Some things that have been said by the BBC
1. Kathrine Tate will return as the new companion.
2. Freema Agyeman will return later next series after appearing in Torchwood.
3. Joan Collins is set to play the Rani (which miffed Kate O'Mara somewhat)

I knew she would. Was there a competition on who was going to get it?
With all these time lords turning up. I'm now wondering if Susan is out there somewhere.

" Near the end of the 2007 series finale "Last of the Time Lords", a female hand with red nail polish is seen picking up the Master's ring. In the podcast commentary of the episode, Russell T. Davies jokingly refers to it as "the hand of the Rani", and also states that they will not be picking up on that scene next year — he just put it in there to give any future production teams something to use if they want to bring back the Master."
But still, you never know, she might come back...
As for Tate, just... bleargh, she was ok for the christmas special but I'm going to get really really really (really) sick of her as a companion.
And Martha in Torchwood, ... that could turn out pretty cool actually. She'd fit in pretty well there.

I know what you mean about Tate, ok in small doses, but annoying as hell after a while.

I thought the Comic Relief special with David Tennant and Catherine Tate was very funny so I'm hoping she'll be better as a show regular than she was in the Christmas special. I thought the plot for last year's Christmas special was... not that great. Also, I thought the hand picking up the ring in LotTL was Lucy, because she was also wearing red. (I read an interesting fanfic where Lucy turned out to actually be the Rani, but really I think her character is best as it is, just being a human, and that seems a unlikely thing to happen in the show...) Although Donna is not as cool as Martha, Martha will continue in the Whoniverse, and I'm really looking forward to season 4.

I really don't want Catherine Tate to be the new assistant ;_; She's too fake. I want somebody who plays the part naturally, or just well.... meh. You never really get exactly what you want without any hardships nowadays.
The Rani...now THAT will be interesting :3 I heard about it ages ago, but I'm really looking forward to it now! ;D

Not to sure on the Rani part, I mean they are (confirmed by the BBC) the Sontarns will return and Davros or the Rani will presumebly return mrgreen

You know. It is possible that Tate's character will rub off on you all. Besides, with the emotional roller coaster the Doctor has been through all last season it would be good for him to have a companion that's not likely to get emotionally attached.
