Shaw beamed at her coworker and friend,"If you require any affirmation, what you're doing is working well. The amount of magic I drained from them was incredible. It really does boil to the surface when they're under severe stress. Time it right and we'll drain them for all they have," she smiled, "Oh? A challenge? From Blood Raine?" she said, with a tone of questioning. She wondered what kind of thing a psychopathic split personality would challenge someone on.
Upon mention of the dragon slayers exceed, Shaw's face split into a grin that would be fit for the Cheshire Cat, "You'd like to see the bond between a girl and her talking cat? Look no further," she clicked onto the main security camera live footage which had now been fixed after Kai's escape and showed the Ciaran the purple-haired girl chained the to wall and sitting opposite in a tiny cage, a little exceed with a now empty red rucksack, "We snagged her right here in Atlanta. I'm assuming the reason she was here with Ymir was because the members you sent to retrieve her failed their mission. Once again, the people who decided on the groups underestimated the strength of a dragon when paired with the 'mighty Hysteria'. Quite a story behind that woman. She's almost like Raine in a way but much more under control. Then again if you're to be the right hand of the guild master you have to be almost perfect. Almost. Not quite perfect enough to avoid being bashed on the head so hard you drop to the floor like a sack of potatoes. A sedative shot for good measure and she's basically going to be a royal mess. The stand-in guild master losing someone under her direct protection? Tut tut," she smirked, "Selma has been very compliant. Mostly because if she uses any of her poison attacks, she'll end up killing her exceed as well. Such an effective thing," she smiled, clicking off of the feed.
With the conversation turning back to Kaya's time in stasis, Shaw nodded, "I'd love to see what mysteries we can uncover by looking at her physiology. X-rays, MRI scans, cognitive tests, anything we can convince her to do. I want to know everything about this form of 'stopping time'. I know is sounds a little ridiculous but I've always wanted to publish a breakthrough scientific paper discussing something no one has even fathomed before. I've had plenty that were put up on college websites for citations but nothing like that. I'd be applauded for sure," she said with an almost daydream lightness to her voice. Science was such a passion of hers, it gave her immense comfort and drove her to goals such as this. It's the reason Kimura chose her.
Shaw sharply inhaled in a fake wince, "Ooo, so harsh. Poor Miss Kane," she chuckled, "Do you truly think he feels that strongly for her? I'm not so sure he loves her if I'm honest. I do however think he's currently obsessed with seeking a fulfilling forgiveness from her. She might have told him she doesn't blame him but we saw the video, she ran out afterwards. She denied her fear of him until she fled her own home to get away. He's desperate to make that right and I think the guilt of her dying will send him spiralling down. Did you see all of his file? The reason he went mad?," she asked, not knowing whether Ciaran had time to see the long list of events in the blood mage's file, "The boy he shared a room with in the lab was killed right in front of him. I looked up the child, a young boy who was being taught shadow magic for secret missions, disobeyed the rules and showed the sweet, innocent Raine his magic. And when the guards hit him to punish him, he fought back and used those shadows against them. The pictures were disturbing even by my standards. His throat was sliced open and he bled out. All the while, Raine was watching. Personally, I think they were tempting fate by putting them together. Who wouldn't want to show off their cool new tricks to a friend? Idiots. But I suppose it worked to their advantage. Raine's punishment was solitary confinement. That's when his little friend appeared," she said, referring to Blood Raine.
Shaw adored the enthusiasm that oozed from the dark ecriture wizard but he seemed to be getting slightly ahead of himself, "Perhaps focus on our true goals first. We have to get that duel power balance right. We've drawn a lot of attention to ourselves by releasing those teenagers in the cities and the abductions haven't gone unnoticed in the slightest so we can't be gathering young people like we did before. We have to use the numbers we have wisely," she warned, "However, once that's done, feel free to drag as many members of her family into this as you want because by that time, we'll have our army," she added with a cheerful smile.

Ciaran inclined his head. A pleased smile graced his features. “Thank you. I am pleased to hear they gave you so much on the first go.” He looked down at his hand where a purple rune suddenly appeared, hovering just inside his palm. “Magic is an interesting thing. It can stay hidden for the longest of times or come bursting forth without warning. For most users of magic, it bubbles to the surface when great stress is applied. A sort of defense mechanism, if you will. The more we press them, the more we’ll be able to retrieve. We just need to make certain we don’t overextend them…or ourselves. Time it right, as you say.” The Dark Écriture mage extinguished the rune he had crafted with a flick of his wrist. “Mhm,” he nodded. “Can you believe it of him?! In chains and he’s issuing me a challenge. Mind you, I’m content with this for it would serve our goals just as well. Blood Raine seems to believe we can’t turn the dragon away from the light. That she holds such a strong moral compass that she won’t bend to our will. Of course I intend to accept his naïve challenge and show him how terribly wrong he is.” It would be one of his greatest accomplishments, setting just below his goal of molding Raine into a weapon of mass destruction. Yes, the murderous persona of Blood Raine did not know the joy he had brought Ciaran upon issuing his challenge.

The turn of the conversation to the topic of Exceeds brought with it a wondrous surprise. No sooner had Ciaran lamented the loss of valued research material than Shaw relayed a savory bit of news. “Hah hah!” He clapped his hands together loudly upon seeing the live video feed. Selma and Xerxes- the poison duo of Sabertooth- sat dejected in a cell, caged and chained with no hopes of escape. “Wonderful! That’s hatchet indeed!” His voice rang out loud and crisp, full of excitement and delight. The good doctor could not be more accurate with her assessment. For a guild master stand-in to lose one of her own without so much as a proper fight was simply an embarrassment to the guild. “I’m almost glad those fools were defeated,” Ciaran cooed at the screen. “This makes it all the juicier. Oh yes, I intend to use this to its full advantage. That girl and her Exceed will make for great pawns. Not only against one another, but for our headstrong Blood mage below. I simply cannot wait to inform him of this!” With another Sabertooth mage in their grasp, Raine would be in the palm of their hands. His options for refusal had gone from miniscule to virtually nonexistent. And then came the ideas for the purple-haired girl and her feline friend. I wonder— Dare he remove the cat from the cell? Perhaps place him with the water dragon? It was easy enough. A simple test to begin with. After all, with Xerxes’ unknown whereabouts, the poison dragon slayer would dare not act for fear of losing him for eternity. “It looks as if our research can expand even further,” he cradled his chin in palms as he winked at his friend.

