Model of a Difference Engine

I thought this looked pretty cool. Yeah, it might not be as fast or as economical as our modern day computers, yet it was certainly an incredible innovation and ahead of it's time. The moving parts seem almost hypnotic.

I remember my Calc II teacher mentioning difference engines. Never imagined it would look like that though! D:

I'm certainly impressed.

I would have liked to see it made of brass though *eyes go all dreamy*

That gave me a sanity ache. xd
Hypnotically odd/awesome. The sort of thing that'd be built in to the walls of a science museum lobby or something like that and people'd be transfixed by it all day but then some little kid'd have no idea what it was and stick his finger in it and get it crushed off and they'd have to take the difference engine away.

Huh. That was kind of cool. VERY hypnotic, and I wish it was a longer video.

It's so beautiful... @.@

There's one point where it's zoomed out a bit, and it looks somewhat like a dance. I love it. whee

That is rather fantastic, isn't it? Sort of like a huge, semi-automated abacus. heart

I wonder if they can actually make them smaller. It would have been a very wonderful machine if it ever went mainstream during its time.

Charles Babbage is a waste of a coffin sir!

Excuse me, Mister Deaming but if we ever do something stupid to ruin the Computer Age, then this waste of a coffin may be the quickest thing to use or we may go back to the simple art of the abacus and the human mind to solve high problems...

it'd be interesting if nanotechnology came sooner if they used the difference engine during it's time.
