Kraven couldn't help but glance away when her companion reported her own status, quietly tapping her foot when her voice went low. Intended or not, she still felt bad for what happened. She was just glad that the redhead didn't end up with a concussion when it all happened, but now that they had time to laugh it off she could feel that twinge of guilt. "Well we can stop and get some while we're out," she quietly replied, shaking her head to clear her thoughts. She couldn't help but chuckle a bit when Phee quickly took on a little more of a teasing tone. "I suppose you've got me there. I think I'd rather be doing the catching, but we're probably a little too short for that." She rolled her eyes a bit when the young woman did clarify how far she was willing to carry her if it really came down to it. "Of course, of course. There's only so long we could hold out before Klaus could come out to snatch us up in his arms. I'd never hear the end of it."
One way or another though, it appeared that both trainers were ready to hit the road. Once the two of them had sorted out payment and gotten up to their feet Kraven was quick to gather her things before they marched out the door. She looked to her companion when she laid out a rough plan for the rest of their day. "Sounds good to me~" She gave her arms and legs one more, good stretch before they went on, careful not to agitate the strain from her fall. "Just take all the time you need, Phee. I'm not in any rush." She let one of her arms come down onto the redhead's shoulder, smiling adamantly. She was just as eager to see new areas in the region, but she seemed more interested in the company than the pace.

☆ ☆【Phoenix felt a warm contentment settle over her as they polished off the last of their meals, already feeling worlds better now that she had a full stomach. Kraven certainly shared that same sentiment as she was happy to announce, which the redhead was more than happy for. At the very least it made up for the strangeness of what had happened earlier back in the forest, though that twinge of soreness in the back of her head still from where it had hit the ground continued to persist a little. Granted it was more of an annoyance than anything, and it was hardly anything that some good rest and maybe some painkillers wouldn’t be able to take care of. A slight frown crossed Phoenix’s face as her companion looked away momentarily, quietly suggesting that they could stop to grab some aspirin or something while they were out and about. It hadn’t been her intention to make her companion feel guilty, after all what had happened hadn’t entirely been her fault… Still, at the very least the outcome could’ve been much worse. Nevertheless, Phoenix twiddled her fingers as she simply gave a nod in response to her friend’s suggestion, perking up somewhat when the subject was changed.
She smiled at Kraven’s amusement to her light teasing, saying that she certainly hit the mark on that and suggesting that she’d probably want to be the one doing the catching. It was a little too late for that, of course. ”True, I’d be willing to bet you would’ve had a much easier time of it if it’d been the other way around,” Phoenix said with a hum and a soft chuckle. At her further clarification, the ebony haired lass rolled her eyes as she remarked that there would only be so long for them to hold out on their own before Klaus would come to their rescue. ”Yeah, no kidding,” she murmured in agreement, at the very least she would prefer to not have to rely on Klaus if it could be helped. Speaking of, she should probably let him back out of his ball sometime soon, hopefully by now he was feeling better after… whatever had been going on with him earlier. That could wait, though, and a bit more rest would certainly do him some good. If he wanted to come back out again at any time he’d probably just let himself out whenever anyways. In the meantime, Phoenix supposed it wouldn’t be a bad idea to share some more one-on-one time with her new friend.
Once the bill and the tip were taken care of, she was more than ready to get going as the pair quickly gathered up their things and headed right out the door. While Kraven took a moment to stretch before they kept going, Phoenix laid out a tentative plan for the rest of the day. After spending so much time farting around at Tanabata and missing out on grabbing her first two badges beforehand, she was ready to just get going and hopefully make some new progress before the day’s end came. She smiled and nodded as Kraven happily agreed, the two trainers heading onwards together through the forested route connecting Nacrene and Striation. In spite of her insistence that she’d try not to take too long, her companion assured her that she could take as much time as she needed and that she wasn’t in any real rush. Phoenix bit her lip a little, feeling rosy heat pool into her cheeks at the sudden weight of Kraven’s arm resting upon her shoulder and the bright smile on the other’s face. ”R-right…” she said with a somewhat hesitant nod, offering a small grin in return, ”If you insist at least… I just, you know, don’t want to take up too much time that could go towards actually pushing onwards. We’ve still got a ways to go before we really start getting into the thick of Unova.” She had a feeling that Kraven might like Nimbasa City in particular, in a way it was kind of a sister city to Lumiose and there were plenty of fun places of interest that could be worth checking out between the theater, sports stadium, and the amusement park.