Settling back in his chair, the young man drew in a quiet breath. His expression thoughtful as he pondered the mystery that was Kaya. “She is quite the enigma, isn’t she?” He chuckled wryly. “A mystery simply waiting to be unraveled. And who better than us to do so, eh? She’s in no position to refuse our requests. Not if she wishes to keep her newfound friend from harm. The girl may be willful and possess a high pain tolerance, but she can’t resist the pain of others. If I’m being honest, the torture we performed earlier could be considered my method of finding her limits. Now that we have the base line for it, we can delve into the experiments and tests without undue concern.” Kaya was a veritable treasure trove of data. Ripe for the furtherment of their goals. Both personal and professional. Reaching out, Ciaran clasped the woman’s shoulder in a friendly manner, “You’ll have the recognition you deserve, and she will play a key part in it. I assure you.” His hand rested there for a second longer before falling away to droop at his side. A light laugh mixed with Shaw’s own. “I do indeed believe it. Although, you aren’t wrong either. On the surface, he desires her forgiveness for allowing his darker persona to slip past his defenses. Yet, if you dig underneath, it’s clear he’s got a glad eye for her. Blood Raine pursues her for her blood type while Raine chases after her affection. Either way,” he twirled his hand, “I don’t intend to give him the chance to make it right. I want him to become vulnerable. To feel those emotions so that they might destroy him. Then we can build him back up in our own image.” Nodding towards Raine’s file, he added, “Those stooks may have made some miscalculations but they were able to get one thing correct. The boy in that file is evidence of it.” Ciaran may have only glimpsed the file thus far but a picture had been painted for him. To strike a crippling blow at Raine, one must strike at the thing he cares for.

His enthusiasm continued to grow with every new point of discussion. The Dark Écriture mage’s mind ran rampant with ideas and imaginings for what to do with their test subjects. They became more grandiose by the second. If not for Shaw interjecting reality, Ciaran might very well have lost himself in the fathoms of possibilities. “You’ll have to forgive me. Sometimes I get overly stimulated from the potential held here. You’re right, of course. We can’t afford to act in haste now that we’re ready to proceed to the next phase. It could be disastrous.” He would sooner die than be the cause of their ruination. “So, let us discuss then what our next course of action should be. I have my thoughts for the next torture session, but I feel as if our next encounter with the light mages might be better served with experiments. What do you think? Is there one you have in mind you would like to attempt first?” Pale-yellow eyes lit with a wolfish gleam. He was all too eager to formulate a timeline of events for their special guests.

Shaw nodded in agreement,"Quite right. The last thing I need is you overdoing it and being out of action. I saw the footage. That spell you used to pull Kaya's memories out took quite a toll on you. So much so, Raine broke your runes," she said with a tone of amusement. She wouldn't have found it funny in the slightest if the blood mage had gotten free but it had been interesting watching that tiniest flicker of worry that had inserted itself subconsciously into the minds of the two dragons in that moment, "Not that it did him any good. Broke his arm, didn't it?" The doctor rolled her eyes, "He's a madman with a superiority complex. It doesn't matter if he's in chains or not. He still sees himself as being above you," she said nonchalantly as if she had expected nothing more from the insane ace.
The doctor was happy that Ciaran was just as pleased as she was with the one in a lifetime chance of capture, "I was tempted to have Ymir taken as well but I felt we didn't quite have the facilities here to hold her. I'm unsure whether a full-force hurricane could be contained here," she sighed, slightly disappointed but knew it was better to keep Hysteria at a distance for now.
She nodded in response to the question of Raine now having a guild mate to be concerned about as well as Kaya, "It'll certainly be interesting to see how he reacts. I'm considering giving you a live video feed so you can show him what we'll be doing to poor little Selma. He was too out of it to fully comprehend what was happening when Kaya's magic was taken regardless of how loud her screams were. But if we take it to him first thing, while he's still 'in the room' so to speak, it will certainly provoke him. I might even be able to take another lacrima full of magic energy from him if it stresses him that much. Might even cause one of those glorious breakdowns of his as well. Have you seen them? They're not as spectacular as his murder sprees but..." she clicked off of the video feed from the poison dragon slayer's room onto saved video files. Hiding in the folder that Raine had all to himself was a video that was shorter than the others. Double-clicking on it, the screen brought up an image of Raine standing in the doorway of his bedroom. Pressing 'play' the video began, showing the blood mage stumbling through the door, holding his head, "I know what you're thinking but he isn't drunk," she said as he fell to his knees next to the bed, knocking the alarm clock and glass off the bedside table. Over the smashing sound of the glass hitting the floor, Raine could be heard begging an unknown and unseen force to "stop" and "go away" before curling up on the ground, crying frightfully loudly in the same way someone would had they just had their legs cut off. She closed the window and looked at Ciaran, "I'd quite like to see it. However, I think it may have a different trigger to what I hope it is," she said.
Shaw rested her head on her knuckles and sat in thought for a moment, "I know it won't be the same as having her own exceed with her but it would be interesting to see the level of empathy Kaya has for another slayers pet cat. I'm sure if presented with a similar thing, a non-slayer wouldn't be quite as... how should I put it... understanding? They couldn't comprehend the bond of a slayer and her exceed whereas Kaya will know exactly what it's all about. I think she'll be quite badly affected by it," the doctor mused. Shaw pondered over what else she could offer the dark mage for his next bout of torture, "Hmm," she exhaled loudly, "if we want emotional torture then the exceed for Kaya and the video footage for Raine will be perfect. Physically... you can always delve into your spellbook of a mind and dish out some pain that way. You still have the skewers as well; you can take a blow torch for those if you want? Heat them up. There's plenty of drugs to keep them awake, heighten the pain, knock them out, make them see some more glorious things. I don't know if you're looking to go to extremes and cut fingers and toes off. I wouldn't advise it. But if you want some slicing fun you can always ruin their good looks. Give a few more scars for life. I've been working on a body and mind paralysis drug and also a magic inhibiter but they're not ready yet," she said with a smile.

