Rushifa
Well, I'm now a member of the guild, so I thought I'd officially introduce myself. My online pen name is Rushifa, and I'm a creatice writer. I'm currently a freshman in college, majoring in english, and I have dreams of someday being a published author (well, don't we all?). For the Press I've currently been working on some movies reviews, and I may do some of books or games in the future. Someday I'd kinda like to have my own column, if I ever become a staff member, but for now I like starting small. I look forward to getting to know everyone through the guild!

Hum, and I just walked in here, demanded a column and created a thread; and now I'm the most celebrated columnist in all of the Gaian Press world (well since Arwen retired). Well, to each his own I guess.

Bring on the Gaian Pulitzers!

I suppose I'll give an introduction of myself as well. Online, the name(s) I go by are Shadow and Lilly. As of this typing, I'm in seventh grade, rather fed up with school I'm currently going to, and believe I've picked up more about English here and the WF that I will "learn" this year at school.
For the press, I used to work in the background or help with what I could, then dissapeared over summer break. Now that I'm back, I don't really have a particular job, but just do what needs doing.
And I am yet another of the asians who work in the 'zine.

Shiny Pultzer for Jaho. He's actually been here since we started (though I do still recall his warning about 'these things usually don't make it.') A year is a good achievement, right? I know I can hardly believe it.

So now we have a faithful reviewer (feel free to go official anytime you want), so I don't have to bang my head around trying to critique movies and stuff. Awesome!

Speaking of movies, I watched the Crucible today. Now I think I should read the original literature, seeing as the movie's already stabbed me a dozen times with its heartbreaking theme of convicted innocence and sinners. I'll be prepared.

We really should do some sort of project, or at least a small little article or section, something new. Something small. Then some more things for the anniversary.

By the way, our mule's budget is sort of low, so nothing too expensive. Unless we care to make money. (Minishop?)

About the official reviewer thing, I don't think *one* official reviewer would be a good idea. Maybe two - three? That way it's not just one person's opinion.

See, I make a great motivater. Look what my great motivation did. See, see, it's exactly as I planned.

And now, if you believe that load of bullshit, let me sell you this fine bottle of air.

Though, seriously, there had been about 80 attempts at this sort of thing before. This has been the only one to be succesful. Though, we've yet to take over the world. Perhaps we should try posting our magazine in more than one forum as well?

You know, find every forum we can post it in, and post it there. Also, you know, chatterbox; bring a little culture to the hell hole. rofl

In my defense, it's two am.

I agree that there should be more than one reviewer. I'm more than happy to 'turn pro,' as you put it, but I do think we should continue to look for other reviewers...perhaps when we post the submission topic this month, we can state that we are specifically looking for such-and-such position to be filled? Don't know, might help.

Oh, and yes, I've seen other such magazines/newspapers pop up from time to time. I was on one for awhile, but most people lost motivation, and it died. It was fun while it lasted, though.

Oh, on a note about ways to bring in money, has anyon ever suggested having a Personals section? Naturally nothing inapropriate could be posted there, but maybe a small column were we include adds for people looking for friends, etc, and maybe telling a bit about themselves...not sure if there's an audience for it, but if we made people pay a small fee to advertise there, it might help.

Oh, speaking of advertising, I definately think we should post in more forums. The 'zine I was in before posted exclusively in the Chatterbox, and it worked pretty well. There are actually a number of intelligent people who hang out there, although you wouldn't know from looking there. It will need lots of bumping, though, since the CB moves pretty fast, and we'll have to except that there will be some spam...

Hmmm...

Till now, TGP has been exclusively literary. Other than La Revue and our various columns, TGP was spearheaded to mainly cater to the WF.

If we were to conque----er, branch out to other forums, what could/would we offer that they'd be interested in?

As of the advertising, I've sent out a few PMs to contest-hosts in the contest subforum of the WF. The way I figure it, they want the word out about their writing contests, what better way than a literary 'zine, right? We'll see how that turns out....

Also, I've noticed a lot of columnist threads that haven't been updated since cod knows when. Are they still contributors? If they upped and disappeared, I say we delete those threads.

Y'know, I think I'll go PM them with 2 weeks notice to get back in the groove or expect their threads gone.

*troddles off to do such*

On another note, anyone mind if I create my own review thread? Just someplace I can keep the reviews as I write them, and then decide at the end of the month which one to use. Currently I'm planning to pretty much write up a review of every new movie I see, since it's a pretty quick process, and then I can pick and choose after awhile. Some things need to be timely, and others I can through in to any month. I'm also going to start doing some book reviews, and possibly manga/anime reviews.

Nobody minds if you create a thread so long as it serves some sort of purpose. I mean, we don't even have a full page of threads yet I don't believe.

As for other forums. I dunno if we really offer anything other than literature. A lot of people like to read, but don't care about writing at all. As such they'd never visit the wf. I was thinking more like commerece.

Thanks, I shall then.

How about the Entertainment Forum? I mean, we're offering a form of entertainment, and if I'm remembering correct they have a Books subforum, so it seems appropriate.

On another note, I have an idea for a column. I'm thinking of calling it Geek Chic: A Girl's Guide to Geekdom. Basically it will be where I rant about topics like anime, manga, rpgs, etc, and what it's like being a girl in such fandoms, etc, blah blah blah...sound interesting to anyone, or should I keep brainstorming?

Nemea: since cod knows when?
Rushifa: Sounds interesting, but then again, I'm probably a prime target for such a column, so don't take my word for it.

As for the other topics or forums, wasn't there somebody who did a more scientific based column? Maybe Nobrin? And there have been a few people, such as readers, who have asked about branching out before. And if you have ever checked around the WF and seen the new user-written, user-read magazines that have been popping up, you'd see that they're not entirely orientated to literature.

Yes, we would need multiple reviewers, of course. Having just one mind and one opinion wouldn't be very accomodating to our audience, now would it?

Hey, I'd read it. Type some samples and post them. This is a sort of role playing and anime forum. Jaho has his politics, you'd have the specialized entertainment. Two very contrasting yet entertaining columns.

And so long as it doesn't turn into a pop culture teen magazine, branching out is fine with me. Next question would be exactly what forums and will we get yelled at?
