her eyes watered as she tenderly rose, rubbing the place on her scalp that stung as she set the napkin back down on the tabletop.
She hadn't known that Melody was an evolved. She probably should've realized it sooner, but, in all the stress of leaving her home and finding herself in this new place, the thought hadn't crossed her mind.
And showing off her own abilities wasn't anywhere near what she'd pictured in a trip to Hawaii. Especially in front of other evolveds.
"You... You've got powers?" She asked, carrying the last of the dishes over to the sink and setting them in the water gently. "I mean. I guess you do. But, what are they? Am I allowed to ask?"

"Oh, I'm sorry!" Melody touched Lila with concern, "I didn't mean to startle you like that. Yes, I am, but it isn't anything special really." She blushed a little, but then reached toward an outlet, putting her finger into it even and pulling out a small string of electricity. She held it up, crackling, and then freezing into a golden string. She offered the string to Lila, "Eventually, it'll sort of fizz out, it's releasing the electricity slowly. Like static." She looked a little embarrassed to be showing Lila, but that was only fair, wasn't it?

Lina took the string, holding it in her hand loftily as she studied it. Her expression was unreadable, though her eyes were wide. It was a tangible piece of string. That amazed her.
Looking up at Melody, she smiled, though it was strained.
"That's really something." She mused, pulling her index finger and thumb down the link of the golden length. "How long did it take you to learn how to do that? It's... it's crazy. Better than anything I could muster up."
Her cheeks were flushed as she said the last line, meaning it with her whole heart. She hated her ability. Her gift. Not only had it taken her away from her family, but now her whole town hated her. Even Sammy. And it wasn't even a useful power. Creating food; now that was nifty. Being able to control electricity could come in handy if there was a power outage or something. But beads? Exploding beads that caught things on fire. Absolutely... stupid.

"Awhile. At first, I just sort of blew all electrical appliances around me," Melody still looked embarressed, "You're very lucky with your powers. They're so much nicer than mine. Very neat." She nodded, really believing what she said.
Lila looked up quickly, nearly dropping the string held between her fingers. "Someone told you what my power was? Who? I... I didn't think anybody really knew. Except for the first ones who found me." She let it drop, realizing that it was foolish of her to think that Melody wouldn't be informed about her powers to the furthest extent. It'd be like offering to have a wild animal in her house, but not asking which species, if she hadn't.

"Well, of course, we talked about it. That's why you're here" Melody was surprised, then shook her head, "It's been a whirlwind of a couple of days, hasn't it? Hard to remember what's been said." She smiled, "Maybe we should start over. Like sisters meeting for the first time since being separated at birth or something?" She offered, then shook her head, "You shouldn't be so concerned. You're safe. I promised you that. I'll keep you safe."

((Sorry it too ages.... -.-))
Lila gave a weak smile and nodded her head.
"Yeah..." She gulped, convincing herself that she believed what Melody told her. "Everything'll be just fine."
Shifting uneasily for a moment, the girl searched for something to add. Finally, a grin sprung onto her face.
"So, how about we get ready for Hawaii?"