The walk to Striation hardly took long, thankfully, and soon enough the pair found themselves standing in front of the familiar café building that housed the city’s gym. ”Well, here goes nothing, I guess,” Phoenix murmured as she stared up at it, the building seeming strangely imposing in spite of its colorful design and the faint smell of tea and baking pastries wafting from inside. Reaching down to her belt, she grabbed Hanaka’s Pokeball and released the Dewott so that she now stood by her trainer’s side. The little blue otter gave a soft yawn, stretching and scratching at an ear as she gazed curiously at her trainer. ”Hey Hana,” the redhead said with a warm smile, bending down somewhat to be more level with the Dewott, ”We’re getting ready to do our first gym challenge. Think you’ll be fine to handle it yourself?” While it probably wasn’t the best strategy to just let one Pokemon do the fighting in a gym battle, at the very least Hanaka would get more experience that way and get stronger. And she would certainly have to start training up more at some point since she’d be their main counter against Clay and his Ground types when they got to Driftveil.”O-Oh! Um… Y-Yeah, I th-think I c-can d-do it,”the little otter quickly assured, though she didn’t exactly sound confident as she nervously fiddled a bit with one of the scalchops attached to her fur.
Phoenix sighed softly, giving the Dewott’s head a gently encouraging pat. ”Hey, it’s alright if you can’t, I’m sure the others would be glad to lend a hand if you’re struggling,” she assured, ”Just give it your best, okay? I’m sure you’ll do great out there~” Hanaka seemed to relax somewhat at the reminder, remembering how kind Klaus and Fianna had been to her when she was still getting acquainted with her new teammates.”N-No Victoria, r-right?”she asked cautiously, hoping to not have to deal with the bad-tempered, scary demon dog again anytime soon. ”No Victoria, I promise,” the redhead was quick to reassure with a soft chuckle. She’d have to deal with Vicky later anyways when they’d have to start squeezing in some more training for Burgh, but they’d cross that bridge when they got there. The Dewott seemed much more relieved, her tail waving behind her with nervous excitement as she prepared to go in.
”Wish me luck,” the redhead commented with a small smile as she looked to her dark-haired partner, taking a breath before pushing through the doors of the café gym with her starter in tow. Phoenix gave a cursory glance backwards to see if Kraven was coming in too since the fighter had mentioned watching her battles while she took on the gyms. Of course she didn’t mind either way, though the thought of battling in front of her new friend made the redhead a bit more nervous the more she thought about it. As confident as she was that her team was well prepared enough to handle this gym, she couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious at the thought of potentially screwing up badly or otherwise making a complete fool of herself in front of Kraven. She had been so lost in thought that she hadn’t even been paying attention to the lady at the counter calling out to her when she’d entered until she felt a light tug on her jacket from Hanaka, bringing her train of thought to a crashing halt as her eyes focused on the woman who now stood in front of her. ”O-Oh! Aha… sorry about that, I uh… spaced out for a bit there,” she quickly apologized, sheepishly rubbing her hands together as her face flushed with a soft red tint of embarrassment. The lady didn’t seem to mind, only offering a smile in return as she politely waved off the apology.”That’s quite alright, miss. Are you here as a patron or challenger?”she asked, though she seemed to already have an idea of what the answer was as her gaze shifted briefly to the Dewott at the redhead’s side.
”Ah, challenger, and my starter was Oshawott so I’ll be going against Cilan,” Phoenix responded hastily. She could’ve sworn she saw the lady’s eyes glint with a spark of admiration for a moment as her smile grew a bit wider and she nodded in agreement.”Correct, right this way then,”she urged as she pointed towards a green curtain leading into the back. Phoenix gave the lady a nod in thanks, pushing her way through the curtain with Hanaka staying close to her. The green cloth slowly parted to give way to a large restaurant space, numerous patrons and employees bustling about as food was ordered and tea was served. Towards the back of the room on a raised platform stood a trio of men dressed in what looked like waiter’s attire, each with… admittedly very interesting hair styles. Chili was easy to discern with his up-do styled like a raging fire, Cress’s fell across his face in a way that resembled a flowing river, and Cilan’s stood up straight like a patch of short grass. Upon spotting her, Cilan immediately stepped forward, smiling and beckoning for her to approach.
