    User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.I've always wondered... How exactly do you pronounce their names? emo
PostPosted: Sat Oct 27, 2007 1:04 pm

I think it's....
Ruki = Roo-kee
Reita = Ray-ta
Kai = Ky [like sky without the "s"]
Aoi = Ow-ee
Uruha = I think it's like oo-roo-ha. xD;; But someone can correct me on that one.

I thought it was pronounced A-o-ee

I'm not sure..
I just thought it was that since the a and o would make an "ow" sound. n.n;

And remember that the "r" in Japanese isn't the same as in English. It's more a blend between the sound that "l" and "r" makes. I don't know how to say to pronounce this sound though... sweatdrop
It's like you roll your tounge to say "l" but you then try to say "rrr"?? xDD

Both the "ao", and "l-r" things confuse me.

I've heard Nao's name said both ways.

In Japanese,

u = an 'ooo' sound

i = an 'eee' sound

e = an 'eh' sound

a = an 'ah' sound

o = an 'oh' sound

And the r l thing, try to say in somewhere in between an r and an l.

"r"s and "l"s in any language are always the hardest sounds to master. xP It seems to me the Japanese don't even know how to pronounce their own "r" sound. I've heard about three different interpretations of it in songs. >.O Well, maybe they just don't know how to sing it?

As far as the "ao" sound goes... It's a combination of "ah" and "oh", which when you say it together like that, it does sound like "ow".

Yeah, I think the reason why it gets confuzing is that sometimes they pronounce it fast and something they don't. Especially whenit's the same word in songs and conversations. Like "aishiteru" in songs is usually emphasizing each sound (like a-i-shi-te-ru), but when they talk, it's clumped together more (like ai-shite-ru).

Sorry, I'm really bad at explaining things...but i tried. I think these things are easier to explain to people if they can hear how you pronounce things. I hope I haven't confused anyone more... sweatdrop

The only reason I know all this is because I've been an anime fan for so long. xD;;

That's exactly it. And isn't "kudasai" pronounced ku-da-sai? But in songs Gackt pronounces it ku-du-sa-i.

I thought it was "Ku-de-sai" >.<
