"I certainly will." He said enthusiastically as his smile broadened. "...Well, I'll stay out of your hair for the most part..." He said with a small chuckle as he made his way to the door. "Adieu, Dr. Lowland." He said as he went out the door, heading back to his classroom. His normal spring in his step and a smile stuck on the good doctors face, Dorian quickly rushed passed the hallway straight through his room and into his personal laboratory...

Shaking her head at his exuberance, she called after him, "See you soon." With that, she took to moving her books to the table at the front of the classroom in preparation of the students. Only when they were in three neat piles did she move on to her office. True to form, the lessons for the first week were written on the half of her bulletin board that was dry erase neatly in black marker, and the events that she was sponsering or chaperoning this year were neatly pinned to the cork half. Her desk, however, was slightly another matter. There were papers placed there by the office aids, about moving students in. With a sigh, she sat behind her desk and set to work.

Chloe, as was her habit, slept in her office in her wolf form. As soon as her alarm on her phone started blaring, to her though to a human it was rather soft, the tawny-toned wolf stood from its bed and stretched out its limbs with a yawn. Shaking out its fur, it shape blurred before reforming into a standing Literature teacher bare as when she was born. Her standard clothes were folded and waiting for her on her desk from where she took them off the night before, and she slipped them over her head. Thankfully, her short hair let her finger comb the tangles out and it fell as she liked it, and what little make-up she wore was easy to apply. Slipping on her glasses, she picked up the stack of papers that would form her syllabi she had prepared previously for her to staple later and walked out of the office into her actual classroom.

Setting the stack of papers down in the empty slot designated for them by the stacks of Agatha Christie novels, Chloe made sure the role list for her first class of the day was on her podium so she could check off students at the beginning of the period tomorrow, her favorite violet pen sitting on the lip of the wooden prop, and that her classroom was still clean. Her satchel was waiting by the door for her, her key safely returned to its inner pockets. She picked up a piece of chalk and wrote on the blackboard half of her writing surfaces in her plain, slightly curvy lettering that was legible no matter who read it, "Dr. Lowland," in large characters with, "Literature," underneath. If a student wandered in early tomorrow, they would know they were in her room.

Setting down the chalk, Chloe picked up a green dry-erase marker and wrote on the other surface, "Please pick a seat and sit down. You are welcome to talk until the bell rings." Satisfied with her work, she added tomorrow's date in the corner, put the cap back on her marker, set in down in the tray, and walked over to the door. She picked up her satchel on the way out, closing her door behind her. The cafeteria should have a bowl of oatmeal, already with sugar, milk, and banana slices in it, waiting for her to eat with her morning cup of tea.

Walking into her classroom once she left the cafeteria, Chloe dedicated the afternoon to finishing putting together her syllabus. That night, she was upset to discover she had left her book somewhere on campus. Only able to hope that someone would bring it to her, she laid down that night distressed.

The next morning, she was sitting behind her desk, a cup of tea in her hands as she had already run down to the cafetria that morning. Her nerves had returned, and she was nervously tracing the rim of her coffee cup. She feared no one would show, it wouldn't surprise her. It was rare for a student to be interested in Literature of all subjects. However, she also didn't want to flunk people because they didn't know what their homework assignments were. Nibbling on her lower lip, she tried not to watch the classroom door too anxiously.

Meandering down the halls leading from the dorm rooms to the schoolways, DJ makes his way to this place. He notices a few other students, some rushing, some taking their time like him, arrive at the door as well. They're all chatty, like most students are. DJ isn't chatty. He never has been. Nope, in silence and solitude is where he resides. If he were able to listen to his music in class, that would probably be the song he'd turn to, but alas... music in school is usually a big no-no, so he keeps his MP3 player in his pocket.

So this is the place, eh? The literature class. Literature's a pretty fun thing to be in. Read books, talk about them, pretty easy going, and almost fun in some ways. In his other school, literature was one of his best subjects. That may of been because of the nice and easy going teacher he had, or because of his keen eye to symbols and allusions, who knows maybe a little of both.