████████████████████████████████████████████████

Shaw certainly did not miss a beat. “You’re correct,” Ciaran sighed, nodding approval for her insight. “My magic reserves aren’t excellent. Utilizing the binding spell twice over then using my memory spell taxes me to a greater extent. It’s mostly due to the memory spell, however. It delves into the deepest parts of the subconscious where it seeks out what I desire to know. Breaking through a person’s defenses, both consciously and subconsciously, is a rather trying task. Add to that the need to sift through all memories and…well…,” he shrugged. The doctor had seen the end result. “It’s something I’ve been meaning to work on with myself. Perhaps Kaya will be able to help me overcome this particular shortcoming in my spell.” Her memories were the perfect tools. She was stubborn enough to warrant the use of his memory spell as well. He held no doubts she would not be forthcoming with her past, which suited him just fine. “Aye, that he does,” the Dark Écriture mage huffed. An intense gleam entered his pale-yellow orbs. “Which will make it all the more delicious when he finally breaks. I will thoroughly enjoy the moment those walls of his tumble and he is left begging at our mercy.” It would be a long-suffered victory indeed. One that, whether Raine acknowledged or not, was certainly in their future.

He waved off the disappointment of leaving Hysteria to her own devices. “I’m not concerned about the facility, but you were right to leave her be. Our resources are great but not infinite. The only true goal we could accomplish with her would be as a means to control Blood Raine. I think we’re more than capable of that on our own, don’t you?” Ciaran ran a hand through his hair, mussing it as he did so. “Then again, I admit it would be interesting to pit Hysteria against Blood Raine. The two might very well destroy one another…if not our lab.” He chuckled at the imagery playing out in his mind’s eye. Their powers were immense on their own. Having the two clash could prove enticingly dangerous. “No, as much as I hate to admit, we cannot afford to contain her at the moment. I wouldn’t be against obtaining her once we’ve met our goals.” Once their experiments succeeded, once Kimura’s army was completed, there would be plenty of opportunities to see to such other inquiries. With no one to stop them, they could take as little or as much time as they deigned.

His eyes flicked to Shaw. A hint of a wry smile danced upon his lips. “Are the televisions in the cells ready for use again? The technicians were having difficulties with them when we were dealing with Celeste and Clement. If they are fixed, then I would certainly like to use that feed. Raine has already made the mistake of stating his concerns for the tigers. With Selma in our grasp he is sure to become enraged.” The blood mage would be unable to stand it. Her screams as her magic is forcefully taken will be inescapable. His inability to protect his precious guild mate will eat away at him. Yes, it would make for a glorious picture. His expression of fury as it shifts to helplessness would be wondrous. A tantalizing image to reproduce on one of his larger pumpkins. Ciaran’s smile broadened with the introduction of Raine’s legendary breakdowns into the conversation. “Sadly, I haven’t,” he leaned forward in his seat, eyeing the computer screen with interest. The good doctor obliged his curiosity by switching the live video of Selma to one saved prior. The Irish mage watched intently as the redhead cupped his head in his hands, stumbling about drunkenly as he moaned and wailed. The epitome of self-induced misery. “Whatever his trigger,” he licked his lips predatorily, “We will make sure it gets pulled.”

Oh yes, that trigger would be pulled without hesitation. But, first, he would suffer the torment currently planned. He and Kaya both would. “As much as it pains me, I must set the physical torture aside this go round. Their bodies won’t be able to withstand the experiments if I push them too much further. That’s not to say, however, that I am against using certain spells to remind them of their circumstances.” Crossing his elbow over his arm, he tucked his chin in his palm, tapping his finger against his cheek. “I think emotional and mental anguish shall suffice in our next session. On my way below, I can stop by Selma’s cell and pick up her little Exceed friend. The poison dragon won’t dare act against us as I’ll make special note of what could happen otherwise. Meanwhile, he’ll make excellent incentive for Kaya to heed my commands. The smallest hint of defiance from her will bring painful consequences to him. And as to Raine, footage from the girl’s cell will do wonders. I simply can’t wait to hear what sort of distress it’ll put him in. I wonder if he’ll become more cooperative as well?” There was no limit to the sorts of suffering he could conjure from their minds. The Exceed and poison dragon were merely the beginnings of what Ciaran had in store for the two. A foundation upon which to build, as it were. “You will have to let me know when those are ready for a trial run. They could come in handy with our little test subjects. There is time yet to finish their development. Until then, I propose this as our timeline of events: I shall begin the next session within an hour or so. Purely emotional and mental affects. See where their boundaries lie. If you wish, we can perform cognitive tests and physical examinations on the water dragon while I deal with Blood Raine in the following session. Their magic should be sufficiently restored by that time. Their stress levels high enough to provide a large amount for extraction. Is this to your satisfaction?” It was a basic timeline with plenty of room for modification should Shaw wish to add her own thoughts.

