Robert sauntered into the dining hall, his typical cheery smile plastered to his face. There were only a few students there but he soon spotted Sister Eleanor. He walked over and gave her a bow before slipping into the seat next to her. "Sister Eleanor, I must say, I always thought you a lovely woman, but you look even more beautiful in that gown," he said with a charming smile.

Viola Edendottir

Since the sun had shrunk back behind the horizon, Viola had been able to abandon her shadowy keep and had come out for the banquet- After all, she had to do what was expected of her, both from the school and from her kindgomd. Which meant the neigh impossible task of keeping an eye on her fiancee. With a stern expression, the girl darted through the shadows, popping up in a shaded corner of the dining hall and briefly fixing her dress before scanning the scene for her fiancee, or worse yet, her roommate.

Sister Eleanor giggled as Rob walked up. Every time she saw him, she always had to wonder if his smile was genuine. Tonight, at least, it seemed true. She inclined her head to him as he bowed and sat down.

"Th-Thank you, Sir," she said, trying to mute the awkward shock in her voice. "Your, er, tie is quite fetching," Eleanor added, straightening the corners of it. "Very distinguished."

She looked out at the filling room. Students, choosing very polarized positions in the room. If her multitude of visits today was any indication, there was already some blood-borne bickering amongst the students. "How was your summer?" she asked Rob politely.
But in the end, our choices make us.

Maeza glanced over at Tom, who was giving Kenton a rather hostile glare. Sherlock had joined him and Maeza could only hope the older man could talk some sense into him. She looked back at Kenton and spoke, making sure to keep her voice soft as well. "I'd tell you about it, but there's really not that much to it. I'll leave you out of that drama and hope he does the same. As for his orders, don't worry about them. He's throwing a hissy fit and any orders given in that mood don't hold much value." She smiled as she watched him add the salt to his water, remembering that he mentioned that. Her smile only widened at his compliment, though she figured it was more to be polite.

Sherlock waited until the lurker was done yammering before trying to get an answer out, noting that he barely seemed to pause for breath before turning the topic to the subject of his glares. He looked the man over- a fae of some sort, no doubt, and his posture... It reeked of military history, which would explain the scar. However, he was not too well versed in the different sorts of faries, and could only venture a guess at his kingdom of Origin.

"That's he's an a*****e, apparently." Sherlock remarked at the boy's unexplained comment. "I'm not well versed in the Fairy kingdoms, but whichever one has been most recently at war is likely his home. I'd say he's a military man too, by the look of his posture." He suggested, seeming to lack interest in the topic. "He's upset you." He finished; he could take a guess at how, too, but saying it aloud ran the risk of further offending Tom.

"I think I have a fair idea of what's happened," Kenton said, looking between Maeza and Thomas. "Believe me when I say I have no prior experience with such matters, nor am I looking to gain any. I shall leave it to you and yours to solve."

He shrugged, setting down his glass and scooting back to a more comfortable position in front of his plate. "On the chance that he does not leave me to my own devices, I feel confident that I can best him in physical combat, injuries notwithstanding. He relies on the element of surprise, and it is rather difficult to get the drop on me."

Kenton looked back at the opposing table. An older boy was sitting with Tom and looking him over. Hm. "But again, that is grim talk unbefitting the occasion," he said, smiling politely at Maeza. "Let us wash our hands of the affair and enjoy the evening, hm?"

Tom gave a dramatic roll of his head. "Gods, you can read me like a book." It wasn't as though he was making any especial effort to mask his feelings on the subject. He sighed, and reeled off what he knew.

"Lieutenant commander, water fairies or some s**t," he said. "I forget. He's been hanging out with Mae and he's my roommate and he's driving me up the wall. Yes, he's upsetting because he's a p***k and I'd like an excuse to take my boot to his wings."

He looked around. "Oh s**t—" Tom ducked under the table. In retrospect, there was no way this was going to help him. "See that girl at the doors?" he whispered to Sherlock. "Viola. Fiancée. Engaged over summer, lotta s**t happened," he explained. "Tell me when she's gone."

Haidee sashayed into the room, looking over the offerings for dinner companions. "Have you found a table yet?" she asked a girl lingering at the door. "Why don't you come sit with me? I'm sure we'll make good friends wherever we go."

