Snuggling close to him, she heard the way he said her name and looked up at him. Her heart caught in her throat at the look in his eyes. Something about this man touched her heart and soul in a way that no one else ever had. Reaching up, she ran the tips of her fingers lightly over his cheek. "Am I allowed to love you Connor?" She asked in a whisper. She feared that she already did love him whether he allowed it of no but she couldn't keep silent. She was too open a person to ever hide her heart. She wanted to make this man happy, make him smile, lighten his heart that she believed was damaged and scarred by past events. If he was a vampire, he could have been alive for a very long time, if he had been alive a long time, he probably had faced all manner of heartache and sorrow, and she wanted to be the healing balm for those wounds.

Connor's breath caught in his throat when she asked him that. He knew he couldn't stop her from loving him and honestly he wouldn't want her to stop. "You may." He said softly, kissing her shoulder several times. "But only if you swear to never leave me.. If you .." He moved back and looked into her eyes. "If you swear to that then you may love me." He prayed she would stay. He didn't want to fall deeper for her if she was going to leave. How could he admit to himself that he needed her. The pain in his heart would cripple him and he would lose all humanity if she ever left his side. "Be my wife, Arianna." He said, seriously.

Arianna looked at him in shock. "Y..You want me to marry you?" She asked in surprise. "WHy?" She asked not expecting to hear him say that he loved her in return but she was deathly curious. She hurried to assure him however. "I'll stay Connor...I will stay with you for as long as you want me. I would love to be your wife...but I am but a peasant, a nobody...You could have anybody you wanted..." She looked at him wondering why it was that he was offering her of all people marriage when he was a noble and could have anyone he wanted. "I do love you." She said in a whisper of a voice, her eyes shining with the truth of her words.

Connor smiled to her and laid on his back as he was fumbling around with her words. "Because I can have anyone I want." He said and reached out to her and placed his hand on the back of her head. "And I wan't you. I don't care that you're a peasant. Once you marry me you'll be a lady." He kissed her long and deeply then pulled away and took a deep breath. "I'll tell you something, Arianna. I'm a loanly man.. I don't trust easy and I don't love easy. If you marry me I may be difficult to put up with at times. Will you be able to handle that?"

Ari giggled and nodded. "Aye, I think I can put up with you. I can be difficult to live with to. are you sure you can put up with me Connor?" She asked her bright eyes shimmering with her humor. Though she was also trying to be honest. Cuddling up close to him, she smiled unable to believe how things were developing with them. On one hand she felt like she was so fortunate to have been offered all of this, he was right, she would be a Lady by title and she would never have to obey any man but him ever again. On the other, she felt like she didn't really deserve this. She was a peasant...but he could have anyone and he chose her. Suddenly she had several questions for him. Half sitting up, but leaning against him, she hovered over him with a smile and fired off her questions. "Connor? Can you have children? Oh God...I'll grow old and you'll still be...as you are now, so gorgeous and attracting all the ladies...." She pouted as her brow furrowed at that thought. "Can you turn me? Then I'll really never leave you in any way! How old are you exactly?" She blushed and buried her face in his neck again. "Sorry...I know I talk too much." She said in a muffled voice.

Connor snorted at her questions. "You do talk a lot. Arianna." He told her but his hand on her cheek was one of affection, not dislike. "I'm nearing two hundred and 3 years. I was born in October 29th." He told her and took a deep breath. "I can turn you.. but you will be forever young as you are now. Your body is still developing." He told her and continued. "I can get you pregnant. I have never had children though." He said sadly and shook his head. "You recall me saying that I was married once before, that was many, many years ago. 178 years ago.. My wife.. She was human as you are. A lady and our marriage was arranged. She was pregnant with my child... and I was a vampire then. Her body rejected the baby, she was only 6 months into pregnancy when she went into labor. She died and the baby didn't survive." He told her. "I haven't... " He took a deep breath. "I haven't loved another woman since then, although I've had been with other's.. but careful not to impregnate any of them. I fear the same would happen. If you do become pregnant with our child, I will give you my blood and if you die, you will reawaken as a vampire.. But it is your choice to drink the blood or not.. My late wife did not drink. The thought disgusted her so."

Arianna listened to him with a combination of shock and sympathy. Moving so that she literally sat on his stomach, she looked down at him with tears in her eyes. "I'll never see that as disgusting, I'll do anything to make sure I'm with you always, and -" She placed her hand over her stomach and looked down at it, then back up at him. "I would do anything to make sure our child lived." She leaned over and gently kissed him. To her mind, what he had gone through was something that would effect him. Of course he was harder to love someone when his one love found drinking blood so disgusting that she let herself and their baby die. Why would he want to love anyone again? She couldn't see a reason that he would want to open himself up to that kind of pain again. That made her feel bad, for him as well as herself. "Do you think you could ever love me? I understand if not, I just....well, I know I feel love for you and I would love to have a baby but I would love to have a family that loves eachother..." She explained. Her parents had loved each other and had raised their children with love. She wanted that for herself if she had ever imagined herself married. Now, looking down at this beautiful man, she wanted him to love her. One thing she didn't doubt was his ability and desire to protect her. No one would hurt her and get away with it, nor their child. She realized that she was now actually thinking about a child as something that wasn't in question, it would happen. She would take Connor's blood and whatever she had to in order to keep this promise to him. "I promise you I will never leave you and I certainly won't leave you willingly." As far as she was concerned, his wife had done just that, willingly left him and took their child with her. Arianna would never be that selfish.

