Be the change that you want to see in the world. -Mohandas Gandhi

The body is like a bodhi tree And the mind a bright mirror carefully polish it clean every day and let no dust alight -shenxiu
In response to Shenxiu's poem
From the start there is no bodhi tree nor stand of a bright mirror buddha nature is ever pure; where can the dust alight? -Huineng
the first poem is easy to understand the second I will explain
Everything in this world has merely relative truth status. Buddha nature is the ever present, true nature of all being within us. it does not need to be purified since it is untouchable by negative thoughts and emotions.
these two poems have sparked many debates in past centuries.

When Banzan was walking through a market, he overheard a conversation between a butcher and his customer. "Give me the best piece of meat you have," said the customer. "Everything in my shop is the best," replied the butcher. "You cannot find here any piece of meat that is not the best." At these words, Banzan became enlightened.
