I love the idea of the Bard's College, but it just seems like a bunch of fetch quests. What do you think about it?

its not a bunch of fetch quests.....its like....five...then it ends...theres nothign past that

I remember, my first character, I had fetched all three instruments, tried to turn them in and indeed did, sort of...Except for some reason, they were stuck in my inventory, weighted, useless. The quest did complete though at least, but still. Trapped with them forever...

Now, with my second character, it seems that was fixed. However, I managed to come across the lute before actually getting the quest to fetch it. Not it appears that I have a permanent quest marker to go get it. Far less annoying, but still. Makes me feel lazy to have such an otherwise full quest list...Sigh.

Oh, anyone ever deal with the Bards leap? Drop down the large waterfall to get free training?

Thank you...

Never did the Bards Leap. You say there's free training? For what skill?

With all the talk about the Bards College in the game, I expected more from it then what we got. Its rather sudden ending seems a bit of a drag. Heck, even after completeing it you still get told you should join it.

Greetings;

I seem to recall it was just speech...I don't think it was for anything else. Bet in Oblivion it would have also boosted acrobatics or something. Of course if you really want to train speech, talk to the dark elf behind the counter at the black briar meadery in riften. Ask him about what he REALLY thinks about Maven. Either bribe, ask or coerce. Either way, if you succeed, you can just keep right on doing it again and again and again...Until you have finished it out.

Thank you...

Although the fetch quests can get a beet boring at times, it is all exp and I enjoy being there.
It dose have its perks and I am a bit of a bard character in real life so it really fits.

Never did get back into it... Like omasato_jigoku said, that flute got stuck in my inventory. I actually did enjoy that first quest though, and the burning of King Olaf festival.

I also enjoyed the first quest. Overall however I was quite disappointed by the Bard's College as I had been so excited about joining it. Seemed like such a half heated addition to the game. Fittingly my experiences with them ended with a dragon and vampire dual attack killing my favourite member of the guild college.

ROFL!!! That's kind of awesome.

I do kind of wish they'd added some stuff but unless they were going to make the bards their own faction with a specific skillset, I guess it didn't make sense. Still, it would have been interesting...

I don't mind the college. I wish there were more mods for the PC version to make it better, I really wished it had been better created so you could actually play instruments and such. Maybe even connected it to the Civil war so you picked a side and could travel with a group to keep morale up. Or generally just made it so if you played at a camp it gave the fighters a buff, like a magic blessing. Meh maybe I just like roleplaying to much.
I do like the semi lore aspect behind it though.

There's a great mod for the PC version which allows you to become a bard. You can purchase songbooks and play the songs on their respective instruments, and doing so increases your speech skill. In addition, you can go into any tavern and ask to perform, and once you finish a song you are awarded some gold and allowed to spend the night there for free. The more you play in taverns, the more your "bard skill" increases (though it's not a skill tree), and you gain more gold from playing. It's not much money, starting at like 10g and ending at like 100g or so, but it's a fun immersion feature.