Shaw pondered for a moment,"I wonder how a willing participant in your spell would react. It's all well and good saying you have nothing to hide. I, myself, don't believe I have anything dark in my history I wish to keep a secret at all costs. But, what if just the idea of having someone invade you in such a private way, made it just as difficult for you? Would it cause as much distress as if caused Kaya bringing forth all those problems? I feel it's something we could have some fun with on one of the less... historic members of our subject group. Maybe Selma would be one to try. She must have painful memories of her dragons doing their natural behaviour of leaving their young after a certain age. We as humans would see it as abandonment. But, her pain would be no secret. Would she resist as fiercely or would her defences drop quicker?" she questioned, partially to Ciaran and partially to no one in particular. She had a habit of theorising out loud. She smiled at his comments on Raine. "Yes, it will be quite spectacular... if it works, that is."
Shaw nodded, "You current project with Blood Raine would have meant that Hysteria would be tossed to the side concerning importance and I don't like it when test subjects are left on their own too long. She's another one I would have only entrusted to you and Miss Tenma," she said. The doctor laughed heartily at the dark ecriture wizard's bold ideas, "I believe we would need to build a facility strong enough to hold the Hulk if we wished to create such a battle," she smiled. As ambitious as it was, it would have been amazing to see.
The doctor nodded again, "Yes, yes, they're fixed," she confirmed, "Here is your footage and the live feed to Selma is on this laptop," she said, handing him a laptop bag and a stack of DVDs with neatly-written labels telling him what was on them; "Near Death - Octavia", "Clement's death", Celeste's death", "Valor's death", "Kai's torture" and lastly, "Raine's massacre". "I have quite the collection, as you can see and if his trigger isn't in there, I don't know what else it would be," she said, "If you're able to, avoid making that broken bone worse. I know you'd rather caused harm but bind him so he can't move it. Our medical team is good but they're not miracle-workers. His powers are suppressed so he can't do much healing himself," the doctor warned. Whether Dragon's Bane were paying her or not, there was no room for unnecessary torture, as odd as that sounded.
Shaw spun runs in her chair, "I will join you in the cells in a little while. I'm going to check if there's anything else I can pull from these files and bring them down with me," she glanced at him in the corner of her eye, "This will be fun," she smirked.

OOC: You can head down now if you want. The others are getting closer to coming to the lab so I thought we should hop to it

Ciaran pondered the scientist’s theory. “Truth be told, I have never had a willing participant to use it on. Every instance I’ve used the memory spell has been to obtain valuable information from a party less than willing.” The further he contemplated the question, the more intrigued he became. What would come of someone less inclined to fight against him? Their pain might not be so great as that demonstrated in his previous uses of it. If there were to be any pain at all. “I would have to agree with you Doctor Shaw. It is quite an intriguing theory! Selma would be a prime subject to test it on as well. I may...,” his voice trailed off when an epiphany struck. “...I may even be able to use it against Raine. Oh ho ho, yes!” He slapped his knee emphatically. “His expression when he sees her will power vanish. Her willingness to let me invade her mind in the most private of manners. He will have to admit defeat once again. Blood Raine, Ace of Sabertooth, failing his little guild mate time after time. How perfect!” They would be able to record the feed to play over and over again as well. Not to mention the use of comparing Selma’s footage with that of Kaya’s. Maybe he would even play them in a loop or perhaps together. The permutations of ways afforded to him to torment Raine were boundless. “Oh,” he grinned slyly, confident of the blood mage’s impending breakdown. “It will. There is nowhere for him to escape it. Of that, I can assure you.”

Crossing one leg over the other, Ciaran folded his arms across his chest and inclined his head. “True. She wouldn’t have been a priority of mine. Not with the challenge of Blood Raine at hand. As you say, it’d be unwise to leave her to her own devices in the cells. I feel we might not have been able to hold her for long, especially if she were held in faulty equipment like the lightning dragon.” Ciaran could explain that failure as nothing else. The boy may not have been considered a security risk, but they did not slacken precautions either. He chuckled upon picturing the Hulk tearing through the walls of the laboratory. Both amusing yet disturbing when in reference to the two tigers. “I don’t know if there are any walls that could contain them in that manner. Letting them battle on an island void of life...that might be sufficient,” he admitted.

His pale orbs alighted. “Excellent.” Unfolding his legs, he stood from his chair before taking the proffered items. The white-haired mage glanced from the laptop bag gripped in his right hand to the stack of DVDs in his left. “This will be wondrous. I have no doubts that their minds will bend, if not break.” It would be unfathomable. No mind was so strong as to resist the torment captured within these items. No matter how stubborn an individual was at first. “Don’t worry. I will make certain to keep him bound when it’s his turn for play. We need him to heal properly in order to make him what we desire. A disabled weapon is not a weapon worth utilizing.” Their efforts could not be wasted in such trivial manners. “I believe I’ll start with our pet first anyway. Between them, I think she’s more strong-willed. I’ll have further to go with her. Consider it a warm up for Blood Raine. Let him see the torment of another unrelated to his guild before showing him the DVDs, then culminate with the live feed.” That should be sufficient to rile him. “Come down whenever you are ready,” Ciaran dipped his head. “I’ll keep the computer recording so you may review everything you miss at a later time. Now,” he hefted his luggage, “First to the poison dragon’s cell to grab her furry friend. I look forward to seeing you below.” He smirked, overhearing the woman’s wry comment. Indeed it would be fun...and worthwhile.

It was not long since her exhaustion got the better of her that Selma regained her conciousness. Despite the open wounds on her wrists and the various spots on her body that had corroded by her blood, Selma was not phased. Or so it seemed. Being in constant pain for so long had numbed her sense of touch and her nerves. Her body and brain reacted to the constant pain by rejecting it. There was nothing she could do about that now but wait. Wait for her body to fall apart piece by piece. Her blood had filled the floor of the room. After exiting her body and reacting with the oxygen on the atmosphere, her blood turned into a completely black substance, surely even worse than when inside her body, as the very floor was starting to curve inwards. Her gaze was empty and motionless until she felt cold running down her spine. Her eyes lifted, but her strength did not allow her to lift her head. She looked around but there was nothing in the room besides her and the black substance on the floor. "What is this feeling?... Something... Something is not right..." She thought. The more she was looking around and having that thought going round her head, the more uneasy she felt. She had never tried to use her blood as a weapon, so she did not know it's properties as a poison. Surely it was corrosive, but also hallucination inducing? This was something she would have to see for herself, if she was to survive this situation by some sort of miracle. "Or it is just my body reaching it's limits after all this time in this cell, locked up" She told herself. She tried to close her eyes and let her exhaustion make her fall asleep but then a sharp pain made her scream at the top of her lungs. Her blood had finaly started to corrode her eyelids and made it's way onto her eyes. She immediately started tearing uncontrollably as her body attempted to stop her eyes from being destroyed. The sharop pain was dulled, as her tears dilluted her blood, stopping it from damaging her eyes. Still, her eyes were shut closed, tears flowing like small waterfalls and her mouth wide open as she was breathing heavily, trying to get as much oxygen as she could. This is not good" she thought "My blood, reacting with the air... It's reacting with the oxygen, limiting the already scarce amount... And it has already started to produce fumes..." She continued in her head. Slowly, she opened her tear filled eyes and looked towards the door of the cell, hoping that anyone could come inside... Anyone who could free her from her suffering