”Salutations, miss, and welcome to the Striation City Gym and Café!”he greeted brightly as the redhead stepped onto the stage, drawing the attention of the other patrons around them as many heads swiveled at the leader’s announcement,”I can already see by the Pokemon you have at your side that you’re a challenger, correct?”Hanaka immediately pressed closer to Phoenix, unsure of how to feel about all of this unexpected attention suddenly being directed their way. The redhead admittedly felt very uncomfortable as well, but she kept her attention directed at Cilan and tried to ignore the stares boring into her back. ”Of course, and Hanaka here,” she said as she gestured towards the Dewott stepping forth to fight, nervously clasping her twin scalchops tight in her paws, ”Was my chosen Pokemon from Professor Juniper. We’re ready to fight if you are.” Cilan nodded affirmatively as he held up a Pokeball, tossing it forth and releasing the small form of a Lillipup. The tiny dog Pokemon barked eagerly, the fur on its face bristling as it took on a battle ready stance.”We most certainly are! Go, Lillipup, start us off with a Bite!”Cilan commanded as he held out a hand towards his Pokemon, the pup baring its teeth as it prepared to launch forward at the Dewott before it.
”Razor Shell, Hanaka!” Phoenix commanded, and with a burst of speed the Dewott darted towards her foe before the Lillipup could charge. Glowing blue ribbons flowed from behind the scalchops in the little otter’s hands as she swung them to and fro. Still being fairly newly evolved and not having done any practice with her new moves, Hanaka’s technique was clearly very sloppy and all over the place, but the attack still struck home hard as the Lillipup staggered backwards from the force of the hit. However it was still going quite strong, and took only a moment to recover before pouncing at the otter now in close range. Hanaka immediately crossed her arms to protect her face and braced herself, wincing as the dog’s teeth scraped against her. Her muscles tensed up as the onslaught continued, finding herself unable to move much to her alarm. She did her best to stay strong and not let her slowly rising panic show through, but at this rate she'd surely be knocked out before she'd have the opportunity get an attack in edgewise. "Return!" Phoenix called out, much to the Dewott's relief.
Quickly Hanaka stepped back well out of range from her opponent, jumping back towards her trainer just as the redhead tossed out another ball. Fianna emerged onto the field in the otter's place, the Braixen yawning and stretching momentarily as if she'd just woken up from a long nap before taking on a fighting position. Almost immediately the Lillipup pounced on her, the fire fox bracing herself and gritting her teeth as she momentarily found herself unable to fight back as its teeth dug into her arms. It only lasted for a fleeting moment, however, as she was able to muster herself up enough to give a forceful shove in return and pushed the pup off of her, causing it to lose its footing for a second or two as it tried to steady itself. That was all Fianna needed as she lunged sharply forward with a crackling fist readied and swung it in a hard arcing uppercut, the attack catching the pup’s chin and sending it flying back a few feet before tumbling a bit of a ways and coming to a full stop just before it fell off the far end of the stage. The Lillipup was clearly down for the count now as it made no move to try and get back up again.”Not bad! Come on back, Lillipup,”Cilan remarked, returning the fainted dog to its ball and tossing out another one to release a green monkey with what looked like a bush growing out of its head,”This is it, Pansage! We need to make this really count now!”
”I-I’ve got th-this, Phee!”the Dewott quickly called out to her trainer, already having an idea of just what to do the moment the Pansage was sent out onto the field. At Phoenix’s nod to continue, Hanaka jumped back onto the field, Fianna giving the otter a warm smile and a supportive pat on the head as they exchanged positions. In spite of being quite weakened, the Dewott was adamant on making up for her earlier mishap against the Lillipup as she stared down the grass monkey that stood across from her. The crown-shaped chunk of ice that sat atop her head glistened with a bright blue light, lending its power to her as she spread her arms wide and swept them forward. With a sudden rush of air and a chilly blast, a torrent of freezing wind and snow rolled through as the Blizzard filled the area around them. To their luck, Hanaka had been just quick enough to be able to outpace the Pansage and get off a devastating attack that caught her opponent utterly off guard, Phoenix and Fianna immediately raising their arms to shield themselves until the Blizzard gradually dissipated. As the harsh chilly air and driving snow finally let up, all present on the battlefield looked up to see the Dewott still standing tall and Cilan’s Pansage collapsed on the ground, fainted and covered in a lingering dusting of snow and ice. Phoenix let out a breath she hadn’t even realized she’d been holding as she took in the sight before them. They had won… They had actually won their first ever gym battle.】☆ ☆

A simple, and graceful, bow was all Cilan gave in response to his last pokemon falling. But, when he finally did pull himself he held, in his hand, a badge. From where? His apron, of course. "Congratulations on your win!" The urge to bow, once again, was a strong one, and there was a visible, conscious effort to not do so. But, that would prolong his dear opponent, and now victor, even further. "My pokemon and I, we gave you a bit of challenge, didn't we? However, you still managed to come out on top! And, for that, I present to you the Trio badge," the gym leader/waiter explained, and as he spoke he lessened the distance between himself and Phoenix. "But! I cannot just leave you with that. So, take these." From the pockets of his neatly pressed, and shockingly white, apron Cilan retrieved a few more items, and with a soft smile offered them to Phoenix.