Connor smiled at her. "Words have no meaning in life. You can say it all you wish, but unless it's proven, they are just words." He told her. "I could tell you that I love you, but unless I prove it to you then it's just words. You can say that you don't find it disgusting, but blood is different from anything you've drank before. And drinking it is not just a swallow here or there.." He told her and ran his fingers down her chest to her belly. "I pray someday I would have a child but not the expense of your life." He smiled to her. "We'll find your sister's killer together and then start our family."

Ari smiled at him. She understood what he meant about words and actions but she was concerned. "How can I prove it to you Connor? How can prove that I do love you?" She asked resting her hand over his on her belly. There could even now be life growing there. The thought lit her face brightly. "You realize I could even now be carrying your child?" She asked happily, the thought of dying didn't dampen her spirits on the subject. She sat there smiling down at him, her heart in her eyes. She felt like she could grow wings and fly. How had she gotten so lucky? She wondered. "Thank you for helping me Connor, I know my sister wont rest in peace until we do find her killer." A thought occurred to her and she gasped. "Oh! Connor.....do you think what attacked me IS her killer? It said I was next.....Is that what it meant? That it would kill me next?" She asked the fear in her eyes returning. How could he protect her from THAT?

Connor smiled to her and then frowned when she jumped subjects. "It's possible." He said and didn't like that Idea. "Let's stick with a vampire though, not evil spirit that I have no clue on how to take out." He wrapped his arms around her and rolled her over so she was on her back. "Anyways, i'll look into all the possibility's." He smiled and kissed her softly. "Are you feeling alright? I'll have someone bring up up something to drink and we'll get another hot bath ready for you." He kissed her again before he moved from the bed and smiled to her as he left her room.

He went down and spoke with a few of his servants. He had them create a diet for her, as well as a regular bath time scheduled. He also spoke to them about sending a message to an old friend of his. One he hasn't spoken to for years. He needed his wisdom regarding the spirit's. If there was one thing Connor was, it was dedicated.

Ari watched as he left the room. Her thoughts remained on the problem even though he didn't want her to worry about it. The servants came and filled up the tub with hot water again and she thanked them, smiling and being as friendly as she could. She full well knew how it felt to be a servant that was abused or under appreciated so she would never do that to any servant. After a good long soak in hot water, she got out of the tub, rapped the robe around her and climbed into the massive bed that was in her room. She thought about going into Connor's room but before the thought even fully formed, she was sound asleep.

When she opened her eyes, it was once again dark outside. She had no idea how long she slept but she sat up with a wide yawn and stretched. Getting out of bed, she went to the wardrobe and picked out a simple gown of Ivory lace. The long fitted sleeves opened at the elbow allowing the rest of the material to hang and sway gently as she walked. The low round, wide neckline showed more of her cleavage than she was used to but she had to admit that it looked good. The wide burgandy satin ribbon around her waist emphasized how tiny she was and the dress showed her hourglass figure to perfection. She smiled as she pulled her hair back a braid at each temple to clip it in the back with a pearl handled comb and allowed the rest to fall in long soft strands down her back. Going down to eat, she walked onto the dining halland smiled when she saw Connor standing at the window. "Good evening Connor." She said softly as she walked into the room,

Connor smiled and turned to her. "M'lady." He bowed slightly and held his hand for her. She came up to stand beside him and he looked out the window again. "Did you sleep well?" He asked, holding his hand over hers as it rest on his arm. Connor was up for a while, working on some business he had to take care of. He probably fell asleep around noon and the servants had kept the castle dark while he was awake. Now the curtains were all wide open, letting the moonlight in. "The weather looks like it's letting up. Would you like to go for a ride?" He asked, looking down to her and smiled.

Ari's face lit up. "Oh Aye! I would love to go riding!" She exclaimed happily. "I guess should change into more appropriate clothes then. When can we go?" She asked all kinds of excited about going out on such a beautiful night.

Connor chuckled and turned to face her, he took her chin in his hands and tilted her up to look at him. He leaned down and gave her a sweet kiss. "Tonight, after you eat you can get ready to go. Remember I want you to stay healthy." He took her hand and lead her over to the table where they sat and he had wine and she was served some hot oats with sliced peaches in cream and a tall glass of filtered water.

Ari kissed him softly and smiled. Sitting at the table, she ate quickly, excited to get out to Devil Wind to go riding. Going back up to her room, she picked out a riding outfit that actually surprised her. The wide skirt had been sewn together to form two wide legs, meaning she could ride astride instead of side saddle, which was the way she liked to ride. Coming back down, she smiled at Conner, almost bouncing as she stood there waiting. "I'm ready." She stated the obvious with a wide smile.