She trailed behind her captor, keeping a pace or so behind him, while the doctor kept in step behind her. The temptation to hit them, to use one of her spells to strike was greater than she anticipated. For the first time in however many days, she felt her magic coursing through her. She itched to do something with it…to pay them back for everything they’d done. It would be simple enough to cast a roar in their direction or maybe a wing attack. Shaw didn’t seem to have any magic and could be taken out easily. Ciaran, well, he’d be a little more difficult, but if she caught him off-guard then she’d have a good chance. The opportunity was there. She just needed to take it. When would she have it again? The odds were slim to none. Yet, the Dragon Slayer hesitated. The thought of what might happen to Selma, to Raine, or to Xerxes if she failed at the attempt was enough to keep her quelled. Kaya didn’t want any of them to suffer because of her actions. Still though, to have the ability to strike be in the palm of her hand and not be able to was maddening. Ice blue eyes flicked in Ciaran’s direction, I bet that’s why he took the cuffs off. He knows I want to hit them but can’t. Her mouth curved in a silent snarl. He was teasing her, showing off the control they now possessed.

And an amazing feeling of power it was. Ciaran felt practically giddy, secure in the knowledge that the girl would not dare attack. She knew well the consequences of such actions. He had noted how swiftly the defiance had ebbed from her once presented with the Poison Dragon Slayer’s predicament and their subsequent ultimatum. The child was as putty in their artistic hands now. They were precisely one step closer to molding her into a puppet of darkness, whether she acknowledged it or not. “I believe it prudent we set some ground rules before we step into the next room,” he remarked upon reaching the door set atop the stairs. “You are not to act unless told. You are not to speak unless spoken to or unless you require something to aid you in your task. If you attempt to do either of these things, or if you attempt escape, then you will suffer the consequences. Additionally, since we will be in the laboratory, you shall submit to any tests or procedures Doctor Shaw and her scientists wish to perform. You will do so willingly, without hesitation. Am I clear?” His piercing pale yellow orbs leveled upon Kaya, awaiting her response. To his delighted satisfaction, she gave a prompt, albeit faint, nod of assent. “Oh,” Ciaran grinned manically, “Yes, I nearly forgot. You will also address us properly when we ask questions of you. A mere nod of the head simply won’t suffice. For Doctor Shaw, myself, my guildmates, and the scientists, you will say ‘yes, sir’ or ‘yes, ma’am,’ but you will call my Acushla by her appropriate title- Master. Now…do you think yourself capable of this? Answer carefully.” The dark mage said nothing more, allowing his words to settle over her. His unvoiced threat loomed darkly.

Kaya bit down on her tongue. She had been about to tell him where to stick his rules. The words danced on the edges of her lips, ready to sting like venom. But she couldn’t. Not unless she wanted to forfeit a life for a single moment of self-gratification. As much as it pained her, she would have to play by their rules. “Yes…sir,” the teenager managed to grind out with obvious effort. That one little statement left such a horrible taste in her mouth. Bad enough to where she wanted to find a bar of soap and wash it out as best she could. Ciaran’s smug expression made the feeling even worse. To see the flicker of exhilaration in his eyes was sickening. Just you wait, Kaya glowered hatefully back. You’ve got another thing coming to you if you think you’ve won. Which they did. The Dragons’ Bane members thought they had her completely under their thumb. They may have had the power for the time being but that wouldn’t last forever. She was biding her time as much as they were wasting theirs, waiting for the right moment to act. Until then, however… “You’re gonna have to let me drink water,” she stated matter-of-factly, “Or else I can’t do it since you geniuses stole my magic.” There was evident spite in her tone that she didn’t care to hide.

Ciaran studied her for a time, measuring her with his penetrating stare. Yes, there was still rebellion in her heart. That much had been made plain. Yet she had done as instructed- granted with disdain- and had not attempted to fight. “Very well,” he inclined his head slightly as he pulled the door to. There existed a marked difference between the holding cells and the laboratory. Whereas the area below was best suited to restraining the more rambunctious subjects, requiring more precautions and differing methods of control, the area above showed the tell-tale signs of experimentation and research. Hallways led off in various directions, eventually branching off into other avenues and footpaths. Here and there the hustle and bustle of the scientist could be heard. Others crossed their path directly. Some spared curious glimpses while the more knowledgeable held expressions of concern and uncertainty. Ciaran could not fault these individuals for their worry. To see one of their test subjects, especially a slayer, apparently free from any constraints was abnormal beyond measure. With the escape of the Lightning Dragon Slayer still fresh in their minds, it did not surprise him to observe such wariness. Setting those thoughts aside, the dark mage focused upon what was to come next. “Here,” he said, drawing to a stop at the next intersection. He gestured to his left and waited for Kaya to approach.

The raven-haired girl walked cautiously forward. She couldn’t see what he was pointing at, yet the smell stirred something within. It was familiar and inviting. Kaya didn’t dare get her hopes up at first since she hadn’t truly expected him to allow her to drink. But…there it was. She blinked, staring blankly at the water fountain tucked into a niche in the wall. A split second’s pause was all it took and then she was at the fountain, greedily sucking in the water as fast as she could manage. The liquid felt cool to the touch, sliding over her lips and seeping down her throat. It refreshed her, nourished her. The Water Dragon Slayer could already sense her magic strengthening. For that brief moment, that one instant, she didn’t give her present company a single passing thought or care. It was a reverie that was short-lived, however. Ciaran was quick to remind her of his and Shaw’s presence. Glancing over at him, the teenager took one final, massive gulp before pushing away from the fountain, wiping a hand across her mouth as she did so.