"Do take care," the gym leader spoke, after handing off the items. "And feel free to stay a bit longer to dine."

The ebon-haired trainer released her companion once they really got on their way, giving Phoenix whatever room she needed until they finally arrived back at the cafe. "It's a good thing we just ate, otherwise I might've melted into the chairs for a bite her," Kraven chuckled, closing her eyes as the earthy scent radiated around the building. She hadn't actually had a chance to sample their food her first time through here, making her wonder briefly if she should've left some room for desert. She put the thought out of her mind though once her redheaded companion sorted out her fighters for the gym battle, following Phee back inside.
"Will do, I don't think you'll need it though." Kraven hoped to reassure her friend, but there was only so much she could do when Phee seemed to fall back into her shell. She couldn't help but worry when she didn't even acknowledge the lady at the counter, but everything seemed to work out once Hanaka brought her back to reality. From there it was almost straight onto the fight proper.
Kraven simply stood close and remained quiet, eager to see her companion in action again. It might even help her to get back in to groove of things, she figured, only giving Phee a few pats on the back for encouragement before the gym battle began.
She hadn't actually noticed all the heads turning when the Gym Leaders called out her first time through. At least a dozen sets of eyes in each corner of the room, and perhaps half as many pairs coming from the employees serving them. For Kraven, it wasn't much of a problem, if anything she welcomed the many gazes that must've settled on her during her own fight... But she had to wonder if it was a bit too much for Phoenix. It didn't seem to stop her from commanding her pokemon as she should, but the raven-haired woman had to wonder if it was all a bit suffocating like this.
But the most she could really do at this point however was simply watch, and hope that her nearby presence might be at least a little calming to her reserved companion. Granted, Kraven didn't consider either that her presence might only compound the pressure, but Phoenix managed to get through with flying colors, so it's fine. Right? "Congrats, Phee. Now just seven more to go."

☆ ☆【With full bellies and a goal to work towards for the day set in mind more or less, the pair took their leave of the diner and set on their way to Striation. As soon as they were on the road, Phoenix felt her companion’s arm withdraw from its position on her shoulder. While the redhead did feel a bit more comfortable once her friend gave her a bit of space, the warmth that still lingered for a few moments longer made her cheeks burn a little. Jeez, was she really so deprived of actual human friends and a social life in general that even just a friendly touch from another person made her feel all flustered? Well, technically yes, yes she was. Taking a deep breath, Phoenix willed the blush to go away as they entered Striation once more and immediately headed for the café gym. A soft laugh left her lips at Kraven’s comments about parking herself here for a bite if they hadn’t already eaten. ”Maybe some other time, the tea and pastries here are really good from what I’ve heard,” she remarked with a small smile, quickly getting her team sorted out before heading inside. While it might not be the best idea to possibly use only Hanaka this time when she had other Pokemon that could use training too, at the very least they could work on getting the Dewott stronger so they’d be more ready to take on Clay when they got to Driftveil.
Phoenix smiled brightly at her ebon-haired companion’s reassuring words, though as they stepped inside the gym itself almost immediately the redhead felt a wave of self-consciousness crash over her. She hadn’t even noticed the lady trying to address her until Hanaka derailed her train of thought and got her back on track, proceeding onwards to the main area in search of the trio of brothers that ran the joint. Thankfully it wasn’t hard at all to spot them, given their pretty unique and wild hairstyles they stuck out like sore thumbs among the other employees and patrons that were milling around. With a few encouraging pats on the back from Kraven, Phoenix took a deep breath and straightened herself as she approached the leaders, or rather Cilan to be more specific. Upon hearing the announcement of the battle, the redhead felt her heart starting to race like a derby Rapidash as numerous pairs of eyes fell upon them. Oh… Oh dear… O-Oh gosh… Her confidence was already becoming increasingly shaky as it was, but knowing that pretty much everyone present was looking at them now was almost too much for her to handle. At the very least having Kraven close by provided some comfort to her that there was a familiar face in the crowd… otherwise Phoenix might’ve just bowed out of the battle and made a beeline for the exit right then and there before her nerves overwhelmed her.
