Steel Wolves "We do the job and you pay us. You double cross us and we get even. That's how it works." Rayce Irving, Leader of the Wolves Location: In his room at the compound in Pripyat. Mood: Sleepy and annoyed. OOC: ...Rayce didn't want to wake up from his nap, his room being comfortably dark and the air conditioning overhead keeping the temperature nice and cozy compared to outside. He rolled onto his side towards the wall and did his best to ignore whatever it had been that had woken him up. But despite the fact that he didn't want to hear it the sound of the man's voice calling out again forced him to open his eyes in frustration. He sat up quickly, throwing the sheets off of himself and exposing his skin to the cool air, saying, "What?? What is it," in practically a shout at the guy that stood in his doorway. Now that he could see him, even though he was only partially lit from the lights out in the staging area, he could see that it was the guy in charge of monitoring the communication channels."Sorry ta wake ya man but ya might wanna check this out," was all the man really said before he ducked back out of Rayce's room, letting the door flap fall closed behind him and plunge his room back into darkness. He just shook his head and rotated on the bed, letting his legs dangle out over the edge of the mattress with a yawn to accompany the motion. His left hand raised up and groped around for the light switch by his bed and when he found it the fluorescent lighting lamps overhead hummed to life and illuminated his room. He had his own personal pair of wall lockers set up against the wall next to his bed and on the other side he had a metal military stylized nightstand. Across the room and by the door he had his desk set up with its own little reading lamp, papers strewn across its face accompanied by a combat knife stuck in its surface as well as his revolver and the shells it fired.
He sighed in exasperation at having been woken up early but the tone in the commo guy's voice piqued Rayce's interest and he moved with a bit more of a purpose. Opening up the closest wall locker he pulled out a white undershirt, a pair of uniform pants, and his boots which he slipped on as fast as his groggy actions would let him. He left the locker open and the lights on as he exited his room and stepped out into the staging area of his temper tent compound. There were multiple crates set up along the walls and in the center of the room but what he was most interested in was the corner of the tent by the entrance to the dining area that was assigned to the commo desk. His boots thudded lightly on the temper floor, his hands shoved into his pockets with an un-amused look on his face, as he rounded around the crates that were stacked between the door of his room and the one next to his so he could get to commo. What he saw when he got line of sight on the desk made him stop for a few seconds to appraise the situation.
There were three other mercs gathered around the long metal desk with all its transmitting and receiving equipment, all of them talking to the guy on shift for the position. Rayched tch'ed at the spectacle and once the other three noticed him they quickly retreated back out of the staging area. "Okay. What's so important that I had to be woken up?" Rayce still had that un-amused look on his face and if he had a cigarette at the moment he'd be rolling it annoyedly with his tongue."Hey boss. Yeah you remember the report on that big earthquake in Mongolia?" Rayce just cocked his eyebrow and nodded lightly. It was hard to forget something like that. Especially when the tremors from the quake were felt almost on the opposite border of Mongolia's neighbor, Kazakhstan. "Well there's been talk flying around the local channels that people think there's an old base that's been uncovered by the earthquake. A pretty big one at that."Rayce shook his head with a chuckle before he leaned up against one of the tent supports, his hands still deep in his pockets and the expression on his face shifting to amused. "What? You sayin' we should go after it? Forget about it. We'd have to cut through part of Russia and go through Kazakhstan to get there. Going that far just for some salvage and old antiquated tech doesn't appeal to me." He pushed up off of the support and turned to leave, his mind already floating back to the comfort of his bed but brought out of its thoughts by what the man said next."Boss there's also rumors that a gundam's held in that base somewhere." Rayce stopped dead in his tracks and turned on his heel to face the man once more, the look on his features turning to one of barely veiled hunger. The thought of getting his hands on one of those legendary machines of myth sparked something in him, made the wolf of battle in his chest stir at the idea of charging into a fight with such a powerful tool and the destruction he could cause to his enemies."Gimme as much data as you can get on it. I want a map of the area, field reports that you can get from any channels you can get them from. Media would be fine but if ya can get something more reliable then do it. I'm gonna get ready. If the others aren't back by the time I leave you make damn sure they're aware of what's goin' on, got it?" The man nodded, a grin starting to crest his lips at the thought of the operation before Rayce turned back to return to his room and get dressed for the occasion. Damn. A gundam. It may just be a rumor but I can't pass on somethin' like that!

