"Because I am." Caroline retorted. No, she would not be like her brother. She would not get so wrapped up in wanting to win that she would forget what was important. Winning would come later. Much, much later.
This girl was getting on her nerves though. Caroline had an appointment to keep. She would not waste precious minutes getting defensive. .... But darn it! She laughed at her! That was mean and it hurt her feelings!

Ever sighed softly and raised one of her hands to rub at her temple. The headache was coming back as she felt anger emanating from the new girl. Of course all this stuff had to happen today, the one day she didn't meditate. And what was worse, Ever could feel that this girl was mad at her. Great.
Ever dropped her hand, sighed once more, and got up from the rock. She went over to the double doors where the girl was. "Look, I'm sorry. That wasn't really a great welcoming. In fact, it wasn't very refine, either, which is what Bai Ching strives for from all of its students. Please don't think that my behavior is the norm here."
She opened up one of the doors and gestured inside. "I'll take you up to the Headmistress's office so you can get settled, if you don't mind me being the one to take you there."

Caroline pursed her lips. She wanted to be mad at this girl. And she didn't. And then she did again. And then she shrugged. There was really no reason to get angry. Terse, maybe, but not angry. Maybe the girl would sense that, how Caroline sighed and all the anger left her in one small breath of air.
"It's... okay." Well, no, it wasn't, but there wasn't much else Caroline could say without sounding like a b***h. I accept your apology? Too snobby. I should hope so? Even worse. "Please show me to the Headmistress's office."

In her office, Arielle was not unaware of the happenings down by the gate; far from it. She'd been discreetly watching from her window, as she'd been expecting this particular girl to come soon. She could have intervened at any moment, should she have so wished. However, she'd decided that she would let Evermore take care of it, a subtle quiz of sorts to ensure that the girl did know how to show herself. And, of course, Evermore had passed--not without a large bump, but she had passed.
Arielle smiled to herself and sat back at her desk, placing her reading glasses back on (more out of fashion than necessity, though she would never admit that), and glancing back over the topmost document once more before signing it. This is how Evermore and Caroline would find her; they would not know that the Headmistress had overseen their little encounter at the entrance.

Evermore smiled at the new girl, for what she said and for her new demeanor. Her head no longer hurt because she didn't sense strong anger coming off of her in waves anymore.
Once the girl was inside, Evermore nodded and said, "By the way, my name is Evermore ErinĂ½es. I'm a sophomore here at Bai Ching, and I'm also a Fury."
She started to lead the girl up the stairs, waiting for her response. Once they had climbed the 3 flights of stairs, Evermore paused in front of the Headmistress's office and knocked.

"Evermore... Erinya... no, nye... ni..." Caroline blushed. She was trying so hard to repeat Evermore's name. She really was. And she was so mortified that she was screwing it up so horribly. It was just like she figured, making a fool of herself on the first day of school. "... I'm sorry!"
Caroline followed the girl up three flights of stairs, introducing herself along the way. "I'm Caroline Enlil. I'm.... Oh, well, rowdiness runs in my family, so I think you'll find out by the end of the day." Grinning cheekily at Evermore, Caroline waited next to her at the Headmistress's door, her hands behind her back and her feet slightly apart.

Arielle didn't lift her head when she heard the knocking at her door, and simply allowed herself a small smile. "Come in," she called, putting down her quillpen and taking off her reading glasses.

Ever smiled at Caroline and forced down a laugh. She didn't think it'd do well to laugh again, even though she wouldn't be laughing at Caroline but more at her own difficult last name.
"If it helps, my last name is simply the Greek word for 'Furies'. Probably won't help with pronouncing it since it is very difficult, but at least you know what it means now."
Then, Ever tilted her head to the side and started thinking as after she heard Caroline say her last name. "Enlil? That sounds familiar. We learn basic information about all the magical schools in the world... Are you a relation to the Headmaster Enlil of the Mystic Fountain High School?"
Then, the door opened and Ever straightened up more. She walked into the office, curtsied, and smiled at her Headmistress. "Good afternoon again, Headmistress. This is Caroline Enlil, a new student here."

"Hehe..." Caroline chuckled nervously. "Well, actually -"
The door opened to the Headmistress's office. "G-Good afternoon, ma'am," Caroline said. She curtsied as well (as best as she could wearing pants, at least), but it was like a stiff, empty handshake. It was the greeting of someone trained to greet people she neither knew nor cared for simply for the sake of greeting them. After all, the business world could be like that sometimes.

Arielle smiled at the two girls. "Hello. Thank you, Evermore, for bringing Caroline to me." Turning to Caroline, she nodded. "Please, take a seat. You are Headmaster Ialo Enlil of Mystic Fountain's younger sister, am I correct?"

Carolina sat down in a chair facing the Headmistress's desk. "Yes ma'am," she answered proudly. Her brother was doing good, getting his name known all the way out here! Or, something notorious. Or maybe just plain stupid. But no matter how weak or stupid or bull-headed he could be, Ialo was her brother. Caroline loved him no matter what. She shyly brushed her bangs out of her face and behind her ear, repeating this five more times before her stark white hair relented and obeyed.

Ever nodded and curtsied once more, knowing that her Headmistress thanking her was her cue to leave. She was so ecstatic that she had been right about Caroline's last name! So she was MFHS's Headmaster's sister. Well, hopefully she wasn't expecting special treatment. To Ever, she seemed like a nice enough girl, but she hadn't talked that long with Caroline.
She backed out of the office and closed the door behind her. Then, she took off back down to the entrance to sit on the rock. Hmmm. Maybe she should go to the lake for a swim.

Arielle nodded at Caroline. "Ah, I had thought so. I hope you understand that this means I am hoping you will become somewhat of a role model for the other students, do you understand? Not many people will recognize your name or your family here, because technology isn't as prominent in these areas, but since you are the relative of a Headmaster, that would put a bit more... responsibility upon your shoulders." She took a moment to pause and make sure that Caroline understood where she was coming from.

"I figured as much already," Caroline admitted. "I have to be a star student, because whether I like it or not, people are going to look up to me anyways. It happened at home, it'll happen here, I'm sure ma'am." She was very serious, and met the Headmistress's gaze.
Caroline smiled playfully. "Honestly, the biggest kick comes from seeing people's reactions to the whole dragon gig. I don't quite know why that impresses people, but it does. The hair usually grabs their attention alone - but then, that's just normal people."

Ever hopped off the boulder she had been sitting on and ran over to the lake by the school. Unfortunately, the ribbons of light weren't dancing along the lake's surface right now. It wasn't twilight or dark outside, which was when the light spirits came out and danced above the lake. No one really knew why they did that, but it was beautiful and wonderful. There was a rumor that there was something at the bottom of the lake that attracted many magical creatures to it, and that that was why there were so many magical creatures in the nearby forest, but no one knew for sure. No one could swim deep enough to find out. The lake was so deep that no one could hold their breath long enough to make it to the bottom. And those creatures who didn't need to breathe under water said they couldn't reach the bottom, either, because it was guarded by fierce creatures. They didn't allow anyone past them.
But no one had tried to go to the bottom of the lake in decades, so everyone just assumed those were rumors.
Since it was an all girl's school, Ever had no problem with removing her school uniform and jumping into the lake in just her underwear. It actually felt wonderful! She yelped quickly as the cold water crashed against her skin, but it was refreshing! Her head went under water and when she came back to the surface of the lake, she pushed her hair back with her hands and wiped the water out of her eyes. The lake was so crystal clear. It was gorgeous.
