The two of them are into smoking pot and drinking socially.

That right there tells me she isnt ready to be a mother. Does she plan on stopping this while pregnant?

But I do have to say something here, being overweight doesnt mean you cant or shouldnt have kids, I am and I didnt encounter any problems because of it. I know I should lose, but that will come after Im no longer working and have the time to do so.
Just my 2 cents..... redface
I'm sure that she wouldn't do it while she was pregnant. Her boyfriend isn't the same, however. He had mentioned not smoking in front of pregnant women, but I think that was just because he wanted to make me feel guilty for visiting them while I was pregnant.

I'm actually overweight myself, but I think that I try much harder than she does to actually eat well and take somewhat good care of myself. None of my children were planned. I'm only concerned with her weight because she's actively trying to become pregnant and if I was in her shoes I would have made a commitment to bettering my lifestyle first.

Y'know, the last person I know who decided her lifestyle was paramount, and that having kids was just so she could more or less complete the box set of life, ended up having twins, both of them mentally disabled. Unless these people are *dedicated* to making their own lifestyles the best possible in order to have the healthiest children possible and raise them to be good people...I recommend they quit trying. I don't think they'll be happy with what they end up getting.

We struggled for 14 years before going to a fertility specialist and only did that because we had the money. IVF was quite expensive but very worth it. My twins celebrated their 8th birthday last week! The hardest part is having them so late in life: We run out of energy too soon! The best part is that we are financially prepared and at a better maturity level to raise them. (But not too mature! wink )