Haidee threaded her arm through the crook of the stranger girl's elbow and led her towards the table with an unfamiliar boy and what appeared to be a suffocating doll beneath a glass. "Don't trust that girl over there," she said venomously, glaring in Maeza's direction. "She sent me to the nurse's office earlier this afternoon. Utterly barbaric."

She sat down across from the tall, handsome boy and lifted the glass containing the little doll. It gasped for air, and then bowed to her. "How cute!" she squealed, kicking out her legs.

"OW! For ******** sake—"

Haidee looked under the table. Crouched beneath it was the prince from before. He looked similarly dazzled by her presence, allowing Haidee to grab his arm and pull him up.

"Well hello there, stranger," she said, dragging Tom out from beneath the table and setting him beside her. "What are you doing down there? Come sit with me, we didn't have a chance to chat before that pirate ruined my afternoon."

Viola Edendottir

Viola had still been getting herself situated, buying time in the doorway when an unfamiliar creature approached her. Her dark eyes narrowed slightly at the other princess and her loud commentary; did it look as though she had found a table? Nevertheless, she kept quiet. She would need to be amiable to get by in this foreign place, particularly as her childhood friend would abandon her to the winds if given the chance. "Of course." She answered in her quiet deadpan voice. And then the girl was mentioned, and she scowled slightly. "I'm more than aware of her." The fairy had seemed bitter and enraged from the moment she had met- as though this engagement was her fault.

Although she cringed slightly at the feeling of the stranger's arm linking them together, her company was not altogether unpleasant at first. That is, until they had taken their seats across from a quiet boy with some small student trapped under a cup at his table and she extracted her fiance from under the table. "You've met Thomas then?" Viola commented, turning to her new acquaintance. "My Fiance."

The swirling colors vanished from Tom's view as Viola spoke. Aw, <********> He jerked his arm out of Haidee's grasp and swooped under the table, sitting across from them to better see across the room.

"This is Viola," he said flatly to the table. Cosmo jumped up and down until Tom added, "and this is Cosmo."

"Oh, charming! My name is Haidee," said the fascinating princess, patting Cosmo on the head. He cast a furtive glance at Viola, wondering if she'd heard anything he and Mae had spoken (er, yelled) about outside their room.

"And this is Sherlock," he added, nodding to his friend. "He was my roommate last year, graduating this year." He crossed his arms, looking back at Mae and Kenton. Had he gotten closer? What the hell was he doing—

"TOM WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY YOU WERE GETTING MARRIED OH MY GOODNESS CAN I COME I BET IT'S GONNA BE SO BEAUTIFULLLLLL!" Cosmo paused for breath, bowing to Viola. "And you're marrying Tom! How FUN! He's fun, we threw a party last year and I bet we'll do it again this year. You're pretty!" he chimed, bouncing happily around the table. "You are too—" he added to Haidee before Tom trapped him under the glass again.

"Talkative little bugger," Tom said quickly, not sure how astute the little prince was. "Anyhow, how's life?"

He scowled internally, trying to see a way out of this. There was certainly no salvaging the situation, sitting at a table with a golf-ball-sized information faucet and his fiancée was bound to bring bad news. Plus, with Haidee and Viola in the way, his view of Mae and Kenton was blocked. He leaned a little to the side, trying to see what they were doing.

Gods, just kill me now and spare me the agony.

Haidee giggled, lifting Tom's hand from the glass and releasing the tiny prince. "You're quite the little curiosity, aren't you?" she asked. Cosmo blushed, scuffing his shoe on the tablecloth. Haidee lifted the tiny prince to her shoulder, where he proceeded to braid a few strands of her hair.

Haidee extended her hand to Sherlock, her palm facing down. Handshakes were reserved for men in her nation, women merely had their hands grasped around the fingers. "It's a pleasure to meet you," she said, beaming at him.

She listened to Tom speak. He had a pleasant voice, though he didn't seem very happy. "Do I detect a little animosity?" she said, smiling. "Perhaps that little arrangement isn't meant to be after all."

Haidee chuckled, gently pushing Viola's shoulder. "Oh, dear, lighten up. I'm only joking. You've got yourself quite the prize, and so young yourself! You must be very excited."

She leaned a bit as Tom did, trying to catch his gaze. "Is something the matter, Thomas?" she asked. "Expecting someone else? Oh, I was so hoping to make new friends here tonight. I don't know very many people, you see."

