I just recently watched the movie. I liked it, and thought the book wouldn't be too bad. Well, I love this book. Christopher is quite possibly the youngest author of my time, and one of the most talented. I have not had a dull moment, and every page leaves me wanting more. Definitely a great find, and will have a great read a second time. I look forward to see more of his work.

paolini definately shows promise for future books even if eragon/eldest are not the best 3nodding i did enjoy reading them, but the movie was just rediculous. the acting was horrible, it did not follow the book, and these combined made it horribly cheesy in my opinion xp

I would like to see Paolini write something besides the Eragon series, sadly I hardly think that will happen before the 4th book is published.

Now this sound entirely hypocritical coming from me and I'll probably catch a bit of flak for it but such is life, plus I'm a mod, so be warned flakkers stressed .

I've found that if a writer, especially a young one continues a series that he feels comfortable in then he or she will keep making the same mistakes as long as their in the same mind frame. If Christopher branched out, even if he took a year off to write short stories along a wide range of genres and character types, THEN went back to writing Inheritance, I think we would see some serious growth in his over all ability.

Now, for the boy that played Eragon, I thought his acting was quite adequate. Jeremy Irons acting was good. Now, I know their character were nothing like those of the books at all. But, the actual acting was good nonetheless.

And, I agree that his work isn't the greatest, but just at such an age is a great feat in my eyes. Although, I do see a lot of David Eddings and Piers Anthony in his writings. Almost taken directly. There may be much more. I just noticed those two authors. Also, some from Tolkien. Although, most fantasy authors do take from him whether it is on purpose or not. I agree that he should begin writing something else that doesn't involve The Inheritance Trilogy. Well, it's going to be four books now, but you get my meaning. All the same, I enjoyed the movie, and I love the first book. I will be reading Eldest soon.

Yes, I thought the same thing. Same thing happened to me for Lord of the Rings. Luckily, I got to see the movies, then read the books. I started reading late in life. haha.

many theories and such from me but eragon was not in the least the best series or books that i have read. if you want to get me started on book movie comparisons then you better either have a good back up because i am good at argueing any one want to start it?

I'm going to say that I enjoyed reading Eragon and Eldest when they first came out and hope to finish the series cause I want to see how Paolini ends it. The movie was b rate in my opinion. Though I and my mother loved Saphira. I say redo the movie but leave Saphira the way she is.

Now one thing that really struck me when I read it a second time after picking up The Dragon Riders of Pern series is that Eragon is too much like the Dragon Riders of Pern. I hope that when he finishes the series and starts another and it happens to be a fantasy that he steer clear of cliches or try not to have too many.

David Clement-Davies author of Firebringer, The Sight, and Fell, has written these three books close enough to be exactly alike Watership Down but still have his own originality to them to keep them from being cheap knock offs of Watership Down. Which Eragon is. Which is why I love all three so much because they are written with talking animals (I have a thing for talking animals) as main characters and there is so much made up lore of the animals heritage that it almost makes you think what they would believe in if animals could talk and had a mind to record their history, not to mention the details heart .

Sorry for the long explanation but wanted to prove my point on why it's a cheap knock off. Though I really think Paolini could have waited to improve his imagination before writing this series.

It is a complete knock off from the Belgariad also, and it doesn't surprise me that it is a knock off of The Dragon Riders of Pern. Anne herself likes The Inheritance books. Most authors start their books off knocking off someone else. It is how it works. Most books I have read have been knock off of The Lord of the Rings. haha. But, in any case, I am a fan of Eragon, despite being a knock off.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 27, 2007 7:27 pm

Well I'm not a big of a fan of it than I used to be and I know what your saying that most books have been knock offs of other books, but for once I want a decent enough young author who can come up with his own story line without borrowing so much from other books or series. Reason I said young authors because it seems to me that most of the time it's a young author that does this stuff, and I'm not talking a 25 year old I'm talking about younger than a 25 year old.

Sorry if it sounded a little blunt but I just have gotten used to being blunt when proving a point.

lol I agree there were SOOO many differences...

Anyway I thought the book was okay. I mean it was boring at some parts and exciting at others. When I read the Deathly Hallows I flashed back to this book XD But like I said, it was okay but I've read better. And Eldest was a bit better...
