Reese sat next to Kaden, happily sucking away at the juice box. Skating was thirsty work! But he wasn't getting tired yet. Nope, oh just ignore that yawn that just escaped from his mouth. He'd be ready to go back as soon as his juice box ran empty.
Riordan eyed the silent man for a long moment. "So... what do you do?" Conversation, people!

What? Conversation? Alex wasn't un-social it was just...Oh, dear how was he supposed to explain things? Large pupils darted back and forth against the floor while the boy tugged nervously at his expensive coat. "I..." if he knew the word for nanny, he would have used it. Alas, the man's vocabulary was limited and thus he stated his "career" the only way he knew how, “I live with Jamie and her dad and take care of them." There. Simple enough, right?
Mmn, this 'ju' wasn't so bad. In her mouth the liquid tasted sweet and just about any child could appreciate that. There was also the fact that Zeta didn't keep much junk around the house. Milk, water or coffee? Take your pick. Milk made Jamie ill and children shouldn't have coffee, so the obvious choice was water. Impatient to get back out on the rink, Jamie let out a sigh and kicked her legs, even as she continued to suck up the liquid. "Deer--" she huffed handing off the Juice box to Alex who looked at it dumbfounded. "We go back now."
"Jamie? ...Jamie--wait up!"

Kaden accepted that explanation of what Alex did for a living. That could explain partially why Alex was so uncomfortable with Jamie. Perhaps he was new? Or she was, one of the two. However, the adult conversation was cut short with the pink girl's beeline back to the skating rink.
Reese scrambled around, trying to get his own skate-leaden feet over the bench and after his new friend. "Way'!" He shouted as he tripped and fell flat on his face, frowning at his own clumsiness and close to bursting out into tears.
Kaden quickly stood and helped disentangle Reese's legs from the bench. The man then had to hurry and keep up with the boy as he was trying to keep up with Jamie.

Huff. Puff--Nng, skating by yourself was harder than it looked! The small girl discovered this as she carefully clawed her way along the wall, her skates tripping her up every few feet. However, in the end, there was something highly rewarding about making it to the rink herself. Glancing behind her, Jamie finally cared to see both what Alex and Reese were making a fuss about. Making a fuss? IF anything she should be making a fuss. Nose wrinkled, her hands fluffing-up and playing with her dress, Jamie wiggled back and forth for the rest of the gang to catch up. "Huwwy!" she whined at Alex, as he was her ticket to the rink floor.
Managing to quickly set the drink down with out spilling it, the shaky man on skates made his way to the demanding little girl. "Jamie--" he leaned down and instead of guiding her, picked her up. "Unf--" Alex struggled, grunting as Jamie wriggled in his arms, demanding to be put down. "Jamie--Jamie! Say you’re sorry, first. You caused your friend to trip--" Looking back Alex pointed to the poor Reese, who looked a little more than hurt (physically and emotionally), that Jamie was running of without him.

As Kaden wondered whose bright idea it had been to put their already accident-prone kid upon wheels, he was helping Reese stay on his own feet as they made their way over to where Jamie was waiting, now that her guardian had caught up to her.
Reese was a bit overeager to reach his goal to care how he got there. But face planting on the floor along the way did not feel good, he found out as he managed to fall again as he pulled ahead of Kaden. The man helped the kid back up, glad that they were almost to the pink girl.