Taking a deep breath, she narrowed her focus to the man with the grass-like hair in front of her as he sent out his Lillipup first, deciding it would be best to just keep her eyes on the battle to take her mind off of all the attention they were getting. She certainly hoped that not all of the gyms would be like this… In the end, Hanaka put up a good fight, but after running into some trouble against Cilan’s Lillipup Phoenix had to briefly bring in Fianna for assistance. And it was definitely good that she did, otherwise the Dewott would’ve been knocked out right off the bat. With the Braixen easily finishing off the puppy Pokemon once she could get an attack in edgewise, that left Hanaka to deliver a devastating blow against Cilan’s Pansage with the powerful Blizzard attack that she had learned some time ago. Phoenix almost couldn’t believe that they had actually won their first gym battle, it all seemed to go by so quickly and next thing she knew Cilan was congratulating her as he pulled a Trio badge from his apron. The redhead blinked out of her daze as the leader approached, remarking that he and his Pokemon had given her a bit of a challenge. ”Ah, y-yeah… Guess we got a bit unlucky for a moment there,” she said, offering a small, somewhat shaky smile as she accepted the badge from him, ”Th-Thanks, though, you weren’t half bad yourself!” How else had the Lillipup been able to make her Pokemon flinch three times in a row? Goodness… if that had been a challenge for them, she couldn’t even begin to imagine how her battle against Lenora might go.
Phoenix nodded and smiled as Cilan gave her a few more items, including a TM, an HM, and a fishing rod as well. Goodness… she wasn’t sure what she’d even do with half of this stuff, but at the very least having them in case she might want to use them was nice in and of itself. ”Thanks,” she said with a small polite bow as Cilan invited them to stay a little longer to dine. The offer was definitely nice, she might have taken them up on it if she and Kraven hadn’t already eaten before they’d arrived. She made her way over to meet with her friend once more now that the battle was over, chuckling at Kraven’s comment. ”Yeah, I can already tell we’re gonna be here in Unova for a while at this rate,” she remarked in kind with soft sigh, feeling a fair bit better now that she wasn’t at the center of attention with the battle now concluded. She smiled towards her Pokemon, momentarily bending down to gently pat Hanaka’s head and playfully ruffle Fianna’s ears, ”You both did great out there~ Should probably work on some things, but we’ll have plenty of time for that.” She was admittedly still somewhat embarrassed at how much they’d struggled with Cilan’s Lillpup, she could only hope that they wouldn’t run into a similar issue against Lenora’s Pokemon when it came time to challenge her.
Hanaka chirped happily at the praise, though her ears lowered somewhat as she sheepishly scuffed a foot against the ground at the second part of Phoenix’s comments. She definitely needed to get stronger… maybe it had been a stroke of bad luck that she’d run into as much trouble as she had, but they had managed to win in the end in spite of it. Still, that just meant she needed to train harder and improve her techniques, right?”Th-Thanks for the a-assist b-back there, b-by the way… I th-thought I’d be in b-big trouble for s-sure,”the Dewott spoke up, offering a small grateful smile to the Braixen who had helped her out. Fianna grinned brightly in return, lightly patting the little otter’s head.”Any time, sweetheart~”the fire fox affirmed with a wink,”I know ya wanna be able to take on these things yourself, but don’t ever feel afraid to ask for help if you really need it, alright?”Hanaka simply nodded in return, feeling glad that she could rely on her teammates to have her back when she needed them the most. Well… some of them, at least…
”In any case, guess it’s onwards back to Nacrene then if you’re ready to get going. I could give you a bit of a heads up on Burgh's gym along the way since we'll be heading for Castelia right after I get Lenora's badge,” Phoenix suggested, shifting her attention to Kraven as she gestured the way they’d come. However, as she said that her eyes lit on a nearby display counter off towards one corner of the café, the interior of which was lined with shelves of cakes, pies, cookies, croissants, and other various baked delights. ”Although… we could grab some snacks to take along for the road if you’d like,” she offered as she turned her gaze back to her dark-haired friend. She was definitely much too full for dessert at the moment, but since they were already here… she certainly wasn’t going to say no to maybe grabbing a few chocolate mint chip cookies or one of those tasty-looking brownies to have later.】☆ ☆

Once the battles were all said and done Kraven moved to greet her companion on her way back, happy to congradulate her on her first gym badge. She watched the redhead's pokemon seemingly celebrate their victory in their own little way, though she could hardly be privy to the specifics of their conversation. Already though the girls' sights were set on their next destination, and the raven-haired trainer seemed eager to hit the road again. "Sounds good to me. He's uh... A ground-type leader, right? Or am I thinking of the big guy?" She'd read up on most of the gym leaders before coming to Unova, but with only a cursory glance it was difficult to remember the precise order. She had a bit of an inkling that she wasn't quite correct, but before she could dwell on it any further Phoenix's sweet tooth seemed to come calling.