Steel Wolves "We do the job and you pay us. You double cross us and we get even. That's how it works." Rayce Irving, Leader of the Wolves Location: Pripyat compound, mobilizing Mood: Awake and excited. OOC: ...It only took a few minutes for the experienced mercenary to get dressed in uniform and put on his body armor, the protective plates fitting snugly. This time he shut the light off in his room after sheathing his knife on his armor and strapping his magnum to his hip where it belonged. Last touch was his helmet which he retrieved off the top of one of his wall lockers, rolling it up under his arm before he secured the door of his room behind him by zipping the door closed. "Hey! Like I said make sure the others know what's goin' on when they get back," he yelled back to the man on commo before he left the tent complex.
His boots hit pavement and he went to work immediately, approaching the other mercs that were outside. He expected to have to try and convince them to come with but they were all ready and willing to accompany him, to his surprise. Apparently the rumors about that old base and what might lie within had reached all their ears and the typical mercenary greed had taken hold of them. Rayce had to smile to himself at how eager they all were before he chose thirteen of them to be on the convoy. He wanted his Leo to come with and he was obviously going to be the one to drive which meant he needed someone to be in charge of navigation on his truck. Another two mercenaries would be assigned to a second mobile suit transport just in case there really was a gundam in that base. He also wanted two humvees, one with a .50 cal mounted on it and the other with a M19, as well as two cargo trucks. If they were going to be taking salvage out of there he would definitely need the extra carrying capacity.
As the men went about fueling up and rolling out the vehicles Rayce hopped in his Leo's cockpit, the suit always being strapped onto one of the transport trucks just in case it needed to roll out fast, and did a quick system's check on his suit. In just under an hour we'll be on our way to Mongolia to claim a gundam! Damn this has gotten me excited as hell!!

Pripyat, Ukraine, Steel Wolves Compound _______________________________ Pripyat, Ukraine had been left a wasteland in the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 A.D. The then USSR christened Pripyat part of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone due to the large radiation contamination that took place following the meltdown of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Though it happened over a millennia ago, Europeans still avoid the place like a plague for fear of being infected. Though the radiation does not pose a great health risk, it does tend to make scanners and any sort of radar largely useless in the area due to all the interference.
Thus, the Wolves largely really on surveillance equipment rather than radar to keep watch on their perimeter. Not as if they could really afford radar equipment anyway, though they could most likely splice several salvaged mobile suit radar systems together. He and Vladimir were becoming experts at making something useful out of something seemingly useless. That was also the reason Taras had gone on his little expedition into the Carpathian Mountains. When his comrades asked why he wouldn't take atleast a vehicle, he claimed it would defeat the purpose of his mission.
He'd been gone for several months, Rayce had not been pleased with his taking a leave of absence, but at the same time Rayce knew whatever Taras was doing would serve a purpose. Everything he did served a purpose. That's just how his mind worked. Cloaked in a dark brown trench coat with a hood, a gas mask covering his face which disguised his features and had aided him in the higher elevation. Though he was no longer in any official records, there were those who knew the Steel Wolves well enough to see them as a threat, as well they should.
No other mercenary outfit could perform the kinds of feats the Steel Wolves could, no other mercs could even fathom the type of special operations these guys were capable of. It's just who they were. They surpassed all expectations and literally left the competition behind, or dead, simple as that. Pulling down his hood, Taras removed his gas mask before coming to a halt, looking over to see the crews working feverishly and Rayce's Leo beginning to move. Something was going down.
Breaking into a run, Taras went into the command tent. "Status report!" he demanded to no one in particular, one of the men running up to him and giving him a brief synopsis of the situation. Taras responded by pushing past him to his room where he dropped the disguise trench coat and grabbed his signature crimson coat. Though he had no shirt underneath and his clothes could practically take on a life of their own at this point, there was no time to be wasted. Sprinting across the compound, he pulled the camo netting from his Gouf Ignited and climbed atop the machine, opening it's cockpit at which point he jumped in and quickly began booting the systems. The first order of business being to activate the comms "One mission transitions into another, just the way I like it," the green mono-eye of his crimson read machine flickered to life, his view screen following suit.

