*Maggie can't help grinning a bit at Mo's silly parting gesture, but then she bites her lip and turns back towards Bard, unsure what to say to him after the incident with Linda*
*she drops her gaze to the gift, grateful for the distraction, and clears her throat awkwardly* . . . ehm . . . what is it?

*Bard looks at the oddly shaped present. He tears at the paper, revealing a small gold tube. He holds it up, staring at it in wonder. Uncapping it reveals lipstick in the most vivid shade of red imaginable.*
*Still staring at it, Bard brings his left hand to the side of his head. He begins to giggle, softly at first and then increasingly louder and louder*

*Maggie blinks at the tube of lipstick, baffled, then up at Bard as he starts to laugh* Heavens, what a strange gift . . ! *but she smiles, releived to see him looking happy again, even if she doesn't understand the joke*

*Still trying to figure out what on earth he's talking about, Maggie returns the hug without thinking about it. She laughs a little herself, as much out of confusion as amusement* Seven figures?

*Bard releases Maggie from his embraceIt's .... well, it's a lot of money. And I have more of that than I'll ever need right now.
But now... *he smiles* oh... now. This will be a happy new year for a lot of unfortunate kids and their families.
I told Mo, "If you get me seven figures on a book deal, I'll dress in drag and go to all the signings. I'll even wear lipstick."
This is her way of letting me know I have to make good on our wager.
*he holds up the tube of lipstick, noting with sudden horror that the lipstick has somehow become smashed*
Oh.. Maggie... *he chuckles still looking a bit horrified* That poor coat....

*Maggie listens to him as he describes the amount of money he earns and what he does with it, an unreadable expression flickering briefly across her face before Bard draws her attention to the coat*
Oh no! *she looks down to see the red smudge and raises her hands to her mouth, mortified* Oh, dear . . .

*Bard laughs, looking from his stained shirt to her smeared coat* Well... at least we match now.
*The elevator stops at the first floor with a ding, and the doors slide open. Bard takes Maggie's hand and leads her out of the elevator*
At least it didn't get on the dress... It cost a lot more than the coat.

Good heavens . . .*Maggie murmers, glancing down again at the clothes she's wearing. She shakes her head and lets out a sound that's somewhere between a laugh and a sigh - its hard for her to imagine spending so much on a single outfit*

*As they exit into the chill night air, Bard turns toward Maggie*
I have an idea. Why don't we go downtown for a while, see the Christmas lights? Would you like that?

*She returns the smile and takes his arm, then, reddening slightly, she turns her head to look around them at the buildings and cars and people, still only half able to believe her eyes* 'Tis all so unlike anything I'd e'er see in my time . . . and yet it must seem quite normal te ye, mustn't it?
