Most who would do such a thing know me, but for those who dont, im something of a freelance occultist, dug in various pantheons for years and had a strong believe real magic exists.. well i had.. anyway, i really like your intro there on the main guild page... quite stylish and professional. you could literally sell a damn rpg background or even your own game with that writing style, no joke, its good; it does remind me a little of... (Killbot likes to joke alot.) lolah, i guess im fine.. your background thing sounds better than most recent tv series... or rpgs i heard of. i wonder how far you are going to allow technology though, maybe (if it doesnt already exist) a comprehensile list of typical communications/weapons/vehicles/medical/space tech table would be useful.. like a short collection of "actually used" in that game era gear and techs.. makes it a lil easier to dive into it i think. i stuck to my avi here for 3 years.. i guess im more of a writer myself and enjoy a fluid style of writing and deep storylines.. not much of an rp type myself actualy... most i ever did was gurps, which had very rigid rules (which allowed very detailed tinkering with inventory and skills and such) in aspect of technology, spells and the like, given hard dice numbers and ammo ratings and whatnot.. even down to the actual weight of simple things like hand mirrors and camping tents.. so im perhaps a lil biassed towards a hard frame realist approach that gives one a preset base to work with. no idea if thats good or bad.. but it sure helps one does not come up with a "gizmotronic quantum stream transposer" that suddenly teleports people halfway around the galaxy... such things just make a story unbelievable.

i had one basic theme to that world maybe... as the world was into technology so much for millenia, magic will be first taken as a psi phenomenon or a scientific glitch when encountered... so they really dont know how to tackle a demon or such... but.. when they find out "an unknown power approaches" like the sudden outbreak of magic and monsters, it could well lead to a pogrom vs "witches" or "heretics" as the church seems to have a quite strong grip on them still, as far as i caught the story so far.. which could end up in powersuited paladins with miniguns and vibroswords fighting vs anything "non human" and "non normal" which literally brands anyone affected by the magic as a freak and possible victim, which in turn might lead to very dangerous counter movements that are actualy composed of "afflicted individuals" who have nowhere else to go than those (forced into this position) resistance fighters.. so its splitting the society in the logical "normal" men and the old "mutant/abberant" template seen in the realworld inquisition (where the monsters and witches were purely a creation of primitive superstition) and the XMEN oroginal storyline where mutants were seen as dangerous (and probably not without reason) and hunted by troops and sentinels. we know from history that a government of any stature will do absolutely anything to uphold law and order, so anything like personal empowerment by magic might actualy be a threat to that leadership structure, one they woudl try to stomp out to the very ground.
just a lil thought about that. what you think about it?

I think it's an interesting idea. its all based on analysed human history and its psychological background, and the base system of this scenario works on any tech or culture level, because it is based on the primitive fear of those "not empowered" be it by superior tech or mental powers or whatnot... even the idea that "the neighbor is able make the goats in my garden sick" like witches were assumed to do among other things, bundled with the rampant fantasy man seems to possess and lacking intellect to analyse fact from fantasy, any group or individual that is not like the others (or not like the majority) is easly stuffed into that "witch" or "abberant" role... so yea.. "the jews poisoned the wells .... that caused the plague", sure, they too died of it, smartass... but thats how the fear/misinterpretation system actualy works. in answer to such a "threat" real or imagined, a society develops (much like biological entities tend to) "antibodies" as in organisations to rout the "evil powers" from the face of earth (or whatever) and becomes as much of a destructive fearinspiring power of evil as the original threat was... which is why history always rotates in viscious circles. and yes, each side always defines itself as "The Good Guys Faction" and the others as "Devils, Deviants and Madmen"; (as for the technology standard mentioned, it does help a game world or story to know "ok the AVERAGE soldier will use a ak47," but it doesnt null the possibilty that IRONMAN has a cyborg armor, it only gives one a rough comparsion to what is normal and what might be seen as superior or inferior tech wise) im sorry if i rant here. youre welcome to use these ideas stated here for your background i guess.. i got no copyright on history after all. cat_ninja cat_rofl