"Still not satisfied after all we had for lunch?" She teased, chuckling as she stepped away from the door towards the counter. "I don't mind though, by the time we're heading back across the bridge we'll probably want something to munch on anyway." Kraven motioned for Phee to make her order first, seemingly to take that time deciding what she would get.

☆ ☆【Well, that was one badge down, one more to go and she’d be caught up with her companion. After the rousing victory against Cilan, Phoenix honestly felt a little shaken. She probably could’ve left a better impression for her very first gym battle, but for what it was worth it could’ve gone a lot worse than it had. From what she knew about battles, sometimes some trainers tended to be luckier or unluckier than others. She briefly wondered if Kraven might have struggled on any of the gym battles she’d gone through so far… though from seeing how strong her Pokemon were thus far Phoenix felt that the first two gyms had likely been a breeze for her dark-haired friend. That thought made her a bit more nervous for her upcoming battle against Lenora, but as long as she played her cards right and kept her cool hopefully she’d be able to pull through that one too. That being said, it was about time for them to hit the road and head onwards to Nacrene while there was still daylight to burn. Kraven gladly took up her offer to give more insight on Castelia’s gym on the way, the redhead giggling lightly at her friend’s queries concerning the gym leader. ”That would be Clay you’re thinking of, he’s the Ground-type leader who’s gym is also inside of a giant mine,” she chipped in with a smile, ”We don’t have to worry about him until a little later, though, when we get to Driftveil.” Which, as far as she was concerned, was pretty much worlds away from where they were now. They would get there eventually, of course, but Phoenix wasn’t going to worry about crossing that particular bridge until they actually got there.
As they were fixing up to head out, however, Phoenix’s attention drifted over towards a nearby counter that was selling all kinds of tasty looking baked goods. While she was still full from lunch, Cilan had said they were free to stick around to eat or grab some treats. And that was an offer the redhead with a serious sweet tooth wasn’t going to turn down. ”Like you’re one to talk, I’m pretty sure you ate much more than me,” she retorted back playfully to Kraven’s teasing, smirking pointedly at her companion. She nodded in agreement as her companion went on, suggesting that they’d at least have something to munch on when they got back to the bridge. The redhead stepped forward towards the counter to place her order as Kraven gestured for her to go ahead, Phoenix’s brow furrowing deeply in thought as she mulled over the different options available. In the end, she decided to go with a couple of those decadent looking fudge brownies, the woman at the counter smiling as she grabbed a brown paper bakery bag and a pair of tongs. While her order was being prepared, Phoenix stepped aside to let Kraven do the same once she had decided, saying that she would pay for everything if her friend didn’t mind.
As soon as both girls had their goodies in hand, with a content smile on her face Phoenix was ready to go as they exited the gym and headed towards the town outskirts. ”Right, so Burgh is Castelia’s Bug-type leader, and his gym’s motif is basically an art gallery full of works that he’s painted himself,” the redhead spoke up, following up with giving her companion some insight on the next gym and making small talk along the way, ”He apparently likes to visit in Nacrene sometimes from what I’ve seen before, it’s where he goes when he needs to refresh his muse.” A small smile crossed her lips as she spoke, remembering seeing the man himself in person years back when Mrs. Chu had taken her on a small daytrip to Nacrene’s museum. ”From what I can tell you about him, he’s… quite the character, if you know what I mean,” she added, her smile turning a touch more mysterious as she spoke. She was tempted to just leave it at that and let Kraven figure out what that entailed for herself, though if her companion pressed for more information she would gladly oblige. Though the more she talked about Unova’s gyms and all the different motifs they had, like the Striation gym being a café and the Castelia gym being an art gallery, she wondered if other gyms in different regions did something similar. ”You know, I’m a bit curious… but what are the gyms in Kalos like? Are they pretty similar to here with having themes and motifs to match the gym leader’s type? Or are they a little different?” she asked, giving her companion a curious sidelong glance as they passed through the outskirts of Striation. There was still so much about Kalos, and other regions in general that she wanted to know, having not known much about the world outside of the bubble of Unova for most of her life. Which also begged the question of why Kraven chose to come here of all places to start her Pokemon journey, more so because Phoenix was genuinely curious to know and not because she was admittedly somewhat biased against Unova… but that would be saved for another time.】☆ ☆

"Aaah, I see," Kraven nodded along to Phee's report, the clarification making a bit more sense than her initially recollection. Truthfully, the cowboy outfit still seemed a little strange to her, but at least it and the gym typing was more appropriate for a dusty, earthy environment compared to clean city streets. But before their conversation could progress any further, the redhead got distracted by all the sweets on offer from the cafe, nudging them towards picking up a snack for the road. "In my defense, I didn't exactly have any breakfast to tide me over beforehand."
