Visiting Hours

The hour was late, and as the clock struck one, everyone in the Pi residence had already gone to their rooms. Quilt was tucked in his crib, Sim was wrapped in his blanket, Khun Ying was nodding off in bed, Marl was snoring softly into his pillow, Malady was in the rafters again and Huni, well, Huni was still wide awake. She had received a letter from some village called Elsas asking her to pay a visit.

The red head was dubious and reluctant in going, she had to look after Quilt and it was rather obvious that the infant needed a lot of care. As she mulled over her decision, she heard a crash coming from downstairs. Jade eyes widened, as it a burglar?! She scanned her room for a weapon, and cursed when she found the most lethal object in her room was a lamp.

Making a mental note to buy a bat sometime soon, Huni grabbed the lamp and tiptoed downstairs. Was it odd that she was only one who went to investigate? It seemed that way to Huni, but not to the intruder. A shadow was skulking about the living, fumbling for the lightswitch. When Huni turned the lights on, she gasped at the sight.

"Nyne?! What are you doing here?"

The blonde waved sheepishly at Huni, "Did I wake you? Sorry, I thought I set the silence-feed on for everyone. Guess you're immune to it too."

"Again, what are you doing here?" Huni narrowed her eyes, she didn't quite trust Nyne and wasn't all too fond of him.

"I'm on vacation leave." He shrugged, blue eyes twinkling in delight. "Besides, I've always wanted to visit Gaia. Why don't you house me for a while? I can be a lot of help with the housework."

"I don't think so," Huni frowned. "I have more than enough children to take care of, I don't want to add another one to my list."

"Well that's just mean of you." Nyne whimpered, "I am capable of fending for myself you know. And you don't have to keep me here forever, just long enough for me to find a place to settle down in."

The corners of Huni's mouth suddenly curved upwards, "Oh really? I know just the place..."

Good To Meet You

When Huni give him directions to his new accomodations, Nyne never expected the distance would be this far. Granted he managed to shorten what should have been a four days' worth of travel into one day, Nyne felt annoyed. He went to Gaia to take a break from using his abilities, he didn't expect he'd end up using them so soon.

Crumpled paper in hand, Nyne finally arrived at the specified location Huni had given him. He was to declare some words (a password to the village, he assumed) in order to be granted entrace. Once he finished reciting them, a portal opened and he found himself in the village of Elsas.

"What what that all about?!" he groaned, realizing that all the while he could have just recited the words and arrive here earlier. He pondered on what prank to play on Huni once he got back but reverted his attention to the village.

It was a lot cozier than he expected to be honest. It was homey, mystical, and the large tree in the very center of the village left him open-mouthed in awe.

"I guess Huni didn't have it in for me after all." He chuckled. As he explored the village, his gaze kept returning to the large tree and finally gave in to his curiosity. He inspected the gnarled bark with an eye that belonged to someone who knew nothing about plants. Still, he found the shade beneath the tree's huge branches a comfortable spot for a nap.

Just as he began to doze off, he sensed a presence approach. He prepared himself to flee, in case whoever it was had hostile intentions. But after several minutes of silence passed, Nyne peered through his lashes and found a little girl staring at him.

"Yeah? You need something, kid?" he asked in a tone an older brother used when talking to a younger sibling.

The child moved closer until only mere inches separated her face from Nyne's. "Are you my new daddy?"

Nyne's blue eyes grew to the size of dinner plates upon the child's question, "Say WHAT?! Look, kid, even though I technically am old enough to be your daddy (your grand-daddy even) but I sure as hell ain't gonna be your daddy." Nyne cringed and scrambled onto his feet.

"But you got my lett'r." She pointed at the crumpled scrap Nyne held in his hand. "Some nice person told me they wrote a lett'r asking someone to come here and be my mommy or daddy. And cuz you have it, you're my new daddy!" she declared brightly, throwing her arms around Nyne's legs.

"No. Way." Nyne's features darkened, "Huni tricked me!? Oh she is dead! Look kid, there's been some mistake here. I ain't here because I'm gonna be your daddy, I'm here because I need a place to stay."

The girl blinked at his words and suddenly started to tug at him to follow her, "You can stay with me if you'll be my daddy." She offered, and give him a doe-eyed look that nearly melted Nyne.

Sighing reluctantly, the blonde agreed, "Alright, I'll take care of you, but don't call me daddy. You can call me bro' Nyne or just Nyne. By the way, what's your name, kid?"

"Janan." She chirped and gave her guardian a great, big hug.

Settling In

Nyne and his new 'sister' were getting along well enough, the village was quiet and peaceful and there didn't seem to be too many people who were asking questions. It seemed almost perfect.

Too perfect.

It took Nyne a few months to realize what was wrong with the village of Elsas. Even though there were people and other kids around to talk to and things, it was boring for Nyne.

"Isn't there anything fun to do here?" he muttered, leaning back in the hammock he had bought a few weeks after he had arrived. It wasn't easy finding a job when you look too young to be experienced, but the amount of odd jobs and the relatively affordable prices enabled him and Janan to survive.

Soft footsteps made their way towards the gateway guardian, and the rustle of cloth made it evident it was Janan.

"Bro' Nyne, tell me a story." the child asked, tugging at the blonde's sleeve.

"Do I gotta?" he whined, the way an older brother would when bothered.

"But you were just saying you didn't have anything fun to do..." Janan sniffled, knowing how easily tears influenced Nyne's decisions.

"Oh no, don't you dare!" He sat up slowly, frowning at the child.
