Savage laughed at her comment. It was a loud, booming, hearty laugh. "If after all this time on Earth, I didn't have enough saved to easily cover anything myself and another person would want from a HOTEL, I would have well wasted the past couple millenia, wouldn't I?"

Ok, so money is not an option. Wonderful. Now all he needed was a family tree the size of the Amazon and slight personality disorder and he could be Richard's twin…Blackstone rather. She wasn't going back to calling Blackstone by his name.
"Come on, what's the big deal? Pretty much Gramps without that messy little relationship you two had. And he has an impressive resume. They say everyone has a twin somewhere. This might be gramps' good half."
"Oh, absolutely. He was Genghis Khan, Blackbeard, Vlad the Impaler, and buddies with Adolf Hitler. You're trying to get me to go to a hotel with a real angel."
"Come on, so what? From what I get, Gramps could be pretty nasty himself, but you still...whoa, ok. Really bad vibes. All right, I won't go there... Well, he said he wouldn't be in the same room if you didn't want. So no worry there. Plus you could easily boot his butt out the door. You powers, him over the hill. Really dark and muscular over the hill. And even if you do, you know...
"Not. Happening."
"Um, ok. Well then, how about this. You've been here for months with no one. Why not. Besides, I don't see any of your other guys around, so you won't be making anyone upset. No Gramps, Kano, Alan, John..."
"You know, I am getting really tired of you going through my head...."
"Sorry, habit. I'm kind of obsessed with finding out about family history and all. Alright, I'll stop being match-maker and go back to voice of reason here. Apartment's been leveled, you're hungry, exhausted, and broke…"
"I find a few people and I could stay somewhere without being in any awkward situations."
"Oh, the bat group? Up in that satellite thing? Well, sure...after you run around and try to find them. Just go. Eat, get some sleep, maybe unwind, then you can go find someone for a place to crash until you can get a place if you want."
Sapphire sighed silently. Her whole day's been nuts...why not. If it gets the kid out of her head for a while, and her energy back, the girl might be right. Now that she thought about it, she would be running out of energy to do much of anything soon. Which would mean she wouldn’t be able to use her powers or anything. Not really any good option.
"If you're sure it's alright. I just need something to eat and some sleep." Sapphire replied.

Savage smiled. "If I wasn't sure, my dear Spider, I wouldn't have offered." He thougth for a moment, and remembered one particular hotel, owned by a one Bruce Wayne, if he remembered correctly. It was nice, lavish, and one night's stay was completely out of the price range of the normal working-class Gotham citizen if they didn't save for half a year. As he had said, though, money was not a problem for Vandal Savage. It wasn't a terribly far distance away, either. They could walk, if they chose.

"There you go. See?"
"I trust you'll be leaving now, right?"
"Maybe. If you're really feeling uneasy about the whole thing. Maybe I'll stick around and let you know if he's having any homicidal thoughts or anything."
Sapphire gave a small mental sigh. Well, hopefully it wouldn't be anything expensive. Now that she thought about it...her costume was all she had to wear. Wonderful. She still wasn't sure why he almost instantly offered her a hotel and everything. Well, she had an idea why.... but still.

Vandal noted the silence. "Your silence either means you accept, or our friend Elizabeth is a telepath and is still in range."

"Both." Sapphire replied quietly.

Savage chuckled lightly. "I suspected as much. Her appearance earlier almost gave it away entirely. But come, Spider. Just a small walk, and we're there." He offered her his arm, his face as pleasant as it could be. He acted like walking arm in arm with costumed women was normal for him. Well, he HAD done it before, back on the prison planet...

Sapphire glanced at his arm a moment. Ugh, for some reason she had this nagging feeling that this had 'bad outcome' written all over it. Eerily similar to Blackstone and the strong possibility that he wasn't a 'good guy', she wasn't really surprised... Nnnh, but she wasn't really in the mood to worry about anything right now. Short walk, then she'd get to have something to eat and get some sleep. Get her own room. Unless the hotel only had like...one room left. Ugh. And wouldn't it look a little weird for her to be walking down the street with him in full costume still? Arm in arm with...well someone she barely knew. And when they got to the hotel? She took another glance at his face a moment. Then again…ah, the heck with it. She was too tired and hungry to care right now. Maybe she was over thinking things a bit. But she usually did when it came to...well, she'd also need to keep in mind that this wasn't him. "Alright." she said as she moved up to Savage and gently took his arm in both hands. Oh, kid was right...he did feel strong. ”…wonderful…”"Jeeze you need to loosen up. Stop being so paranoid and just enjoy it. You're getting a nice break from the whole costume thing, so relax. Nothing's gonna happen 'long as I'm around. Plus...well...tall, dark, and muscular." Star said with a bit of a smile in her voice. "Could you please just stop...thinking unless it's something important?"”Alright. I’ll be around if you need me. And I’ll split when needed.”

