Derrick MathisIt had been nearly a month since Kai returned home. The young vampire-merman hybrid had left a silver armlet with Derrick, and it became something he treasured quickly. Derrick left it on his desk, often playing with it as he worked. Vladimir and Saluote had thanked Derrick for taking care of Kai, though Vladimir wasn't too fond of how affectionate his son had grown to be with Derrick. Understandable, considering Derrick had bought him from the black market and was considerably older than the boy. Saluote, on the other hand, didn't seem to think badly of it at all. Derrick wondered of that was due to the merman being so much younger than his vampiric partner.
Really, though, Derrick's thoughts when not focused on work were most filled with either Alvin, naturally, and Kai. Lots of Kai. He knew where he was and could easily visit, but was never able to decide if he should or not. Instead, he fell into a sort of trance-like routine. It was similar to how he acted after Alvin's mother died, only it wasn't grief. It was...loneliness? Finally, Agatha grew tired of his behavior and approached him about it. If he missed the boy so much, he should just go and visit. She practically forced him out the door and into the car, much to his protest. But, she wouldn't let him back in. Something about his moping bringing the staff down. Jeez.
