Filix sighed, and reached up to pick the bits of stick still left in his hair. Oddly enough, she saw him as a brother now and the last thing she wanted to hear was her title. That alone was a good sign of a lie.

"I thought not." She gave up trying to fix his antlers, and prodded at a book. "You know, we're going to go get her. And she'll be fine... find anything you could use to torture them with yet?"

His gaze drifed upward as he watched Filix take out the remainder of branch in his hair and shook his head. He had thought he had gotten all of that out. "Thank you." he told her.

"And no." He lowered his head some, almost as if ashamed, "I don't think I could bring myself to harm them. Not even after what they have done and could be doing to my--I mean Lady Muris." He began shaking his head as he continued, "Sadly, I still feel bad about impaling the woman even though it was an accident."

He pointed to a book laying open on the floor by his feet, "I did however find a poison that is quite effective for getting rid of a spider infestation problem."

"That's nothing bad, it just means that you're a very soft hearted man, nothing to be ashamed of." Filix choose to ignore the 'my' part, although she was starting to connect a few dots in her head... "Besides, I'm sure she'll heal. They've probably got a form of black magic to heal themselves with, or perhaps even they enjoy their own bleeding... That court..."

She realized she wasn't helping, and added, "Good, maybe we can use that in one of the still shut off chambers. Who knows when we'll need it."

Filix went quiet, flipping a book open. She didn't read it though, her mind was quickly working over the details. There had been that chat with Muris, and Filix had let it slip her mind, beliving that if it was her buisness... she'd have been told. But everything was starting to fall into place in her head, and she glanced up at Alces with a new look and a bit of a grin. He and Muris! Muris and him! That was adorable!

With a shrug he figured it might actually be good for getting rid of bugs in unused chambers. "Yes, but I still feel bad. What if she was really hurt?" He suddenly let that thought fall out if his mind as another one popped into his head, "What if they are killing Muris?!"

He was no longer sitting still as before, he was squeezing the end of his tunic like clothing nervously, "There was a Fey with the totem of a cat there. We all know what cats do to mice!" His voice had become louder and more panicked now as he stared at Filix with widened eyes. However, his eyes soon began narrowing at her as he noticed a slight grin on her face and eyed it suspiciously.

"I doubt they are killing Muris," Because they need to torture her for information, her mind added darkly as Filix's grin faded, "and I've heard that all a mouse has to do is bite a cat's nose, and the cat won't go near a mouse again. I'm sure she'll be alive by the time we get there. And I know she's alive now, she's a strong woman."

Filix's grin returned slightly though, and she added, "May I ask you a question, Alces, a personal one?"

Alces was slowly beginning to calm down once more, "Yes, yes you're right. She is a strong woman." He let out a sigh as he exhaled after holding his breath for a while. Leaning over, he shut a few more books that he was done with and was stacking them for something to do to take his mind off of the matters at hand.

By the time Filix has asked if she could ask him something he had became rather calm, or at least not all panicky anymore. That soon changed though, and he sat up slowly in the chair and replied, "Maybe..."

"Maybe we can find a spell or something to stun, nothing that'll hurt them. Just keep them down long enough to get her out." Filix picked up another book, and started to flip through the pages. As she did, she tried to figure out how to word this. It was a bit of a delicate subject, after all, even if Filix was sure. "How close are you to Muris?"

He liked the sound of that idea. That way both sides would 'win' in a sense, or at least not get hurt, or as hurt as they could get. He nodded in agreement and went to pick up another random book off the floor and was about to open that when the last words hit his ears.

At first he looked as though he was about to have another little 'panic attack' but he somehow managed to remain still and not fidget. He moved only his eyes so they were looking at Filix as he coughed nervously. Alces wasn't sure if he should tell her, or if Muris didn't mind if anyone else knew and all sorts of things along those lines. When he did speak again it was almost too quietly for even himself to hear, "I don't know." That of course, was partially a lie...

'I don't know' didn't really put her off, and Filix leaned over to pat his shoulder slightly. She didn't believe him, not at all. Filix started to tell him, "It's just, I know that whenever I see her... she always lights up when there's something to do with you, or if she sees you. It almost would make one think you two are courting in secret..."

She had, of course, just made half of that up. Filix hadn't talked to Muris since the stables, and only seen her briefly at the ball and at the meeting. But still, it was something she was sure of, having seen a slight bit of it those few times. And besides, Filix knew all about courting without telling anyone.

Looking quite nervous and alarmed of her catching on, Alces moved away from her as he saw her hand coming toward him. After a moment of silence from him, he turned to face her, his usual happy bright gleam in his eyes had faded and he looked even more serious than he had when she first entered the library. "I--I don't think you are supposed to know...about that." He told her quietly, "I suppose...we...have been courting for a while now without ever actually...mentioning that word." Alces confided in her before his expression changed again to an even more serious one if that was possible, "You can't tell anyone! Ever! At least not yet. Not even her, since I don't...think I was supposed to say all of that just now." He told her in a harsh whisper.

"I only know because of things Muris told me, without saying names or when or where... and things I've picked up from you, things I've learnt from experiencing." Filix replied, nodding. She was just as serious, as she added, "It's all right, I'll keep it to myself. I'm happy for you both though."

After a few moments, she glanced around and added, "And it's only right that I confide in you a secret that you keep in exchange... at least, it's not something we've told anyone. So please don't? But you're both not the only two courting secretly... Aesculus and I have been, for a short time. It's why I knew the signs."

Filix went to open another book on defensive spells, as casually as if she'd just said 'The sky is blue today'.

Alces was looking at Filix rather oddly now, he hadn't seen that coming. In fact, he hadn't even realized that the two of them even spoke to eachother often; not only that, but she had said it as if it was something that was as common as talking about a book. After staring for a while longer he just nodded, satisfied that she would keep his secret, and so, he would keep hers, "...O..Okay...I won't tell anyone about that."

Despite the fact he now had a secret in exchange for his, he still seemed a bit unnerved about having told someone about this. That and he was tired, hungry, sore, and sad that Muris was still missing. "I think I should go rest." he said slowly, standing up and stretching his legs, "Goodbye Countess." He gave her a slight respectful bow as he left, looking back at her once he had arrived at the doorway to make sure she would keep her word and not tell anyone, before turning the corner and heading toward his chamber to go have another 'panic attack' and sleep.

"Thankyou." Filix answered, and stood up when he stood. "Rest well, all right? And see Ursa, she might have something to help you relax during this stressful time."

That was something she should have done, Filix scolded herself as she waved when he left. .Then she went out, heading off to find somewhere quieter to think.

Lutra had explored every inch of her room, and there was nothing else to do. She'd have to go out and see what happened, find someone real. And she'd just have to hope that the few voices she'd heard belonged to good fey. Wandering the halls, she found herself outside the library. Books were comforting; she remembered people reading to her, stories about adventure where good always won. She hoped that was true now as she pushed open the door and walked in, running her fingers along the rows of books. She pulled one off the shelf and coughed at the dust, dropping it, then belatedly looked around to see if anyone else was there.

By the time Lutra had glanced around. Ursa had already burst in, row by row she scanned book by book. Picking up one or two from every row, most on health, medicines and herbal stuff; all the things she was interested in, already by this stage she knew most of it, but there were certain things that still amazed her...

She took great pride in making sure they wouldn't be damaged, so after every two or three books, she would put them away on the desk she was about to work on..

Noticing Lutra on one of her trecks to the table, she waved and greeted. "Hello there! I've not seen you around before!" Her smile was gentle.
