I guess some of you must've heard of His Dark Materials. Or, at least, some must've seen the trailer of 'The Golden Compass', an upcoming film of New Line Cinema. The first I saw that trailer, I wanted to kill whoever renamed the first book of HDM, Northern Lights, and released it in America under the same name of the movie. BUT I'M NOT HERE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT. Lanzer Hello again everyone! We just got an agreement to have a Golden Compass sponsorship event with New Line Cinema! We're planning out the details now, and will announce it in the next few weeks. I'm really looking forward to the movie, and the event! blaugh Thank you for bringing the movie to our attention. -Lanzer Kiyomizu From New Line Cinema will come a new fantasy film, one based on a great book called The Golden Compass. The film stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.
"It is the Alethiometer. It tells the truth. As for how to read it, you'll have to learn by yourself."

I'd love to see our Dæmons next to our avatars, to show our true souls.
One great movie I look forward to watching and I hope Gaia gets an offer to provide this promotion with our own Dæmons.
By the way, my Dæmon is a female hare called Anexa. heart
Edit: The Golden Compass is based on the first book of His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. The books have been awarded with by prestigious literary organizations and this year it has been named one of the top ten most important children's novel in 70 years.
The original title of the first book and which this topic is based on is called Northern Lights. The American name for this book is called The Golden Compass thus hopefully this won't confuse readers about the same book with a different region title.
Lanzer I can certainly ask about the movie. Sounds like something fun to have as an event. smile I love those books, and I certainly want to see what they'll do for it's release. I can't wait! whee

That sounds like it'll be pretty cool.
Maybe we'll be able to turn our avatar into a GIANT ARMORED POLAR BEAR as a reward.
...
Yeah, we'll have to wait and see whee

Oh! And if you go to the homepage of the Golden Compass, you can take a quiz and "meet your daemon" whee
Edit: My daemon's name is Brynn, and he's an ermine.

That's actually pretty awesome.
The item will probably just be a golden compass... or at least the first item will be.
Anyways, I've really been looking forward to this movie, even though I actually haven't seen a single damn preview for it. XD Which is practically unheard of since I'm the projectionist at a theatre.
But I could see us getting 2 or 3 items, and they probably will be pretty cool.
BTW, despite how annoying the Bee movie quests were, the movie isn't half bad. Really funny in some parts with an amount of adult humor I wouldn't have expected.
The ending is godawful though... I mean really really takes a LOT of suspension of disbelief to live with the ending. Still pretty funny.

Ah, I love it how Gaia is supporting anti-Christianity movies. neutral
You know right that The Golden Compass is going to target all Christianity religions. Thus the reason why a few Catholic Groups are boycotting the movie(Along w/ other Christian groups) and the author. The book also spreads atheistic views of the Church/Christianity. So, its mostly the first child book that is spreading atheism around.
Anywho, movie seems good. But I'm only curious on how its anti-Christianity. So, I'll probably see it due to that fact. xP

I also don't think it's anti-christianity. People are so retarded. It's fiction, and clearly fiction no need to get worked up over a piece of fiction.

*sigh*
The book isn't anti-christianity and even if it were it's still the expression of a view.
America (where the film is apparently only showing at the moment damnit gonk ) is a free country, you can say and do whatever you want to a degree and you can express your thoughts and views as long as you're not breaking the law doing so.
Even if this film was packed with Atheist propaganda, as long as they aren't killing people it's fine.
Stupid Stick-sitting stuck-up Catholics! I know plenty of friendly and happy Christians who can get so stuck-up and wound up about stupid things like this and to be honest it's a load of rubbish and I pretty much ignore them now.
If these Catholics are going to boycott the film, good, then I won't have to sit next to them as they complain at some insignificant detail.

It really pisses me off how christian groups label fiction as "against the church" ... It's dumb. I don't think the devil is going to try to get our soul through a silly story some guy made up for entertainment. If that were true, veggie tales be the devil.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Clearly people weren't taught to do what they should, seperate fact and fiction. A fiction book is not where I would get my religious views. Parents concerned that the book or movie might brainwash thier children really just need to sit down and explain the them it is made up. My mother explained this to me as a child, and I never had problems. I am not a christian for different reasons, but reading something like harry Potter will not make me a devil worshiper, or reading the His Dark Materials series will not make me an athiest. Of course, I don't want to start an argument. Please take this as my opinion, equally valid as anyone else's.
