I've heard quite a few times that doom has a lot of Christianity related stuff, but I've only heard one band that is technically Christian (Place of Skulls). I know Trouble have quite a few Christian references, but they aren't a Christian band. So other than that, a few references here and there (Penance for example), and that I've seen a lot of bands wearing crosses or taking pictures with a cross in it, I really don't see a correlation.
Am I missing something? Or is it just saying that a lot of people in doom are Christians?

Some of them are in an unorthodox way (Virgin Black, for example) but yeah, I think there's a bit of everything in every genre.
I have to listen to some Christian Doom band yet though. I am recently getting into the genre throroughly.

A lot of lyrics have to do with Christianity or spirituality in one way or another. Of course it depends on the band and the person who writes the lyrics, take Solitude Aeternus(I think it was them, i could be wrong). The first album or so was pretty heavy into Christianity, not so much like "Yay God" as it was just dealing with it as a whole. They got a new singer, the singer hates Christianity and they no longer deal with it, or if they do it isn't in a positive way.

Candlemass had a different singer on their first album, but they didn't sing about Christianity.

The only doom band I know that's against Christianity is Grand Magus, but uhh.. they seemed to be pretty against it from the get-go. Badass band, though. domokun
But yeah, to get a little more on topic. I think you hear more references to spirituality than one specific religion, usually using spirituality to better one's self or to seek atonement and forgiveness or something like that. Or if it's like "God Wills It" by The Gates of Slumber it's just unbiased observation of history.

As for the topic on a whole I agree with what The War Starter said.

She said the band had their first album about Christianity, but Candlemass' first album was mostly about magic/mythic type stuff (Crystal Ball, Demon's Gate, A Sorcerer's Pledge, etc)

Yes we must find this band. So I am guessing since she thought it was Candlemass its safe to say that it is of the genre Epic Traditional Doom.

Uhh.. Count Raven, maybe? I don't know. Maybe Trouble, too? I'm not sure about them, but I don't really listen to Trouble much at all.
