Why did they have to stand around in the halls? Surely there were better places to hang out after classes were through. Of course, she did notice that most of those that were slacking off weren't ravenclaws.

She held back a snort as she looked around the library. It looked all the tables in the back of the room had already been taken by her fellow housemates. Great..looked like she'd have to set up on one of the tables near the door. That was never any good for her. All the comings and goings of people tended to distract her from studying. She sighed and glanced around once more.

Surely one of the tables wasn't completely full. She tugged on her book bag, biting her bottom lip and then eyed the tables close to the entrance. She was just about to sit down when one of the older kids got up from one of the farthest tables and started to pack up. "Jack pot!" she said gleefully to herself and hurried over to the table without running.

She slide into the seat a moment later, startling the boy who was leaving. "Sorry, didn't mean to startle you." She said with a smile. "The tables in the front are not good for studying at all." she added with a toss of her dark locks.

The older boy nodded and winked at her before he left. Maer felt her cheeks redden. He had to have been a third year, which was a whole year ahead of her. She grinned happily and got out her books and started going over her assignments.

Faye let out a dainty, yet frustrated, sigh. She had been siting at a jade table on an uncomfortable silver stool, staring at he same feather for over thirty minutes. Over and over she had repeated the same transfiguration spell, her goal to turn the white plume into a small animal of her choice. Faye had her mind set on a mink, but only managed to make the feather quiver slightly before returning to its immobile state. She was beginning to think it was because of her accent. Of maybe it was the unsubstantial work environment. She soon made up her mind to relocate to the library, gathered her things, and exited the Slytherin common room.

Several flights of magical moving stairs and a few corridors later, Faye glided into the library. She scanned the quiet room for an open table, finding many in the front. She scrunched her nose as a group of babbling Hufflepuffs idled by the entrance and wondered where the librarian was. Fixing her bangs, Faye noticed an older student packing up to let a Ravenclaw study alone. She watched the boy saunter close to her (he looked to be a third year) and smiled as his eyes lit upon hers. Faye fluttered her eyelashes at the wizard, her silver eyes sparkling with Veela beauty. She slowly ran her fingers through her long hair as she walked past, leaving the poor third-year staring at her wake, his mouth slightly ajar. She glided over to the Ravenclaw girl, gripping her wand and her feather close to her. "Excuze moi, would you mind eef I shared a dable vith yew?" she purred, blinking questioningly at her.

Maergrethe had just gotten out her supplies for beginning her paper for the History of Magic assignment when a voice spoke above her. She looked up with a slight frown marring her face, trying to place the accent.
When she saw the girl that was standing over her she had a slight shock at just how beautiful she looked. She had to have veela blood in her, Maer decided. There was no other way the girl could have such an intense spark about her.

"French?" She asked curiously. "Of course you may, just try not to bump the table. I don't really care for sloppy looking reports. They take loads of points off for blotted parchment." She added making an annoyed face. "I had a hard first year, at least this year I know better."

Maergrethe motioned for the girl to take a seat on the other side of the table and spread out her books to deter other people from sitting down. She really didn't need a full table of people bugging her, especially since she had a deadline for her assignments. She liked to get at least half of her assignments done during her free periods so in her evenings weren't completely taken over by them and she could relax and unwind for a bit before bed.

A flicker of confusion sparked across her eyes at the girl's first question. Wasn't it obvious from her accent and appearance that she was French? What landed this girl in Ravenclaw, she thought, if she couldn't put two and two together. At least the girl had good sense in accessories. The headband she wore complimented her hair nicely, and took the edge off the charcoal robes that all students are forced to wear. If Faye was headmaster, she would let her students freely wear whatever they wanted, as long as they were mostly covered.

"Oui, I em french." she smiled, delighted that the girl decided to share. "MY name eez Faye, I em a virst year." Faye extended a wan hand, which was immaculately groomed and filed. She nodded and frowned at her feather. "Zat iz good to know, i vill remembear zat. Merci~ " she chirped, pulling out her wand. "Zis tranzfiguration iz giving me trouble." she explained as the frowned at her feather. "Ze class haz to turn a feather into a zmall animel. MIne just von't durn." Faye repeated the spell, flicking her wand at the feather, which quivered, then fell immobile. "Zee?" she blinked disappointingly at the white plume. "I'm soree, I jouldn't be troubling vou vith my azignments, vou probably 'ave your own." Faye pulled her wand back into her lap, running her fingers through her hair.

