Basically, everyone got so thrashed at Pat Murphy's funeral that they completely forgot about the body. When he woke up as a vampire, he was (with reasons) less than pleased.

But the guy from the comic is based from that song. He just wakes up later as a vampire with a grudge for the morons.
So he's forever emo and cynical! =D
