Okay, the disscussed actions have occurred in Swabia, and Faustus has sent letters to the other dukes and the king. How do i go about sending said letters? do i just post them in the courts or do i just tell people to read my stuff?

I'd suggest posting a letter in the person's court you're sending it to: You get an alert if someone posts in a guild thread if you're the one who started it. It also helps a bit with immersion to have the actual letter there. smile

You can blame the very person you're accusing of assassination: She's sitting next to me and told me you posted. mrgreen

I say, just let them read it in your court, we can't go posting the same thing in every other court. I already read it, but since you said it was only for the dukes and the king, I'm going to pretend I know nothing razz

A little information, becaused I was asked this already.

Everyone know we have courts, but maybe some are not very sure what to do with it. I looked for some information, and here it is. Maybe the names of the ofices should be translated to german, but I made my best to make things a bit more clear.

Read it if you dare sweatdrop

I believe a basic court around the year we are roleplaying would have at least these:

Chancellor
In a royal household or in a diocese, the chancery was the department responsible for handling all written documents. Writs and other instruments of government were issued by the royal chancery. In a diocese, documents were drawn up, copied and expedited in the chancery under the direction of a bishop or his representative.

As government bureaucracy evolved, the chancery became the segment of the government dealing with domestic and foreign affairs. The court officer who oversaw the chancery, the chancellor, wielded notable power and was usually drawn from a position of prestige.

Steward
Medieval stewards took care of the household and maintained the living quarters. They brought in provisions and made sure that there was minimum spoilage and pilferage of foodstuffs and supplies. The steward kept an eye on the servants and called the carpenter or stonemason when a step needed mending or wall needed repairs. If a guest needed anything, the steward was there with it; and when the master lay dying, the steward ran for the doctor---or priest. The steward, in short, made sure that everything ran right and did so quietly, competently and without expectation of any reward but continued employment.

As society became more complex, the tasks of the steward became more specialized. By the late 16th century, the steward oversaw the servants and ordered food and wine.

Marshal
French maréchal, which in turn is a borrowing from Old Frankish *marhskalk "stable boy, keeper, servant", still continued by Middle Dutch maerscalc, marscal "id.", modern Dutch maarschalk "military commander" (the meaning is under French influence). It is cognate with Old High German mar(ah)-scalc "id.", modern German Marschall "military commander" (the meaning is under French influence).[3] and originally meant "stable keeper", from Germanic *marha- "horse" (cf. Engl. mare) and skalk- "servant" (cf. Old Engl. scealc "servant, soldier").[4] As marshals became trusted members of the courts of Medieval Europe, the title grew in reputation. During the last few centuries, it has been used for the most elevated offices.

Spy Master
I think this one explains itself, but I can't find anything about that on the internet. I fact, some pages say such title never existed. But being spies, who can be sure? Maybe they were THAT good xd

Diocese Bishop
I think this one could be empty for some time, as it was used to strenghten the ties between the noble and the Church. Maybe the archbishops want to appoint them on others courts later, to maintain the Church power over the provinces.

Other courtiers
Use imagination. Maybe one of them could be your spy on others court (or an enemy spy on your own), others could be simply family of lesser nobles (or knights), or rich traders that want to make their family position a bit better by sending them to their lord's court.

----------------------------------------------

Another thing I wanted to say was about the social ladder:
+++Kings, princes (royalty)
++ Dukes (a duke can be title given to a non-heir child of a King too)
+ Counts
Kinights, Very rich traders (I'm not sure they could bouy a title of nobility, but who knows?)
Courtiers (I'm guessing this, as they had the privilege of living in the same house as their lord, and some of them could get a better education than they would normally)
Free peasants with some lands (usually the less fertile plots)
Laborers, Serfs. They had no land, and the land owners would hire them to help with harvest and sowing times, or to keep animals

I'm leaving the fosterlings out, as I do not know enough about them. Like an arranged marriage, a noble family would ask to send one of their children to another's court, to be raised and educated there. It was advantageous because the child could make some useful friends there, or get a better education than their parents could give them. Of course, there was the risk of making some enemies too, or a careless noble neglecting the education of his fosterlings. It was a risky choice to do.

(Victarus, you can copy it elsewhere if you find it useful, I'm only trying to help everyone to learn a bit more about medieval society)

...I think those are the advisor slots in Crusader Kings. mrgreen

Actually, a big deal during during the Middle Ages is if the king can appoint and/or veto bishops or not. This becomes a bigger deal in Germany once the Emperor title is gained since, you know, the pope is all involved then.

You know more than me. You can change anything of what I said to either be more realistic, or easier to understand for the guilders.
I know you will make it better either way.

...suck up. mrgreen

Map update! Took out the rivers for now since a big chunk of them still aren't done and it looks weird. Also added something to represent the lack of control over the eastern frontier as well as the Magyars just over the border. (I can't wait to move that thing inward... mrgreen )

...grr... I WANNA PLAY!!!

I know I'm supposed to be all impartial and everything and it's really hard to do that when I have a stake in the game, but I really want to take control of a character right now. I don't know how I could simultaneously control a full-on character as well as take control of others without abusing my power, but I want to build a little dynasty and everything too. It's so frustrating...

I'm sure you wouldn't totally abuse your power, just be like me and plan on being self destructive. Know your character is probably not going to have a happy ending, and then you wont abuse your power haha

we would love to have you join us my friend!
