Nefar grinned. *I imagine the old satyr was yelling at the top of his lungs too. And I missed it. Darn! But yes, I'll help you. There is a back entrance to this place but it's rather small. We might need someone to go in there and check later.*
He was eyeing the mudges again. They were acting nervous about something. Deciding to keep an eye on them, the wyrm began moving around the next portion of the tree. Afterall, who knew the indications of mischief than one who quite often got into trouble?
*There are alot of others in the area today too, Gailen. We might want to talk to them afterwards. Who else is helping?*

Chael and Angeni started by lowering their heads to the ground and looking for clues. This proved more difficult than it first seemed, as they found themselves bumping into other creatures who were doing the same thing. Looking so carefully at the ground in front of them, it was hard to keep track of what was around them. It was a slow process to circle the area of the store. Having considered going different ways and meeting at the other side, they decided instead to go side by side to cover a larger area.
Meanwhile Yss the snake tried to keep out of the way, figuring his sliding manner could quite possibly disturb evidence and make the whole quest more difficult.

Angeni's companion, Neveah the butterfly, flew up into the tangled branches above the store. Seeing as everyone was searching the ground, she figured that perhaps someone ought to check the treetops for clues also. Fluttering higher and higher, she scanned each of the branches for anything out of place.

Gailen looked up again at Nefar. "You could go talk to them, if you like, while I look around here?" He had paused beneath a window in the shop to one of the myriad rooms inside. "That way we can two things at once."
He paused at the last question. "I don't know who else is looking for clues, really...." He cast a glance around. "But noone was helping me before you came."

Having completed their scan of the surrounding forest floor, Chael and Angeni stop to ponder what to do next.
"Hmm, who should we talk to first, do you think?" Chael asked Angeni.
"Let's try those three chirras, they look friendly and they are chatting, so maybe they are talking about what happened." Angeni looked off to the left where the chirras were gathered.
"Sounds like a good way to start," agreed Chael, glad that Angeni had not suggested entering the store and talking to Old Nick.
So the two unicorns approached the chirras nearby.
"Excuse me, pleased to meet you, but we were wondering if you saw who took Old Nick's belongings?" Angeni ventured.

Nefar nodded. *If you find anything let me know. I'm going to go see what the Centaur is doing. Maybe there is a reason he's here.* He began moving away but then stopped looking at the mudges and then at Gailen.
*Gailen,* he said softly, *keep an eye out on those mudges and that bunyip. They are up to something.*
Then he moved purposefully towards the centaur, stepping around and over the roots and rocks in the area.
*I was wondering if you knew anything about Old Nick's items that were stolen.* he asked, watching for telltale signs of mischief. He knew those all too well.

((All story posts will be in red... Don't forget to talk to someone directly to get answers. And Nick's shop is not large enough for the larger creatures to enter, so bear that in mind as well.))
As the various groups looked around the area, the centaur stared at Nefar, his eyes narrowing. Folding his arms over his chest, he stood his ground not the least intimidated by the wyrm.
"I had nothing to do with that. I'm merely waiting on someone." he stated, his gaze watching Nefar directly.
*Who are you? Did you see anything that might help?* he asked, as he tilted his head towards the mudges. They were arguing over something they had in the middle of them. The bunyip stood to the side watching, a smirk on his face.
*My bwodden..* one mudge grumbled as the other grabbed at the item.
"I'm Aldis, and I'm just passing through here. And I don't have a clue who Old Nick is or even what you are talking about. I only know there was an old satyr yelling about something earlier." he replied. "And I have better things to do than stand here with you." Shaking his head the centaur moved away. He wished that hawk would hurry up. There were other things to do.
The three female chirras stopped talking as the unicorns spoke to them. One shrugged as the other two glanced at each other.
"I heard something last night. It sounded like laughter. I decided it was the wind." the first chirra stated.
"The wind." the second scoffed. "I told you that it was just Old Nick going nuts again."
"That didn't sound like his laughter, but more feminine."
"Maybe he had a girl over. Satyrs do that, you know."
The third shook her head. "I didn't hear anything but these two have been going on and on about hearing a girl laughing from inside his shop. I think they are both nuts."
"I doubt any female in her right mind would look at that old goat."
"Well, you aren't a satyr female to know, now are you?" she giggled in reply. "I would imagine he was quite handsome for a satyr at some point. Perhaps he still is to them. Who can say what they like? I've never asked."
The bickering back and forth continued as they entirely ignored the unicorns. The third chirra finally shook her head walking away. Those two were prone to argue about anything and everything.

((The chirras are very funny! xd ))
"Ah, thanks for your help," said Chael uncertainly, as he was unsure if they were actually trying to help or if indeed they were helpful. He edged away, partly since the chirras were ignoring him and partly because he thought they might just stay there arguing for the rest of the day.
Angeni took her leave of the chirras also, glancing at Chael but waiting to speak until they got a good distance away. "Hmm, what do you make of that?" she asked Chael.
Chael looked thoughtful, then said "Well it's hard to say if we can assume whoever took Old Nick's things was a female, or if he just had a visitor last night. Or then again maybe the chirras are just a bit nuts and imagined the whole thing."
"Yes, well to eliminate the possibility of Old Nick having female company, we'd have to ask him. I'm not quite sure if that's a good idea." Angeni looked worried.
"Hmm, tricky indeed," agreed Chael. He thought for a bit then came up with a suggestion. "Maybe we could hedge around the question by asking a different question, a more broad question, such as 'Can you list who has been in your store in the last day?' Then we aren't sounding like we are checking up on his personal life or gossiping."
Angeni giggled. "Brilliant, I say we go with it." And she swung around in the direction of the store, hinting at Chael to go along too.
When they got over there they decided the doorway looked a bit of a tight squeeze, even for Angeni, who was smaller than Chael. So Angeni poked her head in, coughed politely and said "Um, excuse us please Old Nick, but we are trying to solve the mystery of your missing items. And we just wondered if you could tell us which woods creatures have have visited your store in the last day or so?" She held her breath, hoping he would realise they were attempting to help and not be nosy..

Gailen continued searching for paw/hoof/foot prints, but kept one eye on the troublemakers. Eventually, he couldn't stand it anymore. After all, he was a lot bigger than those mudges or even the bunyip!
So he turned, abandoned the soil around the tree, and marched over to the three. He arched his wings over his back a bit and spoke low and sternly.
"What have you got there? And what have you been up to? What do you know about Old Nick's robbery?" His deep voice was just this side of menacing. He would brook no trouble from these three, it said. He hoped he appeared convincing enough. He wasn't exactly afraid of them... he just did not especially like confrontation.
