The goblin riled by his taunting began snarling and charging at Alister. Alister dodged the goblin's wild attacks as it swung its small sword but hitting nothing. "Bah, I could take you while drunk." he said which only served to anger the goblin further. From behind he heard a blood curdled snarl which served to distract him for a moment. The goblin he had floored earlier was up which only served to reinforce the other's confidence and strike faster and managed to cut a portion of Alister's garment.

"Ah well. Now that's more like it. I always wanted a vent." he said flapping the area near the hole. Oh well. Time to end this." he said as he pulled out the war hammer. The two goblins looked at him confused at his confidence despite getting cut. Alister then walked over to a fist sized stone on the ground. Then looking over at the pair he smiled and brought his hammer up. Then swinging it downward and forward in an arc, he struck the stone which sent it flying and impacting one of them in the head and crushing it on impact.

The other dumbfounded by what just happened turned to Alister only to be hit in a similar fashion by Alister's hammer which he had thrown. The force of the thrown hammer sent the goblin flying to the large tree trunk behind him crushing it's bones and insides as both impacted the tree. Both fell to the ground upon strike and blood stains could be seen on the tree. Walking over to the downed goblin and picking up his hammer he watched as it breathed its last.

See his enemy dead, Alister looked over at Ganner to see if he needed any help.

((At this time the helper goblin from the ruins is out and has seen the attack. He is now retreating back down to warn the shamen.))

Leon saw the helper goblin return and crouched just a touch lower in his hiding spot amongst some rubble near the Shaman. He listened as the helper Goblin informed the Shaman of the attack and he waited patiently to hear the shaman's response.

As the goblin began telling the shamen about the two heroes outside, he began to snarl and get angry. Leon could see the frustration in the shamen's face as it yelled and began to wave its hands. In goblin it was reminding it that nothing should disturb the sacrifice for the goblin god who will bestow its blessing on them that they will be victorious and be rewarded for their loyalty. It then ordered the helper to go and deal with the intruders while he began the sacrifice.

The helper snarled and picked up one of the lying weapons and began to head out. As it did this, the shaman moved to where the children were held. Taking one roughly, it yanked the poor crying child as it dragged him to the altar. Unable to resist's its strong pull, the child could do nothing as he was placed on the altar and tied. The shaman then began chanting in old language as the air began to stir. The children continued to whimper in the corner wondering who would be the next sacrifice.

Meanwhile out on the surface, Ganner and Alister were busy finishing with with their opponents. Then the wind began to pick up and blow through the trees as well as into the altar area. The sound was low as if a groaning from deep within. The helper goblin now surfacing at the steps could see the intruders as they began cutting down his brothers. Eyeing the closest one with the sword, he began to circle round to avoid being noticed. He clutched his short sword in his hand planning to take Ganner by surprise. By the time Ganner had finished his opponent, he charged with a snarl. Alister, looking up, noticed the charging goblin and shouted to Ganner to look out behind him.

"s**t!" Ganner exclaimed as he turned just in time to take a slash along his right wrist.
With his wrist sliced open Ganner found that he no longer had any strength in his hand and heard his sword tumble out of his grasp. He darted back and drew a symbol in the air with his left hand while snarling out a command word. When he was finished he flicked his out at the goblin.
The goblin erupted in flames. The flames suddenly burst into being as though the little creature had been doused in alcohol and someone had struck a spark on him. The goblin shrieked as it died and then collapsed to the ground.
"Damnit!" Ganner cursed. He had been hoping to avoid using that spell unless necessary. His usage of it was pretty limited and he still did not know what they might yet be facing.
Ganner clutched at his bleeding wrist with his left hand, trying to staunch the blood flow. He wanted to pick his sword back up, but his fingers refused to obey him. He grimaced at them both. Then he looked over at Alister. They seemed to have taken care of any immediate threats.
"Alister. Come fix this damn thing for me." Ganner said said holding out his arm, which he still clutched with his other hand.

Leon watched as the Shaman dragged the child to the altar and began chanting. He felt a cold shiver run down his spine as the shaman's spell blew the air about the room. He knew he could wait no longer. To save this child's life he would have to attack the shaman now.

He stood up from his hiding place in the rubble behind the shaman. He strode carefully behind the goblin, avoiding the child's gaze to keep him from alerting the shaman on accident. He slipped Ember's kiss from it's sheath. As he took his final step behind the Shaman, he grasped the blade in both hands, blade down, and held it up in the air. He pointed the tip of Ember's kiss down at the back of the Shaman's neck and thrust downward forcefully. As he did so, he willed the magic blade's flames to life.

"Ganner!" Alister shouted as he saw the goblin strike his companion and drop his sword. He was about to throw his hammer when he saw Ganner began casting. Not wishing to distract or risk hitting him, he held his hand. At least for the moment. Alister breathed a sigh of relief after Ganner had taken out the goblin with his magic. The smoldering corpse twitched as the flames crackled and consumed.

He quickly ran to Ganner who was now bleeding at the wrist and asking him to help deal with the wound. "All right. Just keep pressure on it to slow the bleeding." he said. He then incanted a spell to help speed up the healing process eventually slowing the bleeding and finally clotting the wound. "There. That should take care of it. Just put a binding on it." he said as he watched the wound close and skin mend. "Come. We should help Halcyon. It has been more than the agreed time." he said heading toward the mouth of the ruin.

Meanwhile inside the den, the shaman continued his chanting while oblivious to Leon's presence. The child was still whimpering as the shaman brought out a rusty knife from its belt. About to dedicate the child as sacrifice to it's diety, it words were stopped as Leon's blade plunged deep into its back. It gurgled in confusion as to what had just happened then followed with a loud scream as the blade's flames began to erupt from within. The flames grew quickly within its host as the goblin tried to remove the blade but failed from the agonizing pain. It eventually collapsed as it too began to catch fire.

