First of all - artefacts or artifacts? I prefer an "i" for reasons I can't quite comprehend. o3o

So, I was wondering what kind of magickal objects you guys own, stole, made, want, are looking to create... that kind of thing. Just a selection of your most favourite toys from your occult toybox pls. :3

To start off, I've only got a couple of objects I consider really "magickal", and I made'em myself. I've got:

Archetype tarot deck, made from about fifty Glasgow Subway tickets. I don't use them terribly often (still using Waite right now), but I love'em so much. Basically, each card has written on it the name of an archetype or stereotypical figure (the Lady in Luxury, the Blind Prophet, the Warrior, the One Night Stand), each of which has a "positive" meaning (the Lady of Luxury is an indicator of comfort...), and a "negative" meaning (...but she warns against becoming /too/ comfortable, as it makes you lazy and lethargic.) Still haven't finished the whole deck, though.

Pocketwatch, which I've used twice so far - once in a ritual trying to summon the Goetic demon Phenex (which sadly failed) and once to make all the little details in my trip to the US go "like clockwork", which was fitting, since it's a clockwork watch. =D

Spirit Anchor, which is one of those wee artists mannekins. On the base, there's a drawing of Metatron's Cube, and the arms of the thing have been bound up. I've only used it once, during the aforementioned Goetic working, to bind Other Entities til I'm finished doing whatever.

There's a bunch of stuff I really /want/ to use in magick, but I can't find a use for -- I've got a glass head that I've named Orpheus (Sandman readers may cheer), several african masks, a number of blank notebooks and egyptian statues, none of which I can think up a good use for. Suggestions are encouraged.

So, discuss:
-- Magickal artifacts you own or owned, have made, want, etc.

I can't be arsed editing first post and making it longer than it needs to be, but I thought I'd mention this other really neat sounding artifact that the author "Seth" describes in his book "Tactical Magick" (look for it on Amazon, it's an amazing read).

Seth
"The Eloigning Clock is a gateway and a key to that gateway. Its physical component is actually a painting, though one with a complex background. The Clock exists not only on the physical plane but also in the subtle realms beyond. Though in this world simply a painting, its cadaver is an ever moving spherical body of concave silver plates that oscillate around a centerpeice of smoky quartz, which has been polished and shaped into a sphere. Crescent shaped pendulums swing in opposite directions from two opposite ends of the sphere, attached by tight and thin wires to the core of the sphere. The user connects with the Clock's subtle body through focusing upon the painting. Once a connection has been established with the subtle body of the Eloigning Clock, the painting of course being the artist's physical representation of that subtle body, the user can interface with the Clock. The machine is capable of functioning as a device for scrying into the subtle realm as well as acting as a waypoint for the user undertaking next-level travel into the subtle realms of the universe."

I stress again: Get this book.

Pageantry

PostPosted: Wed Aug 29, 2007 11:26 am

I say artifacts. It looks like a nicer spelling to me for whatever reason.

For reasons I'm really not sure of, I've actually been wanting to get my hands on a nice wand and/or a stave. No real idea why, since I really am not into spellwork or anything.

I have this stone sphere that was given to me a little while ago by my parents. I'm not sure what type of stone it is, but it reminds me of the planet Jupiter and I love it to pieces. I hope to one day figure out how scry with it.

I also have a chunk of Malachite and what I assume to be Black Kyanite(or quite possibly raw Magnetite or something) It looks like a Raven's feathers. I think those two stones are the two I'd feel were the most powerful of the miscellaneous crystals and semi-precious stones I've got kicking around. Though, the fact that they are about the size of my palm and are the two largest stones I have might well play a role in that. sweatdrop

I've always loved the idea of magical objects. I'm a lover of trinkets, statues, little curiosities and not-so little ones. DnD sourcebooks supplied me with tons of "magical artifacts" to think about. Sure, they're fictional, but a common idea around here is that reality is just a paradigm. If I wished for any artifacts of my own, it'd probably be straight out of one of those ideas. Get me a Bag of Holding or Helm of Telepathy, heh. Better yet, a Golem Manual.

