So do I. My mom made fresh bread all the time when I was growing up. And with the kid starting on the gluten and dairy free diet soonish, and some of the premade loaves being $6 (US) a pop, I figured no time better than the present to start making my own regularly.

I'm getting some bread pans off her as well, but a lot of the recipes in the books I got for the kid's diet call for a bread maker, so I was looking to hunt one of those down too.

How will you be making gluten free bread?
Barley? I know that has less gluten.

What sort of foods ar they? surprised

Gluten is pretty much anything wheat, or wheat derived. I know off the top of my head there's rice flour, and various type of flours made from beans. And corn flour. All of which are gluten free, and I know there's other types I'm forgetting. Most of the recipes call for a mix of different flours, as that's generally best anyway, even using wheat flour.

Luckily, he's not going on a yeast free diet as well, or then I'd probably have some difficulties with a few of the bread recipes.

My mom just made my evening. I'd been wanting a bread maker, and brought it up while on the phone with her, and she goes, "Oh. We have one of those in the attic. I used it maybe two times. Do you want it?" Right on, free appliances.
When I got my own flat, my mum gave me her rice cooker, her crockpot, AND her hand mixer, on account of she never uses the first, has a second one of the second, and has a nice stand mixer that replaced the third. Very yay to free appliances. The rice cooker lives on my countertop, gets used at least twice a week, the hand mixer gets used whenever I bake (and I bake my own bread too), and the crockpot, I suspect, will see a lot more use in the winter, when it's cold and I'm on-campus late.

I can beat that smile

I got married, moved into our own place, and got my parents old stuff, both sets of grandparents old things and brand new wedding presents.

I <3 both of my blenders. Both are old, sturdy and do everything.

Crockpots/slow cookers are pretty much the best kitchen invention ever, next to egg and apple slicers.

See, that makes getting married sound almost worth it. But that means finding a woman crazy enough to put up with me forever. And getting it legal.

Though, the crockpot and rice cooker are both about as old as I am and still work wonderfully. There's really something to be said for old appliances, I think. heart

I probably use my rice cooker more than my crockpot, actually. But we'll see how that changes this winter. And as for apple slicers, omgyes. I use mine just about daily. <333

Speaking as someone who has had to hand whip cream and meringue, I contest this assertion and level that pride of place at the electric beater.

Sounds yummy.

I need a new crock pot. But I still wouldn't trade it for my electric mixer.

I love my electric mixer as well. Which reminds me - I need to make some practice runs on my orechovnici/nut rolls before Christmas time.