Head: Green Torso: Green Left Arm: Green Right Arm: Green Left Leg: Green Right Leg: Green Shield: GreenRayce tapped the hand controls of his Leo impatiently, waiting for its operating system to boot up completely. The rumors about a gundam being buried in that base revealed by that earthquake put him on edge and he was anxious to get going and claim that suit. Gundams were such legendary machines that his usually cool head was left to brood on the thought of it and he only half paid attention as his Leo picked itself up off the transport truck. Wonder just how advanced a machine it is. What're its weapons like? How powerful are its sensors? Just how strong is this 'Gundanium Alloy' they're supposedly made of? So much s**t I wanna know!He was so engrossed in his thoughts about the damage that gundam could cause that he didn't notice right away that Taras' Gouf Ignited was active. When he finally glanced at his side screen to see the electrical signature the Gouf was giving off Rayce grit his teeth in anger. The first thing that came to mind was that Taras was still gone and the second thing he thought of was that someone must be trying to take his mobile suit. At current he didn't have his firearms, the suit's weapons being stored in a milvan not that far away from the trucks, but his Leo had its shield and he always had his Heat Hawk stored there. The butt of the weapon slid out from under the edge of the shield, the haft telescoping the axe out to full length, and the Leo's open right hand grabbed the handle and pulled the melee weapon free.
The edge of the Heat Hawk instantly turned bright red with the heat that was produced by the electric current running through it and Rayce's Leo readied the weapon against the still kneeling Gouf. Rayce shot a communication line towards the other suit, knowing that since they both saw each other as friendly mobile suits it would bring up the line automatically, and his face would pop up on the front monitor of the other cockpit. The snarl on his face from the anger that was boiling up at the thought of someone stealing his friend's suit was the kind of gnashed teeth a wolf would give a possible challenger. "You better have a damn good reason for- oh, Taras. You're back," came the bewildered sound of his voice as he realized it was his friend and not a thief.
The heat to the edge of his weapon dissipated and the Leo returned it to its slot under its shield. At the same time Rayce continued with, "You sure took your sweet ******** time. What the hell were you doing, anyway?" He greeted his friend nonchalantly like always but in reality he was relieved that Taras managed to make it back in time. Two suits were always better than one. Now all that was left was Vladimir. "Well whatever. I assume you know what's going on," he asked as his Leo made its way over to the mobile suit storage and pulled out its Dober Gun. The suit was programmed to self-load weapons, thanks to Vladimir, and the shoulder slot for the large bore weapon secured and bolted itself down on the Leo's remaining hardpoint. Next came the 105mm rifle, which the suit carried by its handle in the left hand in preparation for transport.

”Yes, Rayce, I’m back,” he said with a low, almost dark chuckle. ”You wound me by thinking someone would be able to steal my machine with all the safety precautions I have in place,” Taras by nature was very paranoid about his machine, afterall, he’d constructed it after analyzing the structure of another suit then building the Erebus in it’s image, albeit with several modifications and with weapons he himself felt were better suited for mobile suit on mobile suit combat. There was also the matter of his suit’s custom operating system which no one but him could activate. In addition to necessary passcodes, it also required a retinal and handprint scan. Not something you could duplicate without taking an eye and one of Taras’ hands off, or cloning him outright. Both scenarios seemed highly improbable.
As the Erebus finally stood tall, Taras began performing all the necessary system checks. "You sure took your sweet ******** time. What the hell were you doing, anyway?" Rayce never presented a boring moment. ”The usual, old friend. Scouting, Recon, Hunting, that sort.” "Well whatever. I assume you know what's going on," crimson]”Indeed I do, which is why I’ll give you a full report upon our return, right now we need to focus on getting the suits loaded onto the Medea and getting out of here as soon as possible,” All systems were normal. The Slayer whip was retracted, the grenade racks were filled with cracker grenades, all that remained was to grab his weapon and load the Erebus onto the Medea. Inwardly, it felt as though he’d been gone away a lifetime from the compound, which was the closest thing he had to a home since leaving Granada on the Moon years ago.
Following the Leo with Erebus, Taras manipulated it’s arm to retrieve the MMP-80 90mm machine gun from it’s storage space. The opposite arm cocked the weapon, indicating it was locked and loaded. ”Well then…let’s take up our carriage then and go pick up our prize,” turning the Erebus in the opposite direction, Taras piloted it toward the landing strip where the crew had already positioned it outside the docking bay for ease of loading the equipment and mobile suits. Times like these made him wonder where Vlad was, though Rayce and Vladimir were like brothers to him, on a genetic level, due to their being "created" in the same lab, he and Vlad were very much like brothers, even if they didn't know it until later in life. If they were to claim the Gundam as their own, he could very well use the technology as a means to boost the abilities of the Steel Wolves' mobile weapons, in addition to taking the fight to the Federation in order to finally get back all his Father's research and find out the location of his Father's remains.

Head: Green Torso: Green Left Arm: Green Right Arm: Green Left Leg: Green Right Leg: Green Shield: GreenRayce rubbed his chin in thought, considering the option of taking the Medea instead of just convoying over to Mongolia. It would certainly save them quite a bit of travel time but the space on the transport would be limited with two mobile suits loaded onto it. Rayce turned on the speaker in his Leo so the men on the ground would be able to hear him when he said, "Alright boys. Looks like Taras and me are takin' the Medea. I still want the convoy to head out though. You'll meet us there and help ship stuff out. If things get too dicey I'll radio you and let ya know to turn around."With that Rayce turned his Leo away from the convoy of trucks and headed onto the air strip with Taras and his Gouf. "You know that fuel for that beast is expensive, right? I just hope that we hit some sort of paydirt down there or this will be a big waste." Now he was worried about the expenditure of fuel to their most important transport but the tone to his voice betrayed the fact that it didn't weight too heavily on his mind. As his Leo took its place in one of the four mobile suit docks inside the double hangar Rayce did a quick system check on the atmospheric flight pack and high mobility thrusters that were attached to the dock and sitting at the ready. When they would get close enough to Mongolia he would attach the thrusters for the drop but until then he would leave them off."Hey. Lemme get a pilot up here. We'll need someone to land this beast after we drop," he said over to commo, eliciting a 'gotcha' from the one manning the equipment. Shortly after a middle aged Russian with a scar on his right cheek and a bit of a limp made his way up through the hangar and past the mobile suits to head up into the cockpit. It was about at that time that Rayce was leaving his Leo and he called out to the pilot as he passed by. "Glad you were up to it Gorvachev! I like having our best flyer for s**t this big!" The man merely held up his hand in greeting to Rayce and muttered something that he couldn't hear.