Quite honestly, DJ hates books of all shapes and forms. He's never gotten into the whole "reading for fun" deal. He's lived by a strict code: if it don't got pictures, and it ain't the Bible, then it ain't for me. That being said, he adores comics. Oh yeah, comics, manga, all that good stuff. That's where it's at.

But there are no comics or manga in this class. No... literature, like most other school subjects, is all about work, work he's willing to do, but work nonetheless. Whatever, all he can do is suck it up, put his dislike for non-picture books (aka graphic novels) aside, and take whatever this teacher has to give him.

"Oh, hello," Dr. Lowland greeted her first student with a soft smile. "If you'll just take a seat, I'll hand out the syllabus in a moment. It will cover everything you need to know." Tilting her head, Chloe took in her first and so far only student, though a few others began to trickle in soon. He was not what she was expecting, though she suppose that was just her university brain talking. "Alright, everyone, settle down," she called when the bell rang, signalling the beginning of her first morning class. "Welcome to Literature. I trust finding the classroom wasn't too much of a hassle this morning. If you will bear with me a moment, I need to take roll to see who is attending this class so I am aware who to expect in my other morning and my afternoon classes." Patiently making her way through her list, she nodded in satisfaction, the number not higher than she would expect for the early morning class.

"Now, if you will please take one and pass the rest to the others in the room," Chloe said, counting out syllabi and starting equal halves on each side of the room. "This is the syllabus for the class through the year. We'll be covering a good deal of material in here, and you will be expected to read outside of class." Once everyone had a copy of her syllabus, the werewolf went through it carefully to make sure it was understood. In particular, she emphasised the importance of attending class on Wednesdays, simply because of the quizes, graded discussions, and essays. At the last page, where she listed the books she was going to cover, she paused after her first Shakespeare play. "For the sake of my novels, please don't take your copy of A Midsummer Night's Dream to Mystic Arts," she added. "I doubt Professor Valentine will approve of me teaching this particular play." In fact, Chloe had a sneaky suspicion that Valentine would burn any copy he found in his classroom. However, she didn't voice this to her students.

The teacher seems well enough for this class. She’s got a brown bob of hair, which is a pretty teacherly thing for a teacher to have. She even has the teacher glasses. Her style is pretty stern, at least based on her appearance. She looks like she’s pouting or somethin’. It’d be best not to get on her bad side, but from the looks of things, that’ll be slightly difficult. Just play it cool, and it’ll be alright. Her job is to teach, mine is to learn. Keep to that, and this year should go by fairly easy.

DJ takes to his seat pretty swiftly. A nice spot in the front of the room. He tends to drift to the front most of the time. He finds it the best spot for listening and understanding, and as an added bonus, he won’t have to maneuver himself to see past other people’s heads. That gets pretty annoying pretty fast. In his seat taking process, he hardly paid any attention to the teacher greeting him. Unknowingly, he may of come off slightly rude, but oh well, such as his nature.

After the other stragglers settled in, the teacher got right down to business. Passing out the syllable, going over, you know, the boring yet mandatory part of every first day. For the most part, DJ just drifts into his own realm. He knows the rules. They’re generally all the same. Don’t do stupid stuff, try to learn, don’t be obnoxious… yeah, the stuff everyone knows but ends up doing anyway. His other classes’ll probably be like this, too. It is the first day, right? He’ll probably be daydreaming a lot.

Don’t let his mind drifting fool you, though. He may have a habit of not paying attention in the midst of boredom, but the key points somehow always make their way into his head. Back home, he and his friends called this phenomenon “learning by osmosis.” One thing he did pick up on was something about A Midsummer Night’s Dream. A book… without pictures, so it’s not surprising that he hasn’t heard of it. Come to think of it, he hasn’t heard of a lot of books. Was there a summer reading list he should’ve looked to? If so, then he’s SOL.
