How many PMs/comments/friend requests do you mean? About 20 each? Oh yeah! And I was wondering! Was Modmas your idea, or did you just set up the thread?

Skippy, I guess I didn't respond in time of being any help, but I hope you slept okay.

About 40 PMs/comments and 30ish friend invites. I've been continually getting more though, I stopped trying to keep track.

I started the idea off with me just throwing some pink boxes at some random people I saw in the forums and then it gradually just grew into what it's at now.

That was really kind of you! heart How do you feel about the activity in the Modmas thread now? I guess it must be gratifying for your brainchild to grow like that. 3nodding But I guess that all of those things you got means that you're popular and well-loved Kenny!

@Skippy - I've been wanting to see Up, but I haven't had time yet. I think I'll watch it over the break.

On the one hand it's nice to see it became so popular and such a big success. On the other, the spam and speed at which the posts are made make it difficult to actually interact with users in it. I'm still hoping the activity dies down since we're not rewarding people who try to spam the hell out of it to get an item.

They might be hoping for one of those random prizes that was mentioned. confused

Yeah, but since I hold nearly all of those random gifts on my mule I pretty much decide who gets it. The other mods who are giving stuff on their own also don't like people spamming so I don't think they'll be handing stuff to the spammers either.

Once I finish with my junk from this semester, I'll join in the festivities. Hopefully most of the spam will be gone by then. I'm planning on entering the writing contests. 3nodding

So, normally when something is this unbalanced I'll complain about how Gaia's economy is going to collapse even farther and blah blah blah.
But, considering how long it's been around, and how far Gaia's economy has already been ******** to high heaven, I don't care.
Since I started playing Booty Grab (last night) I've made 80k (or at least that's how much I've made since I've started counting).
This is the first time since I even started my quest for the NM Scarf that I actually thought the goal was attainable.

Yeah, but users are impatient. Many won't stick around if they don't see reward for them doing so pretty quickly.

And yeah, Booty Grab is nice, I made about 40k overnight just from people playing my tank, I didn't even do anything.

That's just ridiculous. I've made 100k since yesterday, and I've found an excellent thread where there are no fluff posts, and the only people allowed to post have pure dolphin tanks. And I think today the owner is going to start inviting pure Watermeat tanks, and then monster tanks and one more, I forget what exactly.
All I've been doing is going up and down each page, playing the booty grab there, then I go back to the beginning, and there's usually someone else on some page that is now glowing, so I play that. I can just go in a circle, and I might have to leave it alone for a few minutes, which is fine.

Since I refuse to use GC, is it actually worth it for me to go out and buy a bunch of Dolphins (or something else) from the marketplace and start a tank? Will I actually see a profit on my gold in order to buy more and still come out ahead before they all die?
Or am I better off with no tank and just playing Booty Grab?

Well, if you are going to buy a tank, make sure you stuff it with good fish only, and then make sure that you advertise your tank like crazy if you want to get a good profit from it. I think Kenny just did the ultimate advertise for his tank. I just tried grabbing his booty, but the game was already full thanks to Modmas. rofl I personally prefer the monster tanks when I have to choose ones to grab. If you make a tank of only one kind of monster, the payout is incredible. I have some friends who have made a killing off of lawn-shark tanks. And last time I checked, lawn-sharks only cost about 50k each. However, they only live a month, so you have to keep buying lawn-sharks to keep it going. Buzz-saw and Kokeshi tanks are also really good. I know someone who is doing a decent job with her lightning bug tank too. Her only problem is that no one sends her thread invites. sweatdrop I'm not dedicated enough to play booty grab for more than 15 minutes each day, so I usually don't get much of a payout. Plus, my computer is as slow as molasses, so I don't make nearly as much as I should from booty grab. Last night, I played a tank full of dolphins, and I only managed to get about 400 gold thanks to the lag. sweatdrop

I guess that's one thing I'd have to learn. How long things last. The dolphins sell in the marketplace for about 240k. But is that because they last for two months+ or just because people are overpricing them?
And if lawn sharks are only 50k and you can make something like 40k in one night, it should pay itself off in half a month.
Mind you it's like you said, that's only if you advertise it right. Although it seems like a lot of people just put it in their sig with a "If I glow, please bump here" message.
And if I could get an invite to the pure thread I'm sure that would boost a lot.

