I honestly HATE silly avatars. Some are funny, but I would never waste my valuable and kindly earned gold on something that's laughed at. Honestly I want my avatar to look neat! I also don't like clutter. I. Hate. Clutter.
I also tend to live elemental-type avatars. As long as they're not mono-coloured.
I love fancy avatars, or elegant ones. Princess/queen/bride/royalty ones are a bit overrated, but I occasionally see one I like.
So what are your favorite types of avatars? Which ones do you hate?

I hate avatars that are black from head to toe.
At least a little colour would be nice! Also avies
that are trying to be "goth"/"emo". Originality, please?
I like avatars that have a clear colour scheme. Also,
like you, Kerize, I love elegant avatars-- so long as
they are original and done well. <3

I kind of like the silly ones, if they aren't silly just because of a weird combination of random items. Planned silliness is key.
I'm a big fan of avatars that "cosplay" my favorite movie/TV characters (and/or Bowie personas), but I prefer to do my own avatars will either a color scheme or a mild theme.

I love, LOVE avatars that do something unique,
how many of us has seen like at least 100 naruto cosplays?
Every month I try to enter in avatar contests,
just because I enjoy layering the items to create something new.

Other than that I play a lot of zOMG and pinball.
I'm the Captain of zOMGuardians.
I have a weak spot for scene kids,
but usually critique it too much //.^
I also play music, and do graphic art
(my signature for instance)

I make my avatars by myself on tektek and I use 3 and only 3 colors in each one, i think if i use more or less than 3 colors it just doesnt look put together........um PM or comment me if you ever need a dream avi, just give me the run down on what you like, and i'll be glad to do it!! smile

Well, I work in a tektek shop... lol.
I absolutely hate hate hate generic avatars.
(Gentle curls, eyes no.5, sparkles, slippers, the usual)
We almost never make them in the shop, and I'd never use one myself.
As for my own avatars,
I like when they have a classic feel to them,
I can appreciate silly or cutesy avatars, but I'd never use them.
My favorite avatar of mine so far,
was classy with a touch of sexy and a touch of dark.
I can tektek about anything though <3

Mine can be silly but I'd only use stuff I already have. My current one though plays off of the pink look I'm trying to achieve. I think I did a good job XP

I hate monochromatic schemes. C'mon people, let's put a little effort into these things xD
BUT, I love the "cluttered" looking ones that are cohesive and you don't notice that they're cluttered until you view the equipped list.
Thematic avatars always get to me. So do the cosplay ones.

I like making avatars that really match, I don't mean kind of match, I mean to a freaking T.
Themes can be fun too, I like warrior-themed/battle avis, and super-peaceful avis.
I did a chick war avi that was pretty bad a** a ways back...
those are my favorite themed avis ^^

i also hate certain avatars because sometimes you can only change them once a month depending on a website. it sucks when that happens because you dont always want the same look. then it also sucks when they have to work on the website because the avatars wont work at all then you have to wait for awhile. I hate when that happens too. then you cant even change anything about your character in the web site.

I decided a while ago that I was going to make my avi more like what I'm like... but with a few cool items thrown in for good luck (because scarves IRL don't always play nice!).
I'm not a fan of cluttered avatars; okay, some are okay, but it's not always pulled off well. ^^;