The convoy was still a good idea incase they needed backup for any reason. Not much your standard rifle was going to do to a mobile suit, RPG-7’s on the other hand and some well placed explosives, that was a different story altogether. The Steel Wolves had developed many anti-mobile suit warfare tactics without the use of mobile suits. It also involved radio operated explosives and missile launchers just to name off a few methods, again, this type of thinking was what separated them from everyone else. They weren’t just your everyday pirates out to get paid, they were well trained and well equipped. They were known for making someone useless into something useful and using it against you in the worst way possible. Part of it was because of Rayce’s cutthroat manner, the other part because of Taras and Vladimir’s combined Coordinator minds.
Alas the booby trap method was going to be much help this time around, as Taras was sure they would not be the only birds flocking to this prized nest. ”Before I went to the Carpathians, Vlad and I did a few modifications to the Medea. We converted the fuel system to a dual jet/bio-fuel system, since there’s such an abundance of methane gas, especially from waste. While it still requires jet fuel from time-to-time, we can run it almost primarily off of methane gas. They used a similar mixture in North American during the 20th century called natural gas,” he explained. They didn’t do it because they were hippies or gave a damn about being good to the environment or pleasing the EPA, they did it because methane gas was much easier to come by than jet fuel, especially considering how expensive the stuff was and that the Federation controlled majority of the world’s population. ”Whether we retrieve the Gundam or not, there will be others there, if we can’t get the Gundam, we’ll take what we can from the others. You have to look at the bigger picture, afterall, Rayce.” he said with a smirk.
Picking up Erebus’ rifle, Taras piloted his suit to the Medea where he entered up the landship’s ramp into the cargo belly where the mobile suit storage racks waited. Positioning the Erebus into the gantry, it was locked in place by the restraints. At which point an additional catwalk position itself infront of the torso, the torso then opened to reveal the cockpit interior. Leaping out of the cockpit, Taras tapped a few keys prompting the cockpit to close. Looking to Rayce’s Leo, Taras leaned on the side railing of the catwalk waiting for Rayce to exit his suit. Gorvachev had offered himself up as a pilot for this mission. Like Rayce, Taras was relieved to have Gorvachev along with them on this mission. Gorvachev was one of their best, not just a pilot, but a damn good fighter as well. “Dobro požalovat' comrade!” he called out to Gorvachev in Russian. "Do get us in the air quickly Gorvachev, the longer we dawdle here, the less chance we'll have of getting the Gundam"

Head: Green Torso: Green Left Arm: Green Right Arm: Green Left Leg: Green Right Leg: Green Shield: GreenRayce made his way up to the cockpit of the Medea after he did a once over on his mobile suit's docking bay, making sure everything was fitted properly. Last thing he needed was a faulty clamp and his suit coming loose in transport. Everything checked out so he put his mind back on track with taking off as he entered the cockpit and took one of the side seats. Gorvachev was seated on the center controls and he had an AK-47 propped up against his seat next to him. Rayce had asked him why he carried such a powerful weapon with him all the time and the only response he got was, "It pays to be ready." Rayce didn't question the man on it after that, knowing he wouldn't get much more out of him."Strap yourselves in boys and girls. We're taking off momentarily," Gorvachev said over the intercom, more as a joke than anything else. He hit the switch for the engines and the large transport roared to life around the three of them, bringing up displays on the consoles in regards to the ships status. With a light pull of the controls the turbines picked up a bit and started taxying the Medea out onto the airstrip proper, preparing for take-off. Hitting a few extra switches up above to help increase fuel flow for the ascent he gave Rayce and Taras a few more minutes to get themselves situated and strapped in.
Rayce wasted no time in hooking up his harness and sat fidgeting in his seat, eager for take off. His thoughts were still on that gundam and what it could do, not really caring about anything else at the moment. Another thought did come to him for a second and he couldn't help but voice it. "Sucks that Vladimir couldn't make it. Coulda used him."
