please dont bash me for this, but assume with an open mind that god is real i will state only the first verse of the old testment
in the beginning created (everything AS IS and will always will be) the hevens and the earth (meaning the universe and the planet earth) the earth was barren of life (well, no life while it was being created, makes sense) and the earth was covered in a sea of darkness (earth was a shallow super sea and it was dark, possable?) and god was moving over the sea (not like flying, but looking, and watching)
note: "day" is not 24 hours

The text can be interpreted to fit in with the scientifically determined history of the universe, yes. It is vague enough, afterall.
But That still doesn't mean it is correct.

Most of the Old Testament (I don't know about the new) were metaphors to help the Jews fight against some kind of tyranny.