By the time Phoenix had her order prepared and sorted, Kraven came to her own decision. She couldn't exactly take something like a slice of cheesecake on the road, but a few cookies would likely stand up better. A few moments later and the lady behind the counter had another bag filled with the firm bundles of sugar, held together between sizable chunks of white chocolate. The fresh scent kept tempting her to just dig right in while her companion was busy paying, forcing her to set the container away in her bag for the moment. "Alright, let's hit the road..."
Kraven lead the way back towards Nacrene until their conversation resumed, at which point she slowed to walk together. "Really? I suppose it would be a good place to advertise, with so many people coming through." She quirked a brow at Phee's smile, failing to quite puzzle out the turn it took as the girl thought deeper. "Oh? And what kind of character would that be? You got quite the grin on your cheeks when you thought about him." The raven-haired trainer leaned her head in as she teased, snickering a little. She didn't think about any particular meaning--given how vigorously she reacted to just being called a friend--but it wasn't exactly unheard of for people to be interested in the gym leaders. She couldn't help but picture her shy companion with small crush.
The talk of the local gyms however turned Phoenix's thoughts towards Kalos, however, the question of the region's gyms now being turned to her. "Yeah, more or less. Though none of them are quite so integrated as here," she began, giving the redhead her space back as she started to think. "I never took it myself, but I had some friends who ran through them when they were young. The first gym over there is actually bug-themed, as it turns out. Leader's just a photographer though, and after that the next is uhh... A rock climbing deal." She took a bit to better collect her thoughts, before her gaze fell back on her friend. "They've all got their own little motif to go with their typings, but they aren't really... More than that? If that makes sense. Like, Unova's gyms so far at least are all functional establishments and such before they're arenas. If any of them retired you wouldn't be able to just kick out the old leaders and replace them with someone else, cafes, museums, and excavation sites are more tied to the people. Whereas a gym in Kalos isn't really built to be anything but a gym, for the most part. You know what I mean?"
Their talk would last well into the journey to the next down, Kraven herself hardly even realizing they'd left Striaton until they were nearly in Nacrene.

That sounded somewhat like the medals of honor knights were given. "Truly? Hm... Yes, I think I should like to partake. Perhaps this is where we shall go our separate ways then." A bittersweet smile crossed Leona's face as she turned to face Nick. It didn't really feel like she was leaving him, now that she had this strange new communication tool to call him whenever she needed. "I thank thee for the escort. I shall verily find my way from here" Leona gave him a polite bow, before her eyes set on the nearby gym, striding confidently towards it.
Not much farther away, a bespectacled and tired looking man walked through the town with his hands full of strange supplies. "I can't believe my shipment got stuck all the way here in this hell hole." He grumbled. "Ahem..." Arthur cleared his throat pointedly. Jean didn't even bother acknowledging him, but Hugh lifted his head, looking back to Arthur. Stubbornly, he stayed in place, giving a raspy howl as if beckoning him to them. "You can't be serious..." Arthur deadpanned, but sighed and moved back to Nick. If there was one thing he'd learned spending time with these two, it was that they had stubborn minds of their own. "I hope they aren't bothering you." Arthur suggested somewhat apologetically. Now that they had arrived proper into Striation City, it seemed their time traveling together was at an end after Nick pointed out the gym and told Leona a bit about the league and other attractions of the town. "Have safe travels, Fraulein~ I look forvard to meeting you again some day." he smiled to Leona as they bid farewell to each other. It didn't feel right, letting her go on her own. The author couldn't help but feel worried about her, but she was an adult and could take care of herself. Even with being in a very different time period. Besides, he still felt guilty that he had dragged her into a scandal. Nick sighed as Leona disappeared from view, raising a hand to his face to run his fingers back through his hair. What was it that he was supposed to be doing now, then?