Likewise here. I'm totally gay for artifacts from RPGs, particularly ones from the oft-mentioned-by-me Unknown Armies game. I mean, come on, "Police Line Do Not Cross" tape that can be used to bind demons? A Barbie doll that cries when it's near a magick user? A CD that causes synesthesia in the listener? Yes pls. =o

*chuckles* Ah, toys. Toys are fun. 4laugh

Let's see, I have a ton of rocks (from when I was a kid somewhat into geology before I found better uses for them), some nifty shells, plenty of candles in various shapes and scents, a few Tarot decks, a couple sets of runes, a tambourine, a crystal flute (okay, I think it's glass, but it's see through), a bamboo flute (made that one smile ), a drum from Peru (tiny, would never use it in a circle), a set of chimes, a tiny wand I found randomly in a Chicago store...

that doesn't count some of my jewelry. I'd love to learn to make some things. I don't trust myself enough for metallurgy, but maybe carving something, or putting together a wand, etc. My flute was made at a music festival; I think I still have a burn mark on my thumb from making the holes...

im not very skilled in makeing magickal anythign. lol. the only things ive done that could be considered 'magickal' are putting my energy into a necklace. i would love to make little trinkets that do diffrent things (like make a dragon statue from 'path of a patriarch' that if you dont use the right color word it does some crazy s**t biggrin ). realy though, the only use in the necklace is to store a vast amount of my energy for when i realy need it.... and i gave it to my girlfriend..... so im thinkin of makeing a second one... thats about it.

PS: i love artifacts. i have a magick the gathering monster that gives me one hitpoint every time an artifact comes into play. xd

I'm not sure if it counts, but I've got two Luckstones, as I call them. Duno what kind of stone they are, but one is engraved with a canine paw and the other with a wolf. ^_^ I duno if they actually work or if I'm just fooling myself though. >_<

They basically work by sucking up all the normal everyday luck that I would normally be having, and store it. Then, when I really feel like I need to be lucky, I try and draw it out. So far they've been really useful and they Seem to work.

Examples, Umm... Well, I used them one time during a pen and paper RPG to get about two thirds of the way to possibly knocking out a demigod with my low level character.

I also used them when going in to get a Wii before christmas. Got it, and it was the second to last one too. ^_^

My friend had an artifact deck that destroyed my entire life, cause they all had that irritating ability where they die and transfer their Strength and Defense points to another artifact character (Modular, I think it's called? >.>)

^-^ Glad I can be helpful!

EDIT: Following the Magic theme, they're like mana stones, but for luck. XD

Oh, Jesus, I had so much fun playing with a modular deck. You feel like a frigging zombie that never dies. But, anyway.

I don't have too much in the way of magical artifacts. I have a glass jar of ashes, burnt from books and writing I've done magically, but I think that might count more as magical fuel of some sort. Haven't decided what to do with it yet.

Oh, I know one. I was playing outside and accidentally turned a drumstick into a sound magic wand. I picked it up later and compared it to the other, and it felt completely different, so I thought that was cool.

Other than that, I can't think of anything, other than old metal washers me and my friends collect, having found they sometimes give special properties of vision and energy, usually being attuned to some method of energy or element. Don't ask me why.

I WANT YOUR POCKETWATCH! scream

Seriously. I've been looking for a clockwork one for a while now. I can be a little too obsessive with time and theories.

Anyway...I'm a taurus, and live up to the stereotype of loving lots of trappings. I have around 300 stones ranging from quarter sized, to ones larger than my hand; and this is after I weeded out a good 75 of them. My favourites right now are my Angelite, Chaorite, a Mystery Stone, Citrine Druze, and Lapis Lazuli.

I also have three Tarot decks and four Oracle decks.

Several candles and essential oils, as well as herbs and incense even though I seem to be mildly allergic to both white sage and most incense.

Plus my books which I have to weed out monthly, I accumulate them so fast. As well as several angel statues.

Well... actually, I have a box of things that I put stuff along these lines in. I don't know if these things are magic in some way... but... here's a list.