The child looked at Leon with fear, unsure if he was friend or foe. He struggled at his bindings trying to escape but failed and began to cry.

Leon Pushed the Goblin aside as it collapsed, making sure it did not fall on the child. Embers kiss flickered down to cold steel as he relaxed his concentration on the enchantment and he slid it back in it's leather sheath. He smiled as friendly a smile as he could behind his shadowy black mask tattoo.

"Hey little guy. You're gonna be alright. Let me just cut those bindings for you."

He Pulled out his other dagger and began to cut away at the child's bindings, eventually freeing the young boy. He then picked him up off the altar and set him gently on his feet. He smiled again and moved on to freeing the other children.

The boy nervously looked at Leon as he pulled out the other dagger. He cringed when Leon brought the dagger close but relaxed more he saw that the man was cutting his bindings. When freed, he held on to Leon as he was carried toward the other children.

Leon finished freeing the children who clamored and were relieved to be freed. As they headed to the entrance, they met up with Ganner and Alister who were relieved that Halcyon and the children were safe.

Alister breathed a sigh of relief. "Good. You and the children are safe." he said. He looked around to see the desecrated altered. Looking at the way the items were placed and the symbols, he knew exactly what might have happened if they had not made it in time. "Take the children outside and let them rest and calm. I'll be right back." he said as he went down. He examined the altar and found that it was originally a druid's place of worship. Knowing that such a place should not remain in such a state, he decided to cleanse it. Looking around he found a skin of water among a few sacks in the corner and emptied its contents on the alter washing away the blood. Then calling a cleansing prayer, he filled the area with bright light. An invigorating wind filled the area and an inner calm replaced the anxiety in the air. Once done, he looked and grabbed one of the sacks thinking that it may have come from the village. He asked Ganner to see if he could find any more things that the villagers may need among the meager treasure.

"Sure. No problem." Ganner said.
Normally Ganner would have balked at taking orders but he figured Alister had fixed up his arm, he owed the guy one at least. That and it just made sense.
Ganner headed down into the ruins and began searching about. He found a small sack of coins underneath a filthy blanket against one wall. There was a bit of gold as well as silver and copper, and a couple of shiny rocks. Not gemstones. Just rocks... Goblins... Ganner sighed as he removed the rocks and dropped them on the ground.
A bit more searching and Ganner found a few serviceable tools. A shovel, a small scythe, a dagger. Everything else was either beyond repair or just more goblin scrap.
Ganner ascended the stairs back to the surface with his findings and held them out for the others to see.
"Not much of any use really. Just these few things." Ganner carefully stowed away his findings after showing them to his allies. "So, we ready to get these kids back home where they belong?"

Leon shrugged disinterestedly at Ganner's findings. "yeah, let's get these kids back to town." One of them had been clinging to his leg for the last ten minutes. Most of the others wouldn't stop talking about how cool it was that he slayed that goblin. But it was the one who was on the altar that worried him most. He wouldn't speak at all.

((Alright, let's skip back to town. kurisutan, I'll leave this rodeo in your hands for now though, since these are all your npcs.))
PostPosted: Sat Jul 13, 2013 4:21 pm

((All right then. Moving on. Sorry I didn't mean for it to sound as if Alister is leader or giving orders or anything.))

Once everyone was safely outside, the area was already giving a more calm aura now that the area had been cleansed of the evil. The air was rather refreshing as a light shower seemed to answer and wash away the impurity. The rainfall was brief, but a welcome gesture. Alister urged the children on that they head back to the village and asked if his companions were unhurt. Once they had everything they started off. They had to slow their pace for the children were weakened and tired.

Upon reaching the forest's edge they could see smoke rising from the opposite end of the hills. "That's coming from the village," cried one of the girls. "Mother! Father!" she yelled with the other children following her lead. "Children, do not get too far. There may be danger ahead. Stay with us." He tried saying as they took off.

((I personally don't have a problem. And it didn't even really seem to me like Alister was giving orders. I was just writing out what Ganner thought about it.))

"You really think we're going to run into more trouble this close to the village?" Ganner asked. "We cleared out those goblins. We should be fine now."
Ganner walked along with the rest using his Dancing Lights and Mage Hand spells to entertain the children as they went.

((Is the smoke an abnormal amount? Or just from like a chimney?))
PostPosted: Mon Jul 15, 2013 6:15 pm

((it's an abnormal amount. Like when a large area is set ablaze.))

Alister began to hasten his movement toward the village. He didn't like the sight of such a high amount of smoke. It didn't seem normal. Even for a bonfire. "I'm not really sure. Like you said, we took care of this group. Could it be possible there was another group that had moved out? Didn't it seem that the number here in the ruin seem oddly small?" he asked.

One of the children began tugging at this shirt and asking if they were safe. He assured them that as long as the children stayed with the group, they would not let any harm come to them.

Ganner finally looked up and noticed the column of smoke that was rising up from the area of the village. He felt his gut clench at the prospects that came to mind.
"Maybe they put together a bonfire to celebrate our victorious return?" He asked hopefully, though what he felt was anything but.
If something was going on in the village then they'd have no choice but to have one of them stay with the children, but which one. Ganner's first thought was Alister, so that he and Halcyon could head in and wreak havoc on whatever had caused all of that smoke. He'd sure miss those healing spells though.
They were getting closer to the village.
"How do you guys want to do this?" Ganner asked. "I'm thinking Halcyon should move in first again, I'll go shortly after. Unless we can find a safe place for the kids to hide you should probably stay with them, Alister. What do you think?"