The moment that stupid question came out of her mouth, Maergrethe wished she could take it back. She could tell by the look on the other girl's face that she was wondering how Maer had gotten into the Ravenclaw House. Maer sighed and ran a hand through her hair, she really wasn't going to elaborate to why she had asked such a stupid question. Obviously her mind had been on other things. This girl probably had other more pressing things to work on than to hear her reason.

Maergrethe nodded and took the offered hand and shook it gently. Such a pale and delicate hand made her feel as though she would break it if she shook it harder. "Nice to meet you Faye." Then she turned to look back over her book.

She looked up when Faye said that she was having trouble with a charm. "Oh well show me what you're doing." She told the other girl, putting her quill back into the ink pot to rest.

It wasn't hard to see what the other girl was doing wrong. She wasn't intoning the pronunciation properly and she hadn't done the flick quickly enough. "Not a problem, it's just a simple mistake," Maer replied, pulling out her wand and holding it in front of the feather. She corrected the pronunciation, and quickened the flick and the feather turned into a small pure white mouse. "Just keep in mind that the spell is drawn out longer at the end, and the flick is a bit quicker."

Faye watched the Ravenclaw girl set her quill in its inkpot and pull out her wand. She listened to her clearly enunciate the spell and wave her wand at the feather, which immediately turned into a small white mouse. Startled, Faye flinched back farther into her chair, her mind making her react as if the white mouse was a grotesque rat. Once she realized that her eyes were deceiving her, she relaxed her shoulders and perched on the tip of her chair, soaking in her final instructions. "Ohhh, I zee vere i vent wrong. Thank yew, em...?"she left her sentence open, realizing that she didn't know the girl's name.

While Faye looked questioningly at the Ravenclaw, the white mouse scurried off the table, landing squarely on the Library floor with a very soft "thump". It took a second to gain its bearings before wandering slowly away from the table, experiencing the world from a mouse perspective.

Faye glanced down at the table, noticing that her homework was gone, letting out a soft and surprised "Oh my...". She checked the table around the books laid out, thinking that it would be tough explaining the situation to her Professor. She knew the counter-spell to turn the mouse back to a feather, but she realized that she would probably screw that up too, doing more harm than good. Still she searched, daintily turning her head this way and that. She had no idea what she was doing, as Faye had never had to keep track of an animal before. Faye had no desire for a pet, as it would be a hindrance to her constant traveling lifestyle.

Maergrethe noticed that her choice of small animal hadn't gone over so well with the delicate girl. She grimaced slightly, of course this prime and proper french girl would be afraid of mice! Just because Maer was used to seeing mice and rats, mostly due to her family of brothers, didn't mean that everyone was the same way.

Maer winced when she realized she hadn't even introduced herself yet! "I am in improper form today," She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "My apologies, I'm Maergrethe Linwood."

She was rather surprised when the mouse scurried off the table and frowned. It was a feather..it shouldn't be scampering around. "Okay, that's strange." She murmured and pulled her wand out again. "I've never seen a feather act like that before."

Maer used the counter spell and flicked her wrist, turning the wandering mouse back into the feather it had been.

"You may want to go grab your feather, I imagine you'll want to try out the charm a few times on your own to make sure you can do it properly. If you don't need any more help, I'm going to get back to this paper." Maergrethe told Faye and then got back to her writing.

Minyaagar

Faye smiled patiently, nodding as the girl introduce herself. "A pleazure to meet vou, Maergrethe." she curtseyed. She watched silently as the Ravenclaw changed her assignment back into its original form. "Merci." she lilted, picking it up gently and slipping it safely back into her bag. [b"Thank vou vor your 'elp, I'll go end practice."] she curtseyed one final time before gliding out of the library. She could feel it inside her that she would get an A+ on her assignment, thanks to her new friend Maergrethe.

Maergrethe nodded in return to the first year and smiled when the other curtseyed. Well..now, she had never seen someone that grateful before.
It was a pleasant surprise to be treated so courteously. "Your welcome Faye, " She replied and shot the girl a smile. "It was nice to make your acquaintance as well. If you ever need any help, you know where to find me." She added on a whim.

She really didn't mind helping out younger students, and it did help her more firmly cement the older spells into her mind when she got to practice them more or try and teach them. It definitely wouldn't hurt to try and help other's out when she had a few spare moments.

"Practicing is a good idea. Have fun!"
Maer replied cheerily to the other girl and then went back to her own studies.