*thunks the box on his lap*

Ho boy is this thing heavy!! gonk

Let's see though:
Books
The Book of the DRAGON by Allen/Griffiths
Mysteries of the Unknown by the editors of Time Life Books
Monsters by John Michael Greer
The Magic of Shapeshifting by Rosalyn Greene
Shape Shifting by John Perkins
Nasty Feng Shui by Lottie Anderson
a gift of Positive Thinking by Farrer Halls
Proverbs and Sayings of Ireland by Séan Gaffney and Seamus Cashman
A Field Guide to Otherkin and Fang and Fur Blood and Bone by Lupa
The Book of Alchemy by Francis Melville
Druid Magic: The Practice of Celtic Wisdom by Maya Magee Sutton, Ph.D and Nicholas R. Mann

As for little other things...
I used to have a thunder bird ring from Mom from Grandma. I however happened to lose it in art class... I think I know where it went, but he isn't saying anything. sad
I have a copper ring I bought recently...
I've had this one necklace that has a bone on it... I don't know what kind of bone it is, but it's on a leather band. Then, I have a glass triangle that my friend from elementary school gave to me. I haven't seen him really since then.
I have a staff with a coyote on top of it... coyote skull. (Sorry for the coyote... but... yeah. sweatdrop ) It's from Mom, and at the time she got that I got a small walking stick that was my size then. I'm so much taller than it now.

I've got various glass things, bottles, a crystal ball, and marbles.
I've also got an hourglass on my desk...
Oh, and little glass aquarium things. I wanted to make a Go board for it on like a thing of leather or strong cloth...

Ocarina with a dragon on it, from Mom. A cigar lock box with various things in it... um...

I've also got some meditation/chime balls that you twirl in your hand. I like them... although it seems like the finish is coming off or something because I used them so much. It also seems to make everyone else uneasy when I'm using them, so...

I also own two sets of runes (one clay the other wood?), a set of divination sticks I haven't touched, and then a deck of Tarot cards with a dragon theme to them.

I realize I collect just... odds and ends.
Among other things I've collected those film canisters which I got an explosion of them from Photography, and then I also collect the little information papers that are in Japanese from work that come in the light bulbs, and I also have a weird note on that matter... might just be packaging information, but it's not in English anyway.
I also collected my cats whiskers when I found them. It's weird but it's what I do. sweatdrop

Edit: I also forgot... I made a little paper magnet with a dragon drawn on it and inked, just a simple thing. Also, I have two bags with dragons on them, a set of assorted dice, and what Mom said was my grandfather's work undershirt. It's clean of course... but she gave it to me thinking I needed it... I keep it because he isn't here anymore. sad

Another Edit: I just realized again that I forgot something...
It's... odd... I know, and it doesn't help that everyone might perceive the passing of time at different rates, but for the longest time at my previous job someone was joking that he said I could make time go faster or slower, because of some Zodiac 2 I have.
Granted... it's not made anymore, but I only find it odd that not only is it not made anymore, but the company itself has disappeared as well.
On another note, concerning time... anytime I have a watch with me there are times that it just feels like time is going slower, as in I think it's later on, but it's like ten to thirty minutes before what time I believe it to be. And... it seems the faster I do something at a controllable rate, the slower time seems to go. Of course it's too much to assume that I
am somehow slowing down time... but whatever.
I started to notice this actually when I first got a pocket watch. Now, I carry a stop watch I purchased from Radio Shack. Again, I simply don't know and probably the "best" explanation is that it's my perceiving of time itself, and I'm not doing anything to it.

hm, I have two decks of tarot cards, a special mecanical pencil, a pink thing with the mark of the pantheon of N on it, a piece of amber, a sword I made out of a popsicle stick, and string and a bit of clay for the hilt, a forest of white oragami trees I made, more mica than any one person should have (in several colors), more light blue string like what the sword has. Also I have a bunch of cool rocks, and a neckless that some guy in D.C. gave me when I donated to his thing I put an oragami crane that I colored black on it and several books. I keep all that stuff (exept for one of the tarot decks and the books) in a cigar bok that I got for Christmas.

Now, as for stuff that I wish I had, I have to agree Subrosian dnd magical artifacts are awsome, but as for what you listed... well, personaly I never have liked the bag of holding... portable holes are way cooler, and I would love to have a codex of the infinet planes, even though I probably never read it twisted . And a ring of nine facets would be pretty usefull... ninja

But on a more realistic level, I would like to have any of my magicky things actualy work... emo

Im Nick