CLICK!
"'Ey, Mikey, looks like we 'ave a freak and a freak lover here!"
"That it does, Danny, that it does..."
Two thugs came out of a nearby alley, their focus on Savage and Sapphire. They were both armed, one with a lead pipe, and the other with a switchblade knife. The sound was probably the blade shooting out.
"Sigh... Just a couple losers," Sabage said, not flinching, not tensing up, no fear across his face. Just confidence. "You're tired, Sapph. Stay back. I'll handle this." Then, he though in his head, 'Elizabeth, if you're listening, that goes for you, too. I can take these jokes out myself.'

Both Sapphire and Star blinked a moment. Though Star was more surprised that he was thinking to her.
"Um...alright." she said to Savage, then turned her attention towards Sapphire. "Hey, let him show off. That colorful history, I imagine he can handle them with ease. Besides, you can step in if you really feel you need to."
Sapphire glanced at the thugs a second, then let go of his arm and stepped back from him. Well, nothing else, she could see what she could expect if she ever had to go against him.
"Or I can just teleport you away...then again, you can do that yourself, can't you? Oh, and he doesn't know any of your powers, so you've got that on your side as well."

"Hey, Danny, is it just me, or does the man think he's a freak, too?"
As the man who appeared to called Mikey said that, Vandal Savage cracked his neck loudly.
"It would seem so, Mikey. I guess Freakism's gettin' contagious..."
Savage reached into his jacket, and pulled out a single long dagger. "I don't want to fight you clowns right now. Your blood's going to be Hell to get out of these clothes."
"What the... Freaks don't kill people!"
"I'm not going to kill you. That would be far too easy, and it would've been done already. I'm just going to make you regret walking out of that alley tonight." Savage stepped towards the thugs, and adopted a somewhat unusual fighting stance. It was apparent that it was a knifefighter's stance, but it was designed to favor the dagger's weight for downward striking as opposed to stabbing and slicing. Also, instead of the traditioal open empty hand for weapon deflection, Savage had his empty hand balled into a fist. A smirk appeared on Vandal's face. "Well? What are waiting for? You're the thugs, and I'm the... How did you phrase it? The 'freak lover'. Come and get me. If you dare."
There was a second's hesitation.
"GET 'IM!"
The two guys lashed out at the same time. Savage took a step back, and planted the knife deep in the arm of the man wielding the switchblade. Savage let go of the weapon, and rolled off to the side, putting the wounded man between himself and the lead pipe. As the injured thug screamed in pain, the guy with the pipe ran around him and charged Savage.
"Didn't you try this already?" Savage asked, leaning to the side to avoid a swing, and retaliating by smashing the thug across his face with the back of his hand. As the guy staggered showing his back to Savage, Savage stepped up and wrapped his left arm around the front of the man's neck, using his right arm to both hold his left in place and push the thug's neck forward. It was a perfect blood choke. After about 10 seconds of struggling, punctuated with the continued wails of the man who got stabbed, who was trying to take the dagger out of his arm, the thug in the choke stopped struggling, going limp. Vandal dropped him, and walked back to the stabbed man. "I did tell you I'd make you regret it." And with that, Savage brought a surprise kick across the man's face, knocking him out. Savage took the knife out, tore off a piece of the unconscious thug's shirt, and bound the wound. He DID say that he wasn'tgoing to kill them, but he couldn't have circa sixteenth century knives lying around Batman's city; the Dark Knight would figure out it was him.

Sapphire watched Savage quietly. He really did know what he was doing. Though...she shouldn't be surprised, should she? She was a little impressed that he actually addressed the one man's wound.

Vandal Savage wiped the blood on the other guy's shirt and put it back into its sheath inside his jacket. "Sorry that took so long. I needed my knife back, but I DID say that I wasn't going to kill him, so I couldn't let him just bleed to death when I pulled my blade out of his arm." He was actually apologising for stopping to dress the wound.

"No need to appologise." Sapphire replied. "Not many people I know would bother with that. Aside from other heros."

{Enter Future Batman and Spoiler from Warehouse}
As Batman shot out over the rooftops of Gotham, it quickly became apparent to his passenger (and anyone else that happened to be watching) that his concussion was badly effecting his ability to fly straight. After a block or two (read 'enough of a distance from the warehouse that he wasn't terribly worried about pursuit') he gave up and landed in a nearby alley. And by landed, I mean that he practically toppled over. He managed to hold himself up using a wall, only to fall to his knees and throw up. Oh, God. Sick... So sick.