He looked down at Viktoria and her little group of new icy friends, giving them a smile. "I don't suppose you are meaning to join me for an adventure?" Nikolaus chuckled, looking over the snowy owl and the ghostly leopard cat that had accompanied his alolan vulpix. Viktoria gave an affirmative yip and the two pokemon didn't seem opposed, so nick welcomed them into balls of their own. "Hmm.... vhat to name each of you..." he pondered quietly to himself, still standing where Leona had left him. The author supposed he could get to know the new pokemon a bit more before deciding on names. Especially as he seemed to be in the way for pedestrian traffic in the town.
Nick blinked and stepped back, letting out a soft apology as he was almost bumped by someone that was walking by as if they were on a mission. It looked like an older gentleman that had his arms full of odds and ends.What kind of tale did that well dressed man have to tell? Nikolaus had only grown more curious as it seemed that the man had two large wolf pokemon following him. They were unlike anything he had ever seen before. What were they? Where did they come from? The author was bursting with questions so much, that it seemed like he had caught their attention.
Viktoria pressed herself against Nick's legs as the odd wolves approached, sniffing at her trainer. She couldn't help but feel a bit intimidated by them. "F-friends? You are friendly, right?" she asked a bit timidly. It didn't seem like they held any ill will, at the very least. "Haha, vell, hallo there~" Nick greeted the inquisitive wolves, allowing them to sniff him. They were quite big, yet it didn't concern the author any. He reached out to offer head pats to them, but it seemed their owner had finally taken noticed that they had stopped following him to check Nick out. "Hallo! Are these your volves? Oh, don't vorry about it! The vere not a bother at all!" Nick smiled and waved, greeting the other gentleman as he got closer. It seemed the other had been concerned that the wolves had been bothering him. "I've never seen such pokemon before. Vhat kind are they? I- oh, haha, mein apologies. I should at the very least introduce myself before asking so many questions~ I am Nikolaus Veiss."The author was about ready to bombard the busy man with questions, but remembered his manners enough to introduce himself to the other with a smile.

The giant wolves said nothing as Viktoria asked if they were friends, however their eyes were gentle and postures purely relaxed and curious as they circled and sniffed Nick and his pokemon. Jean was certainly happy that Nick didn't seem to mind, and even willing to give them head pats—something that Arthur wasn't liable to do ever. Needless to say, she took what she could get, sitting obediently and craning her neck closer clearly eager for a good scratch behind their ears. Hugh was a little more wary given that he didn't know this man from Adam, but didn't really intercept between Nick and his sister. He did give her a look for being so... Well... Obvious about it. With a huff, Hugh continued to sniff the air, and eventually his eyes landed on the nearby gym before looking back to Arthur as he approached.
At least Nick didn't seem bothered by it. Arthur, however, couldn't accept that the wolves could be anything but troublesome. "You don't have to lie for my sake. They need to stop being so nosy, literally and figuratively." He glared at Jean in particular, who indignantly kept insisting with her body language that Nick continue petting her. "Arthur Davenport. A pleasure." A curt introduction that seemed to lack any sort of warmth that his words otherwise would have implied. Arthur wasn't really interested in exchanging pleasantries so much as going back to his ride taxi and getting the hell out of here as soon as possible so that he could put all this Arceus damn stuff down. "Well you've seen them now, and feel free to get well acquainted because I will leave you two behind if I don't get to the taxi before my arms fall off, thank you." He jabbed a little more forcefully since subtle gestures didn't quite seem to convince them enough. Jean finally acknowledged him with a smug look at his obviously growing irritation. "Don't you get testy. Try me. I'll do it." Arthur threatened while the wolf rolled her eyes with a huff.
Hugh, in the meantime, gave a mild howl to get Arthur's attention and looked towards the gym again, then back at Arthur. "What? No. We aren't challenging a damn gym. We have those back in Galar. You know, where my workshop is?" He held up his armful of supplies again, only to be met with two expectant stares. Arthur let out a loud and aggravated sigh. "Oh for the love of—fine. Fine. That's just bloody brilliant. I suppose you'll just be carrying all of this for me then?" He grumbled, scanning around for the taxi that had brought him here, stepping over and stuffing the box full of large rolls of parchment, steel plates, and other odds and ends into the carriage. "I apologize, but it looks as though we'll be staying here after all. However, if you could please deliver these things to this address and make sure they are brought inside, I will gladly pay you extra." He pulled out a small notebook, scrawling something down before tearing out the page and handing it over to the confused driver. "Certainly, sir." With that, he flew off and Arthur begrudgingly returned to Nick and the two stubborn wolves. "Well then. This should be fun. Lead the way, by all means." Arthur waved a hand, indicating that they go on, sarcasm clear in every word he spoke.