"Okay, I can do this, I can do this," October told herself as she hid behind one of the big doors of the dining hall. The fear of meeting people was so powerful she couldn't find it in her to go inside. "October, your being ridiculous! Just go inside and talk with those people. They are all probably really nice," she tried to tell herself. Yet no matter what she said, her body wouldn't move forward. Instead, she leaned against the wall and sunk down to the floor.

"Will all year be like this? Me being terrified to meet new people...," she asked herself as she stared at her hands. "What happened to that brave princess from before... Oh, who am I kidding! Here I'm just a normal girl, I'm even afraid to look at half the people in there...," she continued to mutter to herself.

"Maybe, maybe when they aren't looking I can go and sneak some food and sneak right back out. I can eat out here! That way they wont see me and I wont have to worry bout talking to them..." For no reason was she getting worked up. None at all! And yet she couldn't bring herself to walk into that room filled with all those royals. And so, instead, she sat at the floor with her knees to her chest, wondering what to possibly do.

Maeza nodded silently. She was grateful to Kenton for not wanting to talk about the drama she wish she didn't have. She reached over to straighten her knife before letting her hand drop to her lap. She followed Kenton's gave to Tom, who was now surrounded by Viola and that color princess from earlier. Maeza frown slightly a looked away, quickly replacing the frown with a smile. "That sounds like a wonderful idea. Tell me, what does a handsome lord like yourself do for fun? I'm sure you had quite a lot of admirers," she said with a playful wink.

Robert couldn't hold back his soft chuckle at the look on Sister Eleanor's face. "Thank you Sister. I'd hoped to wear a more colorful one, perhaps something with polka dots, but that would hardly be appropriate for a banquet," he replied smoothly. He glanced around as well before focusing on the nurse once more. "It was quite long. Much of it was spent making all the lesson plans, but I suppose that's the life of a teacher. And you, Sister? Whatever you did only added to your beauty and sweet nature. You must tell me what you do to keep your hair that color because it is gorgeous. So very rich and natural."

Kenton blinked. He hadn't been anticipating that sort of question, particularly not prefaced with that sort of opening. Then again, what had he been anticipating? He cleared his throat and bought himself time to think by taking a sip of salted water.

"Er, forgive me," he said awkwardly, brow furrowed. "I haven't had the time to think of something to do for fun yet."

He avoided Maeza's gaze, instead watching a tiny prince braiding a princess's hair. "I was installed in the military when I was six and went to war at ten. My only memories of free time come from yesterday and early toddlerhood. The military is all I know," he said honestly. "As far as admirers, I should like to think that I am alone in my boat, as it were. There are no women in the military, as they have no wings or powers and are fairly useless in armed combat."

He pursed his lips. It had been an honest answer, though depressing. "Though I suspect hardly the same can be said for you, Madam Princess. What does one do with free time around here?" he asked. He got the feeling that, compared to hour after hour of training and exercises, he'd be sitting on a lot of nothing to do once he finished all his coursework.

Sister Eleanor fidgeted awkwardly, listening to Rob speak. She wasn't the best at small talk, and she sensed that Rob was just trying to be friendly. Why was socializing so difficult? Probably because she spent so much time around files and medicines that couldn't talk back. She chuckled a bit, and told Rob, "Polka dots would have been lovely. I'd love to see that someday."

She listened as Rob spoke about the summer. That seemed a familiar pastime in the staff lounge. "It sounds like you had a lovely time," she said, nodding. "If you ever have questions, I'm sure Monsieur would be pleased to help you. I'd honestly be surprised if he's thrown anything of Madame's away yet..." As soon as the words escaped her mouth she turned to stare down at her plate, wide-eyed and embarrassed. Well, that had been rather gauche of her. Thank goodness Mathieu was not here.

"I spent the summer in the infirmary, reinforcing it and bringing it up to code," she said, looking back up and smiling. Her infirmary was now her pride and joy. "The technology is now some of the best in the country, so if we have anything terrible happen..." She broke off again. Time to stop talking.

It seemed Rob was intent on keeping her occupied, though. Perhaps that was for the best. "Erm, I, well," she stammered as Rob talked about her hair. "I-I don't dye it or anything, I'm only 24, I don't have to worry about that. N-Not that I'm saying you're old," she added quickly. "Or, or that you have grays, or anything. You're very handsome," she said, cringing internally as she tried to salvage the rapidly derailing conversation.
But in the end, our choices make us.
