One of the funniest arguments I've ever seen comes from IIDB. The thread in which it was posted still exists, albeit slightly mangled over the years, and most of the posts have had their poster information lost. It does remain somewhere in their Elsewhere forum, however.

Fortunately, there's an easier source for it - it was posted on FSTDT (although I didn't know this until yesterday - I haven't read through the complete archives of that wonderful site. Yet.)

It's a truly classic argument - while most arguments are devoid of science and logic, this one truly takes the biscuit, the cake, the prize and the piss - it's ignorant of far, far more than usual.

Without further ado, I present to you the Argument from Bull.

Eternal
Did you know that all bulls are males? How can these bulls mate to have more bulls? It's your funeral evolutionists. Admit evolution is a pathetic fantasy created by scientists because they can't accept God.

FSTDT

Eternal
[After being told 'they mate with cows, you idiot']

Then, why don't the bulls that are born have some bull like features and cow spots? If a bull mates with a cow, wouldn't you get a female eventually? Evolution is dead water.

FSTDT

The original thread has been moved, so the links from those pages are no longer valid - I'd try to track down the original thread again, but IIDB seems to either be very very slow or be down at the moment.

It is probably the second funniest, saddest and lamest argument I've seen, and you're probably all familiar with it. I'm sure you're all even more familiar with the FSTDT Post of the Year 2005 (warning: comments thread contains a very nasty pun), which beats Eternal's offering in every way. But posting that seems unnecessary.

Wow.

What really gets me is how he manages to use capital letters and punctuation, while still being completely ignorant of pretty much everything.

Oh. My. God. That is the stupidest, but funniest thing I have ever heard. I don't even know how to respond to that...

I've got one: "To say the Bible was written by men and may contain inaccuracies completely contradicts the word of the Bible"

Compelling argument, huh?

Oh my god, this is the biggest load of hogwash ever. Racist? We theorize that the first homo sapiens originated in Africa, so it would be better for them if they were dark-skinned, just as people of African descent are now. When some migrated to Europe and North America and such, that much skin pigment was not necessary, so it faded away by natural selection. That would be why there are still dark-skinned people as well as light-skinned and every other shade. And again with the "evolving from apes" argument. People didn't evole from apes, we both share a common ancestor. Art and bicycles were manmade, so duh, they had a creator. Plus they're not organisms, so they aren't going to evolve. This isn't magic. Like the whole watchmaker thing. You can't make an analogy to something that we know IS manmade. It doesn't hold an argument. And rust isn't disorder, it's natural. The metal is decomposing and reacting with its surroundings and changing into a different form. "Just because some noisy people keep saying the same thing over and over doesn't make them experts"? Yes, I think I agree with that, hypocrites. And the petrified trees that are vertical? Who says that trees must fall over when they die? And the layers of earth that made up only a few hundred years? Yes, obviously that happens in some areas due to volcanic activity or floods or other such phenomena, but in the majority of cases, land is left to gradually build up and be eroded away. So OBVIOUSLY any rapid buildup of soil and rock layers must point to Noah's flood? So they're saying that the rock at the base of the Grand Canyon is mere hundreds of years old? Theories do not contradict each other. If new evidence is found, the correlating theory is carefully analyzed and rewritten to be most accurate. Religion found in one book is far more contradictory than science ever has been.

And though Irealize I have been preaching to the choir (a most ironic cliche for this guild!) I part with my favorite quote on the subject:

"Before assuming that the unknown is the only possible way to account for the complexity and diversity of life, it must first be demonstrated that known forces and processes cannot do the job."
--Michael Shermer, Why Darwin Matters

I s**t you not, someone once said to me "So, if evolution is real, then if I put a rock out by the road it will eventually turn into a person?"
