Lack of fun

Since the birth of Ceres, Inuki has been as serious as possible to help the gorgone, who had a thing for depressed thoughts, to feel safe and secure. At the time, she thought it was the best solution.

However, when Elazul came out of his own egg, things changed.

On one side, you had the beautiful but sometimes depressive Ceres. On the other side, you had this jumi boy with a straight face which nothing could disturb.

Though both of them possessed a heart of gold (she could already tell by Elazul's attitude that he was a serious boy with a big heart in a few days), both kids needed to lighten up. Inuki, who has been very busy lately, needed fun as well to change the pace of things.

"Ok, kids. We're going out," she told them one morning during breakfast.

Ceres smiled at the thought of a nice relaxing walk with her mother and new brother but Elazul just continued to eat calmly.

"Where are we going?" asked Ceres.

"To the mysterian's house. You need to meet more people. We can also take the long road to enjoy the sun," explained Inuki. And being around so many different and troublesome mysterians, I know I am bound to have my load of fun, she thought to herself.

Elazul sipped the rest of the milk in his cereal bowl and licked his lips. "I'm not going anywhere unless we go back to my homeworld," he said.

"We can't go back now. You're too young and Ceres can't protect you all by herself yet."

"I don't care," said the jumi boy. "I need to search for others of my kind."

Ceres didn't know what to say so she kept her mouth shut. But she wished she could help her brother at the moment.

"Listen, it is too dangerous to go. Besides, if we ask about your kind to the others, maybe someone will give us some information," said Inuki.

"That's right," continued Ceres. "There is so many others. Maybe one of them know about the whereabouts of one of them or what they became."

Elazul looked at them, shifting his gaze to Inuki then Ceres then to Inuki again. "Fine. But I hope you're not saying this just to make me go."

"Of course not!" said Inuki at once. "Now get your things. We're leaving soon."

She watched them get up, rinse their dishes and go to their rooms. She sighed. That jumi boy is much more intelligent than he seems. He is going to be such a troublemaker I know it....

Too much fun

At the house, Elazul detached himself from the group after Inuki and Ceres presented him to everyone and were busy. Inuki was with the other guardians while Ceres was talking to little a winged demon.

There has to be a way to go back to my world, thought Elazul. This is the mysterian house. This means we all came from our wolrd to here.

He saw older mysterians on his exploration, but neither of them paid attention to him. And he didn't bother to know them. For him, the most important thing was to find a way back to his dying world to find out what happened to his people.

He entered Sian's room and saw where a mirror used to be. Nothing remained of it. He kneeled in front of it and investigated it. Broken... It can't be. How did I come here if it's broken? How come others managed to cross the gates of the worlds to come here after me?

For a child, this was getting out of hands. He didn't have the maturity to yet think of possible hypothesis. However, he decided to not give up. He was determined to know how to go back.

He sneaked out of Sian's room and went to Meru's room next. He didn't notice that he was followed. Silently, he expected it and found a large mirror inside the closet. He stared at it and touched it. Nothing happened.

I'm losing my time here. Those girls have nothing to do with us, mysterians. They just lied to us and probably created us, not saved us from a "dying world".

He turned away from the mirror when a hand grabbed him by the collar and pulled him through it. Before he saw Meru's room vanished, he saw a mermaid screaming his name.

To the dying world!

"Elazul has been kidnapped!" screamed Naida as she rushed downstairs. Inuki and Ceres couldn't believe it. They listened to her story, not sure how to react.

Ceres started to blame herself, saying she wasn't a good big sister and she should have watched him better. Inuki, on her side, just wanted to rush in and find him as soon as possible. She grabbed Ceres's arm and pulled her up of her chair.

"Crying won't help Elazul," she told the gorgone. "We have to act quickly. He's still too young to protect himself and his core. If anything happens to the core, he will be severely hurt or worst, die. You don't want that, don't you?"

Ceres shook her head and dried her tears. Inuki told the other mysterians and guardians that they will go inside the new portal by themselves but Inuki or Ceres will come back to ask for help if needed.

The group wasn't really comfortable with option but Inuki convinced them that Ceres's magic skills will be enough to find the little Jumi.

Hopefully, this little adventure will teach Ceres to have more confidence in herself and Elazul will learn to be more careful, Inuki thought as she and Ceres followed Naida to Meru's room.

The mermaid shown them the mirror and dragging Ceres with her, Inuki rushed in it, hoping they won't be late.

Sadness

Months passed since Ceres and Inuki went into the dying world of the mysterians in search of Elazul. People in the mysterian house started to despair, wondering if they perished.

But one day, when they less expected it, they came back. However, joy was not with them.

Ceres was the first one to pass through the mirror. She looked more mature, more grown up. She spent the last months learning spells and use them to protect herself and Inuki. Never, did she thought their last moments arrived. Not once she gave up. But nothing could have prepared her for this sad, sad event.

When Inuki passed through the mirror, all she held was a stone of a deep blue-green color. A lapis lazuli. It was Elazul's heart. Another jumi, named Sandra, kidnapped him for his heart. The reasons were unknown to them. After months of tracking, she found her and fought her. She had lots of other jewels - jumi's hearts - with her but they only managed to save Elazul's.

In the living room, silence fell when they saw them. The inhabitants didn't know if they should be happy or give them sympathy. Inuki just fell on her knees, looking at the jewel in her hands.

"I'm so sorry..." she whispered. A tear fell down her cheek and when it fell, Ceres watched in horror her mother turned to stone.
