and everyone likes to post their horror stories which supposedly are true and have happened in real life, things like "omg I saw a trash bag floating in midair wtf do I do" to which, invariably, the responses are "maybe the ghost is trying to [whatever]"
Now as a skeptic, I get a little frustrated when people automatically assume there are ghosts involved. I even saw one thread where someone described sleep paralysis, a very common occurrence that has been explained scientifically. Nevertheless, people keep attributing their 'experiences' to supernatural phenomena.
Is the only reason I haven't experienced any weird s**t because I'm a skeptic? Or does it happen to me regularly, and I know that ghosts aren't behind it?

Weird s**t happens to me on a constant basis. A lot of it is so commonplace, you forget how weird it is. For example, you know the feeling you get when it feels like you're falling out of bed right as you're settling into sleep, then your body jerks and you're wide awake again? I forget what the technical term is, but it happens to me every once in a while. I still think it's weird as hell.
Another good example is this: How many times have you heard an odd noise, and disregarded it as being nothing? There's a lot of things you'll never see answered in your lifetime, but I think it's ultimately the inquisitiveness of the person in question that determines just how much does actually get answered.

I think the belief in such superstitions comes from an imbalance in one's curiosity and one's inquisitivenesses (the desire to find answers). High curiosity with low desire for answers creates simple answers that are irrational, where we three would most likely be considered high curiosity and high inquisitiveness.
I'd say the average agnostic or loosely religious person has low scores in both of these.
I suppose a low curiosity and high inquisitiveness leads to things like mathematicians. XD

Wow, good thing you two replied to this, because I was gonna invite you guys to join the guild with me and try to shoot down any claims of the paranormal happening, albeit in an orderly, friendly manner. What do you say?

It seems to me that these people instantly dismiss any possible natural cause, and that leads them irrevocably towards a paranormal explanation.
Why they reject the natural I do not know, but they make the baby William of Occam cry sad

You know, normally I'd disagree with you, if I hadn't read firsthand their replies... yeah, I'd say you hit it spot on sad

Well, remember, this is a horror guild. It's fun to pretend, so play along a bit. After all, it's not forcing beliefs on anyone, or setting people on fire for not agreeing with them.

Noooo, this is beyond pretending. These people full-on believe there are ghosts. In a poll, I was the only person who chose "there is no such thing as ghosts." 4 people said yes, and 2 people chose the gold option.

OK someone's gotta help me out because this is pissing me off. Quote: From what I've seen of your posts in this guild, Baron, you are too skeptical. Paranormal activities are more likely to happen in the presence of a believer rather than a skeptic. This is most likely because the believer has an open mind, and is receptive to the phenominon. Too skeptical? Not when it comes to the paranormal. And what the ******** does that mean, it only happens in the presence of a believer? Well, I'm not doubting that talk2hand I believe that they believe it's real.