“Now that you’ve had your fill,” the Dark Écriture mage motioned for them to proceed. Precious effort would be forfeited if they did not make it to Selma in time. Of course, it was of little concern to him if she were to perish before they reached her. True, it would be a waste of a test subject and effective hostage, but nothing which could not ultimately be replaced. The real tragedy, if that were to be the case, would be the interrupting of their session below. He was certain he would have to start over if he desired to warp her mind. It’ll be of little concern in the end, he pondered quietly. If she succeeds, it’ll be well worth it…and I’m certain there’ll be more fun to be had. Oh yes, there would indeed be more fun. One such case was to arrive soon enough. Ciaran did not doubt Kaya would have a visceral reaction upon witnessing Selma’s horrid state. The video had not done it justice. The elder slayer had been in poor health then and had very likely grown worse over the course of the day. He wondered what they might find in there now. Ahh, he smiled fiendishly, coming to stand in front of a sealed door. There were no distinctive markings as to what awaited behind the door. No name, no announcement, nothing save for a set of numbers residing in the center most portion of the door. This coupled with the resiliency of the doorway itself were the only identifying factors setting it apart from the mundanity of a closet. “Here we are.” He reached for the panel to the side of the doorway, pressing in a code.

The door swished open. On the other side resided a room somewhat smaller than the cell Kaya was being kept in. There were hardly any furnishings whatsoever. A sink and a toilet sat unused on the farthest wall. However, she only had eyes for the form laying slumped against the wall to the right. Blue orbs widened in disgust and shock. Selma was settled against the wall of her prison. Every visible inch of her was covered in the black ooze. It flowed from her body, pouring over her and onto the floor until it too was decorated in the same blackness. Thick, noxious fumes stifled the air. Kaya’s nose wrinkled at the stench of it. Why?! Her hands clenched into fists, water starting to swirl around them. Her anger and hatred boiled to the surface, unstoppable and explosive. “How could you--?!” Emotion overtook her. The sight of Selma, the Poison Dragon Slayer of Sabertooth- someone Kaya had only heard of but had recognized as a kindred spirit- sprawled on the ground, being hurt by her own magic, was too much to bear. Without thinking, she wheeled around and launched a punch at Ciaran’s head. Something he apparently expected. Her fist was inches away from him when she jerked to a halt. The sensation of his binding spell crawled across her skin. Water splashed to the floor. Damn it! She trembled from the strain of struggling to break free but being held in place. Despite her rage, apprehension began to creep forward. Realization at what she had done caused panic and fear to well in her heart. Had she just lost her one chance at helping Selma?

As he anticipated, the young Dragon Slayer could not withstand the unkempt sight of her fellow. She did not seem to even consider her actions as she spun about to confront him. It was an instance he was prepared for. A wave of his fingers saw the activation of his binding spell, allowing him to subdue the child in the span of a second. “Tsk tsk,” he clicked his tongue at her, wagging his finger for emphasis. "Forgotten the rules already have we?” His lilt rose in pitch as he spoke- a clear sign of his enjoyment. “Do you want to see her suffer so badly? Hmm?” Ciaran circled around her. Her eyes tracked his movement. “N-no…” “Uh uh, no what?” Another tick of his finger and the bindings grew taut. “…No, sir…” His smile broadened further. Her supplication was music to his ears. “Then you will do well to remember who is in control here. Consider this your one and only warning. If you attempt to do something so foolish again, I won’t hesitate to punish you and end her suffering for her. Do you understand?” He awaited Kaya’s affirmation before releasing his hold. With an entreating look to Shaw, Ciaran withheld his permission to provide aid until his companion was ready and had given the greenlight to do so. Once obtained, he waved his hand to indicate she should get to the given task.

Kaya shot him and Shaw another withering look before doing as instructed. Stepping over the threshold, her face scrunched in a grimace at the foulness of the room. Step one would be to take care of the muck on the floor. There was nothing she could do about the air other than let it circulate out of the open doorway. Lifting her arms, the younger girl set to work. Water drizzled from her hands, sweeping along the floor’s surface to gather the poisoned blood, coalescing in the middle of the room where it formed a sphere. An instant later the water had purified the liquid so that it was as clear and pure. Leaving the sphere hovering where it was, Kaya moved over to Selma and knelt at her side. She appeared worse up close. Kaya opened her mouth to speak but faltered. She didn’t know if the rule about speaking applied to Selma or not. Knowing Ciaran, it probably did. There were a lot of things she wanted to tell her fellow Dragon Slayer. Chief among them was that Xerxes was all right. Maybe if… An idea formed. It was a long shot, but it could work well enough. “Water Dragon’s Secret Art: Purifying Elixir,” she muttered, summoning the water she had just purified over to her. It wrapped around Selma until it encased her entire body in a thin layer. “I’m not supposed to talk so act like this is part of my spell,” Kaya muttered in a whisper hardly louder than a breath, just audible enough for Selma to hear. “Everything’s gonna be okay. Xerxes is alive. They’ve got him with me. I’ll do what I can to keep him safe.” She paused to concentrate on pushing and pulling the water through the purple-haired woman’s flesh, removing the toxins from her blood, healing what damage she could and soothing her agony. “Raine’s here too…down below…I think we’re--”

He cleared his throat, drawing her attention to him. “Am I to assume you’re breaking another rule already?” For her part, the child did not seem abashed nor did she appear guilty. Instead, she met his accusation with a contemptuous glare. “You said I could talk if I needed to. This is how this spell works…sir.” Ciaran considered her, weighing her words carefully. Could it be true or was she attempting to veil her treason under the guise of her spell? Their lack of knowledge in this particular spell meant that it could be either truth or lie. Which it was…he could not say. He would merely have to accept it as truth till there was proof to the contrary. She should hope that to never be the case, for the consequences would be swift and severe.

SHAW RW

Shaw’s high heels clacked against the cold hard floors of the corridors as she followed Kaya and Ciaran to the upper levels. She watched the back of Kaya’s figure, her radio in hand to call for backup should they need it, and a draining lacrima in her pocket for good measure. She could see the tenseness of the slayer’s shoulders and the way her head moved ever so slightly. It was obvious the water dragon was becoming more aware of her surroundings as the drugs and pain were wearing off. Though, it was also clear that other thoughts were coursing through her mind, "Just in case you’re thinking about it... don’t," she warned firmly, "Think long and hard what will happen to Selma and Raine if you try something. I will make you watch that dragon slayer die and then drain everything out of that blood mage until he stops breathing. Got it?" Her voice was harsh and demanding. Like a cruel headmaster of a school of nightmares.