I guess my biggest concern is just that the ends will justify the means. Since using Gaia gold for a tank is going to cost quite almost everything I have, I don't really want to come out behind.

I wouldn't use gold to make a tank. Buying 17 dolphins with cash would cost $84.83. I love Gaia as much as anyone, but I'm not about to spend that kind of money to make gold. Btw, the 40k was from just one glow. Most tanks glow about every two hours, so if you are online to bump your own thread whenever it glows, you can make a killing. Plus, if you booty grab between glows, just imagine! The only problem is that you can't know when your tank is glowing anymore. It used to be that people could use the Glow Timer to find out the exact moment they're tank would glow. But now, it only tells 30 seconds in advance. xp You pretty much have to rely on your friends to let you know when you're glowing or bump your thread. I hangout in a prize/hangout thread in the aquarium forum, and most of us have gotten really close. It's almost impossible for someone to glow without everyone bumping for you. Also, if you ever start a thread anywhere, they'll see it in My Gaia, and help you with your thread too. xd Seriously, friends is the reason that I'm still on Gaia.

I lag pretty heavily in the aquarium forums and during the game so i can't make a large amount of gold.

.. Though today I did make 10k gold about. @_@ But... FINALS. @_@

Yeah I'm not about to spend a single cent on Gaia. I'm not a fan of Gaia Cash at all.
But that's why I mentioned if you could see a return by spending the gold on the fish by buying them from the marketplace. Because it will take almost all of the gold I have in order to buy enough fish to make Booty Grabbing worth it.
I just don't want them to all die before I see a profit.
If I bought 17 lawn sharks it would cost me 850k.

What is usually do is buy them over time, and then once you have collected enough, then you open a tank. That way, it doesn't seem like you are losing as much gold. But yeah, if you play it right, you can get back your investment and more. You want to make sure that you advertise your tank to be invited to join a monster thread or something. I'm sure you've seen the threads where there are pages of one type of tank. You also want to make sure you have a thread for when you're glowing, and you will want to have a link to it in your sig so your friends can help you out. It's pretty involved business if you want to make alot of gold off of it. Most of the people I know figure out approximately when their tanks are glowing, observe them with a mule (because you can't see when your own tank is glowing), and then bump your thread until you have a full game. The more times a day you can do this, the better. I know of many good ways to make gold on Gaia, but I don't have the patience for it. I tried playing the marketplace by buying low and selling high, and I made quite a profit off of it. However, it drove me crazy until my items sold. And the only ones that will make you a noticeable amount of gold are the expensive items; usually fish and EI's. Another safe bet would be to invest in a really expensive MC (coco's, kiki's, golden laurels, etc) are good bets. Those items are inflating like crazy! So you can make quite a bit off of them that way. You can usually buy these items cheaper in the exchange. I bought my kiki for 150k less than the marketplace price. Unfortunately, you need gold to make gold, and I spent all of my gold on my kiki. sweatdrop

I'll probably just be better off playing every so often then. I don't really feel like getting extremely involved like that. I can go to the degree of making a thread for my tank and trying to get a pure thread. But I don't feel like monitoring my tank with a mule and everything else.

I'll still make gold this way. Maybe not as much as fast, but I'll still make plenty.

Not really. If you don't make sure your tank is out there, it won't be grabbed, so you won't make much. You need to plaster your tank all over the aquarium and other forums if possible. Trust me. I've spent enough time around people who use their tanks as their major source of income to know what I'm talking about. If you are always in extremely active thread with you know will bump your thread, monitoring your own becomes less important, otherwise you have to do it yourself. You might not even make enough to cover your investment. Kenny has an edge being a mod. People pay more attention to mods and their tanks because people usually thing that they are super cool/interesting/figure heads/royalty. For the rest of us with black usernames, it is harder to get people to care.
