The Egg It needs to be said that Divine was not actually a bird – he had the wings of a swan and his hair color seemed to follow the patterns of their wings, going from grey to white with time, but he was definitely not a real bird. Because of this, when his husbands decided to track down and get him the egg of a swan child, he didn't have the foggiest idea of what to do with the egg, besides not letting anyone eat it.
Determined to try and care for his gift without spending hours looking up what one is supposed to do to hatch an egg, the man did what he thought was needed here – made a nest. Formed with blankets and pillows with the help of some of the other children in the house, the white haired male arranged the little egg and kept it where he could monitor it. Days often found the elder swan seated on the couch with the egg in her nest beside him, his hand idly moving to pat and sometimes adjust the egg. It wasn't really necessary to touch or move it around, but it made Divine feel like he was actually doing something to help the baby hatch and paying some attention to it.
However, Divine wasn't the only one concerned for the hatching of this strange baby. Kodiak – the child Divine had got before receiving this egg – was particularly interested in seeing it hatch too. The boy was a bear that had hatched from a cabbage, and a rather shy one at that, but his family was highly important to him and this baby was going to increase the size of that family. As such, the clawed boy and his twin brother – a bright pink bunny called Kuschel – were often found curling up by the nest and snuggling the egg.
Once, Kodi had ended up talking to his aunt – a girl called Tezza whose little brother was one of these songbirds – about what to do with the egg. She'd mentioned washing it and that they'd tried to keep it at a stable temperature, so the bear boy had attempted that too. However, that had just ended up with them making the egg shiny and dripping water all over the place so the plan was abandoned. Divine had been very proud of the boy, and had even given him a special treat for being so helpful.
Really, for such a small thing, the swan egg was earning a lot of fuss. However, as it meant a new baby on the way and the fun that might entail, it was okay to fuss over it. Though Divine did sometimes wonder if his husbands were a little crazy thinking he'd know what to do with an egg. But he'd just laugh those thoughts off, remembering how happy they'd been that he'd liked it, and being amused over how wonderful his family was that they tried to get him a child who was at least similar in species to him – since lord knows, the ones he was carrying might not be.
After having had the little one a while, they'd made up a list of good possible names. For a girl, Gail and Amanda were the two favorite choices, while for a boy, it was James and Eric. Personally, Divine was with Pash in hoping that it'd be female – with ten people already in the house and only two of them being girls, there needed to be a bit more balance. That, and the man knew that his husband probably needed another little girl, since his was all grown up and his second daughter was more concerned with her Shark. As for Pyran, he'd probably be fine no matter what.
With an idle sigh, the white haired male lightly adjusted the small fragile gift in its little nest. Things were going to get even more interesting around there, with the arrival of that child. And he really couldn't wait.