Kaya appeared to be furious that she was being forced to refer to her captors with respective titles. It must have infuriated the Fairy Tail wizard beyond belief. The doctor could do nothing but smirk as the slayer referred to the dark ecriture mage as ‘sir’. It was just too good. What was even better was that Shaw had activated a small camera embedded in one of the buttons on her coat which meant she’d caught every strained word of that. She was sure Ciaran would be more than happy to sit and watch the footage over and over again later. But for now, she was using it for research purposes. As they marched through the corridors of the research section of the building, many of her coworkers stopped and stared. A few attempted to speak to her but the doctor simply put her hand up to quiet them. "Not now. Come to me later. We have a very current and pressing matter to attend to, can you not see that?" she said snappily, grumbling about the idiocy as she passed the rest of the employees. They all looked a mixture of concerned and curious. Both correct in their place in this situation but it was none of their business.
Reaching the water fountain, Shaw kept an eye on Kaya as she greedily drank the cool liquid. She could see the relief on e teenagers face, like it was the first meal real she’d had in years. Even for her, the filtered water tasted pure and refreshing, she wondered exactly how it was for the water dragon slayer. That was something her research may never discover but it could possibly be a good side project to look into: figuring out the wonders of elements on the coinciding dragons and their slayers. That would be a world class study but she had no time for it. There were much more present issues and the doctor was snapped out of her pondering by Ciaran’s motions to proceed.
The Fairy Tail wizard’s reaction to her fellow slayer wasn’t unexpected. Seeing Selma on the ground in her current state would be upsetting for anyone who was affiliated with or part of Sabertooth in a positive way. Shaw gripped the draining lacrima in her pocket as Kaya swung for Ciaran, stopping a short distance from him. Luckily, the dark wizard had everything under control and the slayer calmed quite quickly upon being reminded of the rules.
She observed the spell being cast quietly, standing at an angle so her button camera would catch all of it for documentation. When accused of breaking the rules again, Kaya’s denial seemed true enough. "It doesn’t really matter either way," she murmured to Ciaran, "No matter what she says to the poison dragon slayer, it won’t change their situation. So what if her flying rat is safe? Doesn’t mean he will be fine by the time Kaya returns to her cell. Why does it make a difference knowing Raine is here? In fact, it just brings false hope. That blood mage is a useless bag of flesh right now. We’ve nigh-on broken him already. He’s been crying, for goodness sake. Would that really give her any hope for the ace of her own guild? I think not," she said, scoffing at the stupidity of it all.
Shaw’s phone bleeped in her pocket and she took the device out of her pocket and held it to the side so as not to obstruct the view of her camera. She frowned, "It seems there will be a lot of punishment dealt out today. The capture of the Cavern Dragon Slayer has failed, as has the capture of the Devil Slayer. No word from the girl you sent to deal with the nature wizard from Fairy Tail, or the woman you sent to grab the Shadow Dragon Slayer and nothing from the man you sent to collect the rich girl with the soap magic. Perhaps better teams should have been chosen for these tasks. Whose idea was it to send a single person after the Devil Slayer?" she shook her head with disapproval. She would have quite liked to get her hands on him. They’d been tracking Caedis for a while and it seemed they’d missed their chance. And as for the nature wizard, she wouldn’t so much want her for any experimentation but Ciaran may have enjoyed her presence considering who she was related to. But that wasn’t to be thought about for now. Right now, all that mattered was making sure this situation stayed under control.

☽❄ ████████████████████████████████████████████████ ❄☾

Ciaran studied the little dragon while she performed her task. His pale-yellow orbs gleamed darkly in the lighting of the room. “I agree,” he inclined his head. “Yet it is not so much the content of what she says, my dear Doctor Shaw; rather, it is that she is saying anything at all. It would be direct defiance of the rules we have set. A blatant disregard for the authority we have over her. Which, as I’m sure you would agree, cannot be left uncorrected. Even the smallest amount of rebellion must be squashed lest it grows into something more. You and I have both seen the effect such confidence can have on another.” Had it not been for the girl’s troublesome strength of will, he imagined both she and Raine would already have been well within the clutches of darkness. Their efforts had not gone completely to waste, of course. Raine had in fact, as Doctor Shaw eloquently stated, become a blubbering mess of a man after they had hardly toyed with him. Yet Kaya’s stubbornness and refusal to give in managed to ground him, to bring him back from the edge if slightly so. To say he was mildly perturbed by their ability to bounce back would be an accurate statement. Although, he must admit his colleague made an excellent point on the matter. Whether Selma knew more of her guildmates’ plights or not made little difference to her predicament. It instead lent itself to quelling any silly notions of a rescue by that ridiculous blood mage. Ciaran smiled wolfishly. Yes, Kaya could try to defy them, try to lift her fellow slayer’s spirits with false hope, but it would be for naught. Those ludicrous dreams of safety would come crashing down around them…one way or another.

Selma didn’t say anything to Kaya, which was okay. She had just wanted to let the purple-haired girl know that she wasn’t alone in this dreadful place, that there was hope. Kaya skimmed the other girl’s body as her spell started its work. Tch, she ground her teeth. Selma was in worse shape than she appeared. The sheer amount of poison coursing through her system was enough to kill twelve elephants. If she hadn’t been a poison dragon slayer, then she would have died long ago. As it stood, it took every ounce of concentration and energy Kaya had to clear out every vestige of it. The process took less than thirty minutes, but it felt like hours. Finally, the teenager felt the last remnants of the poison leave Selma’s body. Heaving a tired sigh, Kaya leaned back on her haunches, absent-mindedly purifying the water and settling it into sink. She’d done all she could for now. It’d take some time for the poison to build back up in Selma’s body. How much, she couldn’t say, though she gave it a couple of days judging by the amount she’d just purged. Then the process would have to be repeated. If they let me help her again, Kaya frowned at the unmoving form in front of her. Kimura and her goons could easily decide it was a waste of time to save the poison dragon slayer. They thought of her as nothing more than a practical asset. Once her usefulness wore out…Kaya couldn’t bring herself to finish the thought. Shaw’s harsh words flooded her mind. Not only would they kill if someone became ineffective, they would do so merely to prove a point as well. And she—she wouldn’t be able to do anything if it came down to that. The slightest misstep could cause Raine, Selma, or Xerxes to be hurt.

That manic elation of Ciaran’s dissipated swiftly. Shaw reported the failures of more teams. Completely unacceptable. “As you say…there are very few who will escape Master Kimura’s wrath. They were to be some of our more intriguing subjects.” Drawing in a breath, he let it out seep out slowly from his maw. “No matter. Our lesson has been learned. From this point onward, I shall personally see to it that appropriate teams are selected. We cannot afford to be so reckless.” He sensed his agitation rise. The individual whom decided upon the teams and their intended targets would regret these failures. A weary exhale brought him from his musings. His gaze trailed to Kaya who seemed to have finished at last. Ciaran calmed his spirit, stepping forward to better glimpse her work. “Well done, little dragon. It took longer than I anticipated but our toxicity problem appears to have abated.” “Sorry you got impatient while I helped out a friend.” Her tone was markedly sarcastic and biting. Ah…there’s the blatant mutiny we have come to expect. The Dark Écriture mage waggled his finger and clucked his tongue, “So little respect, Kaya. And right when I felt we were making progress with your attitude.” He tucked his hand under his chin, releasing a put-upon sigh. “I suppose we shall simply have to—” Ciaran pressed the activate button on the remote control concealed in his lower hand.

Pain rippled across Kaya’s body. She collapsed backward onto the floor, jerking and spasming with every jolt. Tears sprang to her eyes as she tried not to scream out. It was hard. The electricity bolstered by Ciaran’s rune markings was pure agony. Seconds ticked by into mintues. When would it stop?! At last, after an eternity of torment, Ciaran released her from the collar’s grip. She lay sprawled out on the floor, breathing raggedly. Her limbs quaked sporadically from the shock. “Now then, I believe that will be the last reminder I provide on your stance here. I suggest you heed my warnings.” He pivoted to the brunette standing next to him. “I am sorry for any delay this might’ve caused in your plans for her. If you wish to gather any data on them, be my guest. My lesson just now should not affect any readings you wish to take…except for perhaps her pulse rate. I imagine that may be quite high for a few moments more. Other than that, I think we have accomplished what we intended. We can leave whenever you desire, Doctor Shaw.”

Selma didn't know how much time she had been unconcious for. She could not even discern if she was concious or not at this time. Her entire body was numb and her vision blurry. Her ears seemed to play tricks on her at first, as she thought she heard footsteps outside her door. She was not wrong. Three figures entered her cell. She didn't know who they were nor their purpose here. The only thing she was certain about was a familiar scent. The scent of a Dragon Slayer. Despite her condition, her sense of smell was something that would never betray her. The Dragon Slayer had lowered her head to match her own and started to use her magic. She seemed to be saying someting but Selma could not make out her words. The only thing she knew is that her body seemed to feel lighter with every passing moment. When the fellow Slayer was done, she was barely able to crack the tiniest smile "Thank you" She whispered, before she fell into a deep sleep, finally not being tormented by her poisonous blood. At least for now

Blended between the black substances that littered the floor of Selma's cell, a dark figure had managed to hide. Using to his advantage, the fact that his water is the same black coloration, Poseidon was able to hide himself in the girl's cell without anyone noticing. He liked seeing her suffer, even if he was not the one causing her distress. The only thing that he did, was occasionally stop her blood from going wild and completely killing her. His only reason was seeing her suffering extend even more. This all, however, had to come to a pause, as three figures entered the cell. Two of them, he recognized immediately. Ciaran Frost, an A-Ranked mage of his guild and Lady Shaw, the head Scientist for the Guild. The third person was not one he recognized immediately, but soon he was frozen in place. Kaya Tsukino, a girl he had known since his days as a Legal Mage. "What is this? what is she doing here?" He thought, as he observed her. She seemed tired and beat. He realized that Kimura had taken her hostage too, but could not fathom why she was here now, helping Selma. Silently, without anyone realizing, he swifted through the liquid on the ground and got closer to his former disciple. He overheard her, telling Selma that her Exceed is in good hands with her and that she will do what she can to keep him safe. Ciaran was not tolerating her speaking to her fellow Slayer. Once she was done, Ciaran made sure to torment her by sending powerful electricity all across her body, to the point that Kaya fell to the floor, unable to even scream from the agonizing pain she was going through. This was a first for Poseidon. The first time he saw a person tortured and he didn't feel joy. All he felt was anger. Anger towards the one tormenting Kaya. Still, he made sure to not move. Only when the Water Dragon Slayer's torment ended and Ciaran had turned to Doctor Shaw, Poseidon decided to emerge. His towering figure manifested behind Ciaran, standing over one foot above his guildmate. "My my, what a performance" He said, slowly clapping his hands and looking Ciaran into his eyes. "Getting the Water Dragon Slayer to heal this girl was a clever move, but also a foolish one" he said, as he opened his palm and started gathering the water around him in the room over it. The clear water started turning darker and darker, until it had a coloration, similar to the one Kaya's had, before she completely purified Selma's blood. "The girl may suffer from her blood being poisonous, but the reason she fell asleep was not because she was not tormented anymore. It was due to improper oxygenation. Her body can no longer function if there is no poison in her blood stream" He said as he pushed the once again formed poison, back into Selma's body. Then, his gaze turned to Kaya, who was twitching on the ground. "If you would excuse me, allow me to escort this one to her room" He said, as he used his magic to command the water beneath her to lift Kaya's body. "And as for the Poison Dragon Slayer, leave her to me. I can make sure that she will not die due to her blood being too much for her body to handle" He said and left the room with Kaya in tow, carried by his magic. Once they had moved far enough from the cell and from the two other Dragon's Bane members, he took the young girl into his arms. "Why are you here, little droplet?" he whispered under his breath, as he continued his way towards Kaya's room
